SAMS TOWN is a one-of-a-kind, rustic hangout and pit stop put together by Samuel Hagen, an artist and landscape photographer. He used all sorts of reclaimed materials and rescued nostalgic artifacts that give it a unique vibe, celebrating the good ol' days and a desire to reignite community spirit. Right on Old Route 66, in Erick, OK, this spot mixes up some classic Americana feels with a chill roadside rest or an overnight stay. If you're on the road and want a stop that's anything but ordinary, this is it!

Lone Mound Ranch is an idyllic, high plains, year round, working cattle ranch with a varied terrain that provides amazing 30+ mile views from atop the 1/4 mile long mesa to hiking the 3/4 mile long draw that cuts through the rolling hills. We have RV sites with 110 outlets for $10, 30 amp for $30 and 50 amp for $50 up by the highway or campsites available from groves of elm and evergreens to higher, dramatic elevations with inspiring, expansive views. You may want to visit our on-site ranch store for all cuts of our grass-fed beef and more! Cabins and remote camping sites include campfire rings for grilling and outdoor pets are welcome. If traveling with your horses, pens are available along with miles of unpaved, remote, county roads to explore the varied landscapes. You can expect to encounter, both on the ranch and off, white tail, mule deer, turkey, hogs, coyotes, quail, dove, road runners and friendly locals always ready to stop and chat. We love meeting people and welcome new friends to join us doing all things ranch related, from feeding cattle and horses to improving infrastructure. Whether you're looking for souvenirs or wish to really experience the heart of Lone Mound Ranch we offer grass-fed beef by the lb, free range chicken eggs by the dozen, pastured goat milk, cheese, butter and ice cream & in season a variety of organic veggies to smother in butter for the grill! All organic and non-gmo. We also have a local soap maker that uses our goat milk to produce artisan soaps available for sale. We invite you to come as a guest and return as a friends.

Definitely keeping this place in mind for a future stay. If you’re looking to stay in this area, I’d absolutely recommend it. Lana is a super attentive host, the bunkhouse is a true cozy gem with everything you need, and the land is beautiful.

Lana was an exceptional host, and the bunkhouse was cozy and comfortable. I was greeted by horses when I arrived and woke up to a gorgeous sunrise. I'm sad I couldn't stay longer as this place has so much to offer! Tip: follow the written directions on how to get there, not the coordinates given by Hipcamp. I highly recommend this stay!

Sam’s Town and Sam himself are the epitome of what Hipcamp should be about. People who open their hearts to others and share their vision of what America is about. I came and stayed over Thanksgiving and it was exactly what I needed…. to disconnect, slow down and remember what is really important in this life. Sam I wish you all the best. You are truly inspiring!! Keep up the good fight and thank you again for all your hospitality. All the little touches mean so much and the care package for my puppy just warmed my heart. I can’t say enough good things. I hope to be back soon!

Sam is a wonderfully accommodating host. A few yellow jackets had slipped into where we were originally going to stay and kept landing on me. As someone who is deadly allergic, I was not comfortable staying there. We contacted Sam and he was very apologetic, offering to reimburse us completely if we needed to find somewhere else to stay, or move us to a different cabin in his camp. We took him up on the latter option. Since where we were moving from cost more money than where we ended up (the Writers Cabin), he reimbursed us the difference in cost. He got the cabin ready for us, and lit us a fire in the fire pit outside the cabin that we enjoyed relaxing by.

The directions were clear. We met Sam in the morning at Main St Cafe. He was great! The place is very special. Sam has a vision and it’s unfolding. Be nice if the dust and cobwebs were wiped off the surfaces you want to put your things on but it is a lovely vibe. We stayed in the Homestead Cabin. The smell of earth and wood was wonderful and impressive to see his creativity.

Weekend Trip to Sams Town
This was truly a unique stay and I recommend it, especially if you like to get to know the local vibe. Sam is a great host and will do his best to accommodate you if you should happen to need anything. The basics are all there though, and while it’s certainly not a 5-star hotel, it’s *definitely* an upgrade from tent camping! Sam is a real character, a visionary artist with a wealth of knowledge about the town of Erick’s history, as well as where to find good fishing holes! Highly recommend!

It was a unique place. A sweet spot on Route 66.
I wasn't able to spend the night there as our communication devices weren't working properly and my host wasn't there when I arrived. He refunded my money. Wish I could have met him in person!

The little rustic cabin we stayed in was super cute! We arrived late in the night and had no issues finding it in the dark. Huge plus we were able to have a campfire! The sky was filled with stars which made the night even more magical. Woke up to ice outside and saw the beautiful view for the first time. Our dog liked sniffing around the barn and the hay stacks.

Weekend Trip to Sams Town
Such a fun spot! Sam had a fire going in the schoolhouse before we arrived so it was very cozy, and he showed us around a bit when we arrived. It’s a unique space with lots of little bits of personal history tucked throughout. The bed was very comfortable and we had everything we needed. We had some trouble getting the water going in the morning, but that didn’t really get in our way and Sam was on his way to work on it shortly after we let him know. We hit the road pretty quickly after we got up since we had a long day of driving ahead. He was gracious and welcoming and keeps a lovely place.
