Junipers Reservoir RV Resort was created approximately 30 years ago.  The RV resort sits at the end of a one mile gravel driveway, on the edge of a juniper forest overlooking the 200 acre Junipers Reservoir and its surrounding meadows. A large lawn and cedar buildings sit at the center of the oval shaped RV park, with the generously sized camping sites angled along the outside edge to provide the best views.  The resort boasts free fishing in the reservoir for trout, hiking and biking trails, rock-hounding, bird watching, wildlife viewing, horseshoes, and volleyball.  The view from the open air pavilion is spectacular!Learn more about this land:Located in the heart of a 5,000 acre cattle ranch. The recreation opportunities in the Alturas CA area are endless, fishing, hiking biking, hunting, boating and OHV. The camping site has nearly 3 acres with a view of the town of Alturas and is a great place to kick back and enjoy the atmosphere of fresh air and juniper trees. There are flat usable campsites around the property and one portion of the property is fenced for horses (bring your own water trough). The property is approximately 3 minutes from downtown Alturas with restaurants and stores. The sleepy town is a perfect place to hang out and relax at the big park in town behind the VFW Hall on Main Street, have refreshments at the two bars in town or try your luck at the Desert Rose Casino. The Wildlife Refuge has a self driving tour where you can see all kinds of birds and wildlife. Take a drive outside town to the "Ranches" to see deer, antelope, eagles and various waterfowl! Alturas is a high desert area with wonderful views of the Warner Mountains and has an enchanting feel to it. Temperatures in the summer rarely get over 100 degrees, mostly low 90's, and in the fall the cool nights make for great sleeping. Pop over Cedar Pass to Cedarville which is about 20 minutes away to check out the newly designated "Dark Sky" area. Come up and hang out in this very cool and special place, you will not want to leave!!  The town of Alturas is also in the coveted X hunting zones, X3a, X3b and X2, for those of you who like to hunt. Two sites have full hook ups and the small trailer site on the above pad (see trailer picture) has electric only.  During the winter, the pump house is turned off and drained due to freezing temperatures and the risk of blowing a pipe, so campers must bring their own water during November through March.  Please ask if there are changes in these dates for the water hook ups.

You will stay on the grounds of the beautiful Historic Crane Ranch, originally established in 1869. There are 325 acres to explore, including wetlands, willow forests, hay fields, creek and peat bogs. Wildlife such as deer, bear, beaver, porcupine, skunk, raccoon, fox, coyote, cougar and squirrels have all been seen on the property. And a rattlesnake was seen 18 years ago. And there are many feathered friends; it’s a bird watchers paradise. There will be a variety of primitive camp sites in addition to the existing two sites close to the headquarters that have 20 amp power via extension cord. Fresh clean water is available from several faucets around the headquarters. Most campsites are sized to allow for group camping which makes this a perfect stop for adventure bikers touring the Oregon Outback or Burners to and from Black Rock City. There is a rustic but clean open air bathroom with flush toilet and a hot shower that is available to all guests in addition to a blue portapotty. Also a community gazebo that encloses a room with netting to keep mosquitos at bay. No outside fires are permitted at the campsites, however there is a community fire ring for a warming fire, pending local fire restrictions. Located just 6 miles south of Lakeview, Oregon, our slice of paradise is only 145 miles (2.5 hours) from Black Rock City and 8 miles from the California border. This is an active ranch environment so at times there could be haying operations going on during the summer. The ranch borders rural Highway 395 and even though it’s usually pretty quiet and the camping is away from the highway, you can still hear it at times. The wetland environment supports so many species, but it also supports mosquitos during the spring and early summer. Be prepared for mosquitos at all sites especially when camping in the willow forest during spring and early summer. One pet is welcome at all sites and are required to be on leash around the headquarters. However, there is ample space for your pet to run off leash. It is one of the darkest places in America. 25 miles from both the Nevada and California borders, this location is a great relay point for Burning Man or other music festivals. Formerly known as Base Camp RV Resort, this charming park is owned by Martin and Gina Picke', who have a rich history in both aviation and hospitality. Martin, originally from Auckland, New Zealand, developed a passion for flying before moving to Southern California for college. There, he met Gina, who ran her own architectural drafting business and managed the dog training department at the local Humane Society. Together, they dreamed of escaping the fast-paced city life and immersing themselves in the tranquility of a small-town atmosphere. Their journey into the RV lifestyle began when they traveled across various states in the western U.S., which ignited their desire to own an RV park. In 2015, they purchased a small motel with a few RV spaces in Merrill, naming it the Wild Goose Lodge Motel. After six years of hard work, they sought a new opportunity and discovered Base Camp RV Resort in Lakeview. Martin's familiarity with the area, stemming from motorcycle rides with friends, made this location particularly appealing. We usually stay at the big state parks, but we were tired of being 10 feet away from our neighbors. This site was a breath of fresh air. It was spotless when we arrived. No trash, no leftover ash in the pit, just pristine woods. For the price, you get way more privacy and a much better view than any crowded campground.

You'll notice immediately that the light pollution is minimal, so the stargazing will be absolutely top-tier from your tent door. The ground is level enough in several spots that finding a flat pitch for a tent or a small rig won't be a struggle at all. You're going to love the way the morning mist sits over the land before the sun burns it off. It’s the kind of place where you’ll actually hear the wind in the trees instead of highway traffic. If you're looking for a spot that feels 'deep' in nature but is still manageable to get to, this is going to be your go-to weekend escape

I’ve stayed at a lot of Hipcamps, and this one is special. Total silence except for the wind and the birds. The host has done a great job of keeping the site feeling wild and 'off-grid' while still making it easy to find. I brought my dog and he loved having the space to explore. If you’re looking to actually get away from people and just sit by a fire in peace, this is the spot. I'm honestly hesitant to leave a review because I want to keep this place a secret for my next solo trip!

The ranch was easy to find and easy to access. All utilities were in great condition with no troubles. The host, another camper, and related friends were warm, welcoming, generous, and so much fun! Clear sunny mornings, quiet starry nights, and an alpaca and a donkey for company, it’s the perfect launch pad from which to work or explore. We’ll be back and bring more apples for the donkey.

I found this place to be perfectly delightful! Rob has done an outstanding job to make it welcoming and convenient. This shower house is wonderful, the place is clean and orderly and it has a nice cat. This is a fine tent or camper van park. It is close to highway, but the traffic was infrequent so the noise did not bother me. Rob was responsive and attentive: overall an outstanding Hipcamp experience.
