You will stay on the grounds of the beautiful Historic Crane Ranch, originally established in 1869. There are 325 acres to explore, including wetlands, willow forests, hay fields, creek and peat bogs. Wildlife such as deer, bear, beaver, porcupine, skunk, raccoon, fox, coyote, cougar and squirrels have all been seen on the property. And a rattlesnake was seen 18 years ago. And there are many feathered friends; it’s a bird watchers paradise. There will be a variety of primitive camp sites in addition to the existing two sites close to the headquarters that have 20 amp power via extension cord. Fresh clean water is available from several faucets around the headquarters. Most campsites are sized to allow for group camping which makes this a perfect stop for adventure bikers touring the Oregon Outback or Burners to and from Black Rock City. There is a rustic but clean open air bathroom with flush toilet and a hot shower that is available to all guests in addition to a blue portapotty. Also a community gazebo that encloses a room with netting to keep mosquitos at bay. No outside fires are permitted at the campsites, however there is a community fire ring for a warming fire, pending local fire restrictions. Located just 6 miles south of Lakeview, Oregon, our slice of paradise is only 145 miles (2.5 hours) from Black Rock City and 8 miles from the California border. This is an active ranch environment so at times there could be haying operations going on during the summer. The ranch borders rural Highway 395 and even though it’s usually pretty quiet and the camping is away from the highway, you can still hear it at times. The wetland environment supports so many species, but it also supports mosquitos during the spring and early summer. Be prepared for mosquitos at all sites especially when camping in the willow forest during spring and early summer. One pet is welcome at all sites and are required to be on leash around the headquarters. However, there is ample space for your pet to run off leash. This is a large open area campsite with grass and small trees and awesome views of the mountains, willow forests and valley. Easy to drive into and to pull through. Close enough for a 20 amp service via an extension cord (at this time) but farther from the house and amenities. There is little shade at this time. Dogs are ok but must be picked up after and be restrained when in camp. Lots of place to take the dog off leash around the property.

Garden View site is a beautiful site closest to the house, community fire pit, open air bathroom and common areas. The trees are young and the grass is maintained. The site has a view of the mountains, valley and a sliver of the lake view. There is a picnic table as well. Shade is limited. People like this site for the convenient access to amenities. There is a 20 amp service via extension cord at this time.

Well Shaded is a beautiful site close to the amenities. The site is shaded by fir, cherry, weeping willow and cottonwood trees. It’s a great site for camper vans. It is closer to the highway and the headquarters house, but is surprisingly private. There is a picnic table and it’s close to some of the antique equipment. Great place for pets in the summer.

A GEM of a campground!

I found this place to be perfectly delightful! Rob has done an outstanding job to make it welcoming and convenient. This shower house is wonderful, the place is clean and orderly and it has a nice cat. This is a fine tent or camper van park. It is close to highway, but the traffic was infrequent so the noise did not bother me. Rob was responsive and attentive: overall an outstanding Hipcamp experience.

We had a wonderful stay at GLO! The area was clean and peaceful, and the facilities were well maintained. Everything we needed was easily accessible. Our host was kind, welcoming, and quick to respond—truly accommodating in every way. Their hospitality made our experience even more enjoyable.

I absolutely loved camping on Robert's ranch. Hands down the best hip camp experience I've had! Robert is a very warm, welcoming, fun, kind, deep and all around awesome hospitable guy. The accommodations are great, ranch is very peaceful even has wifi and Robert hosts nightly happy hours. I highly recommend!

The host was very nice and accommodating and the site was beautiful, the dogs enjoyed the open space and being able to be of leash in the area we were camping in. We just picked the wrong time because the mosquitoes were insane! I’d avoid June unless your are prepared for the mosquitoes, they are supposed to go away in July so I’m sure it would be much better any other time than June. There was a screened in place to get away from them, but just getting the camper set up and things from the car was crazy, I got dozens of mosquito bites even through my pants.

Excellent host and beautiful, private campsite. Flat with a picnic table, power, and water. Clean functional bathroom. Working wifi. About 8 miles into town if you forgot anything. Felt safe as a solo female camper. Will absolutely be back.

The BEST Hipcamp We’ve Ever Had!

I cannot stress this enough. Robert’s property and hosting gave us the best Hipcamp experience we’ve ever had. Insanely easy to find and the land is pure magic. Just beautiful and unique at every turn. But the best part was Robert himself. He’s truly a salt of the earth kind of man. He greeted us the moment we arrived, offered us an amazing beer after hours of driving, and we sat down like old friends to chat. And man does he have travel stories that made us eager to get back on the road for adventures after we’d had our share of peace and rest. He also invited us for a cup of coffee in the morning, giving us more time to chat and to play with his two kittens on the property. We’ll forever remember his kindness and the beauty we experienced on his land. We highly recommend more than one day stay because our quick passing through didn’t feel like enough. Stop, enjoy the sunset, and sit with Robert for a chat. He reminded us that’s what Hipcamp is all about and we tend to agree. We will absolutely be back!

Robert was a very accommodating and friendly host! The public area and the outdoor shower were such nice perks. Expect some wildlife to greet you throughout the night but nothing too scary!

We really enjoyed our stay on this beautiful private campsite! We stopped on our way back from the Sunstone collection area. We could have easily stayed longer. What a lovely, scenic property. Water and electric are available, plus WiFi. The host Robert went above and beyond, helping us with anything we needed. Our golden retriever loved it too…We felt lucky to have found this place. We will be back!

I don't usually leave reviews, but feel compelled to as we had such a great experience here. Tranquil and scenic, birds and deer and Rob was very friendly and accomodating. I'm grateful that he offers to share his little piece of heaven. He has a plethora of amenities. Thanks Rob
