The vibe at The Orchid
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
This is such a unique property because of the orchids and the lava tube. This place was definitely one of my favorite camping spots on the Big Island and in Puna particularly. There were many spots to choose to camp, all were wonderful. It's so nice that George and his crew put up a rain shelter for when the weather gets bad. I had a blast exploring the orchid greenhouses and learning about George's farm. He is honestly one of the sweetest and kindest people I have met, and a wonderful host. The available kitchen is a huge plus, I wish I could have stayed the next night because George invited us to the wood fired pizza party they were having! I could really tell that George has fostered a warm and inviting living space for the workers there and I didn't want to leave! Thank you so much George and I can't wait to come back and stay.
This beautiful fairytale garden of Eden exceeded our already high expectations. We slept comfortably under a lilikoi vine, got to know the friendly and hospitable cohabitants, enjoyed the use of a fun communal kitchen area, and soaked in the surrounding gorgeous flowers and greenery.
George and his crew were great hosts, from tourist info, best eating spots around, local tips, farm home grown goodies, learning about orchids, etc. Our 6 & 8 year old kids also loved this place and were very sad to go, even after being there 6 days!! Nice kitchen area, lounge & ping pong table. Right now you get the chance to admire the orange glow from the lava reflecting on the sky all night long. I would check for availability to stay there again before traveling to Hilo area
