Veteran-owned and proudly American, our simple campground is located right in the town of South Heart, ND. We offer 12 nightly sites on less than one acre, providing a safe, affordable, no-frills place to park just minutes from Dickinson and Theodore Roosevelt National Park. We don’t operate for profit; our $30 and $40 nightly rates are intentionally low to give fellow veterans and travelers a break. We’re not a resort, so there’s no shower house, laundry, or Wi-Fi. What we do offer is full hookups, an on-site RV technician, nearby golf, a bar within walking distance, and DoorDash and Walmart delivery to your site. Back-in sites #1–8 have 20- and 50-amp service. If your rig requires 30 amps, adapters cost about $12–$13 at Menards, seven miles east. Pull-through sites #9–12 have 20-, 30-, and 50-amp service. The frost-free spigots may require a push and slight clockwise turn to start the water. By reserving a site and entering the premises of American RV Park, all guests, visitors, and invitees ("Guests") expressly agree to the terms of this Release of Liability and Indemnification Agreement. 1. Acknowledgment & Assumption of Risk: Guests acknowledge that staying at an RV park involves inherent risks, including but not limited to risks from natural elements, severe North Dakota weather events, trees, wildlife, uneven terrain, campfires, utility connections, power surges, water or sewer service interruptions, and the actions of other guests. Guests voluntarily elect to enter the premises and assume any and all risks of property damage, personal injury, illness, or death. 2. Release of Ordinary Negligence: To the maximum extent permitted under North Dakota law, Guests hereby waive, release, and forever discharge American RV Park (including its owners, management, employees, and affiliates) from any and all liability, claims, demands, or causes of action for personal injury, death, property damage, loss, or theft resulting from the ordinary negligence of the park or its staff. 3. Indemnification: Guests agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless American RV Park from any and all claims, costs, expenses, damages, or attorney fees arising out of or resulting from the Guest's own actions, the actions of their minors/invitees, or their stay at the park.

Easy access. Nice big pull through site. Sites nice and wide as well as long so neighbors are not too close. Quiet. Full hookups but no other amenities. We stayed there for three nights. Easy drive to Medora and Dickinson and up to the north unit of the National Park. Should have scheduled a longer stay, so many things to see and do in the area.

This is a very nice and quiet spot for our four night stay. It was a perfect base camp to run into Dickinson to see our son, go to Big Sticks games, and visit some local eateries. We spent a day in TR National Park and visited the new Presidential Library (highly recommended- advance tickets required). The weather ranged from 100 degrees when we got there to 40 degrees in the morning two days later. We had some rain and wind and our host was nice enough to leave a note checking in to make sure everything was ok. There is a friendly resident cat that unfortunately our dog didn’t love. But it was no problem. She just stayed away. We arrived in the dark, but the directions were good and the site is well marked (with directions). Perfect for a one night stop over or extended stay if you are self contained (the Dickinson Community center is really nice and has showers 😁).

Easy Access, very friendly and responsive host, plenty of AC power, and aside from the occasional train (which I didn’t hear because my HVAC units were running) very peaceful! I enjoyed walking down to the “I Don’t Know Bar” for dinner & a drink as was recommended.

Great small park! Veteran owned and cared for. You know it's a labor of love as soon as you drive in. Everything was thought of for our one night stay. We were 30 Amp and they even left us the converter so we could more easily plug into electric. I would highly recommend this park for an overnight stay.

This is a no frills campground with full hookups and pull through sites. Price was very reasonable. We stopped for a couple of nights to visit TRNP and found this place very adequate since we were only interested in a place to park. Would stay here again. We camped in a motorhome pulling.

Great spot to camp for the night. No frills, but had all the FHU utilities and everything we needed for a comfortable, safe, clean and quiet experience, all at a great price. Dickinson was just 15 minutes down the road for laundry, Walmart, restaurants and tons of shopping. Thank you to the owner! And, THANK YOU for your service!!

This park lives up to the legend of Theodore Roosevelt and I would highly recommend this park it has a vast diversity in both geographical anomalies and animal species m. As a bonus the Theodore Roosevelt Library is located there. A must see is the praise dog towns within the park, and be on the look out for bison and wild horses.

Loved this park! There is a public rest stop that is technically within the park grounds. Bison wander all over the parking lot. We saw the wild horses several times and did the most lovely hike. We will absolutely go back, easily one of of our favorites and definitely underrated!

Beautiful park. Great campground, but I had trouble sleeping knowing the bison were nearby (they weren't in the actual campground during our stay, but we could hear them at night). I would love to go back and stay in a camper van or an RV rather than sleeping in just a tent.

Cottonwood Campground

25 years ago I remember buffalo running through the camp ground at night and spook me in my sleep, only to wake up to the site of buffalo drinking from across the river. Wild buffalo, wild horses and just an awaking assortment of wild. Great park!
