Warren Ferry Landing

Wish I could say we loved it. Lots of potential but was not well maintained. Inside hadn’t been swept table wasn’t clean and there were tons of stink bugs inside. Including under the mat on one of the cots. And the screen in the screen door is as broken so we couldn’t leave the actual door open so other bugs didn’t get in. Also the lights didn’t work. Not sure if it was a function of the solar panels but there were lots of wires and converters that I wasn’t about to mess with. The river was nice but there rowdy college kids tent camping in the adjacent section kept us up for a good portion of the night.

An amazing campsite along the James River, very private and well appointed with great fire pit, picnic table, fire wood if needed, and port-potty. Dogs loved the river and beautiful sunrise. Train across the river a few times each day/night which we considered a plus. Lots of wildlife to hear at night.... cows, owls and surprisingly coyotes!!!! Close proximity to great hiking, vineyards, and breweries. We will be back.

The site was spectacular. We booked the full site (cabin + tent) and it was very spacious and beautiful. River access was straightforward, though via a short but steep hill. The only downside was the morning trains, as others have mentioned. Both toilet facilities were fine, but the port-a-potty was better. The cabin lighting didn’t work, which wasn’t an issue for our group since we were all tent camping anyway, but something to be aware of if you were in need of it. JJ was very responsive to requests around arrival and departure time.

Excellent site! Well kept and clean. If you like staying next to water, this is the place! Large river front site with more room than you can imagine. We would stay here again in a heartbeat if we are coming back to this area.

We loved camping on JJ's land! Our dog loved chasing all the butterflies in the grass, we enjoyed boating and swimming on the James, and the accommodations were just what we needed.

I enjoyed the privacy of not having other campers around. There were 10 of us all together from toddlers to adults. We did the cabin and tent site combo. We set up 5 tents and were able to spread them out in various areas so everyone had their own space. We did not sleep in the cabin but used it for our food storage area. Access to the river was not difficult like other reviews stated. There was no address to punch into our GPS, but instead we had coordinates which took us right to it. The only negative I can say about this place is there is a train that goes by on the opposite side of the river several times a day and night. However half of my adult kids and my grandkids slept right through it. I am a very light sleeper and was not fortunate enough to sleep through it. During the day, the kids enjoyed hearing the train and ”chooing” along with it. I greatly enjoyed having my early morning coffee and just watching the river as the kids and grandkids slept in. We all had a good time fishing, swimming, tubing, and just hanging out by the fire pit.

The site was beautiful, many large trees, and a wide open field, all right by the river. Access to the river was simple, great spot. Our dogs had plenty of space to be off leash and enjoy themselves. It isn't very isolated as the river is commonly used for canoeing, fishing, boating and floating. We enjoyed some swimming, but the current is strong.

This was a beautiful cabin right on the James River. The cabin had no electricity and very little cell signal which made for a perfect weekend away. It was very peaceful and has a covered porch that made the perfect place to relax especially with evening rain storms.

This was our second time staying here, and it just keeps getting better. We’ve already decided to make it an annual trip! From floating and tubing down the river to roasting hot dogs and s’mores by the fire, every moment felt like a true getaway. The kids loved having their own space in the cabin and tent while we relaxed in hammocks under the stars. Peaceful, fun, and full of great memories—this place is truly special. We can’t wait to come back!

This place was perfect. Just the two of us and the dog. It was exactly what we were looking for - secluded, river front. There’s a ton of room on the lot to spread out and enjoy nature, soak up some sun, hitting some catfish. Host was very responsive and helpful. We definitely plan to return!

The campground is lacking access to the river. There is no way to currently do any fishing. What looks like what may have once been a ramp is now covered in 8-10 inches of dirt and mud. The Porta John was disgusting. A previous guest had put there trash bag in the john. This is not a campground to go if it rains. Had to leave the 2nd day after heavy rain and mud everywhere. Paid for three nights of fire wood and camping that never got used. Locked gate was wide open when I arrived. I locked per directions from the host. First night a couple came in on a side by side. Left the gate open. I don’t think the host has any idea what goes on here.

We really enjoyed spending a few nights at the Warren Ferry Cabin and tent sites. Everything was as described and as others have stated, it had great views and access to the James River. This is a great spot if you want to do some canoeing or kayaking.

Peaceful and beautiful!

So peaceful! This land has a true “Park-like setting” with a river flowing by. Great fire pit! Really enjoyed our kayak trip from Howardsville to the boat ramp next door… the water level was perfect and the wind (and the sun)was at our backs so with that and the good moving current, it only took about 2.5 hours and we barely paddled the whole way. It was dreamy! I love being able to end your float at your campsite and relax after a day on the river. There were even a few baby rapids! We saw river otters and eagles and turtles. It would have been nice if the hot shower that was advertised had been working but we would definitely come back regardless.

Loved our time at Warren Ferry Landing. We wanted to camp, but stay out of the cold at night. The cabin did the trick! Couldn’t ask for a more beautiful location with plenty of space to play for our kiddos. We hope to return again soon.

What an amazing spot! Between the hunting cabin, the river views, the ample space and trees, the privacy and the fire deck, our stay was like heaven on earth. It was easy to find thanks to great directions. And the site is exactly as detailed. Thanks for sharing your land with us and we hope to be back in the future!

My family/friends and I loved staying at JJ’s camping grounds! The instructions made it very clear and easy to get inside the gate. There is a lot of room to set up our tents and it was close to the river with very easy access. We did have a tree fall in front of the gate so we couldn't get out but JJ was very helpful and moved the tree very quickly after contacting him. Overall we had an amazing stay and will definitely be coming back! ☺️

JJ’s property is simply beautiful! We had a great time relaxing and plenty of room for our group of 10. There was able firewood provided and we enjoyed the kayaking. Hope to return in the summer for some floating.

Fantastic place, feels very remote while not being too far out there. Very clean wide open space with great hammocl hanging spots. Beautiful ride in on a motorcycle. Careful on the road in warren ferry has some small wondy bits right before the camp. No issues what so ever. J.J. had split wood ready to go too which was awesome and worth the extra 8 at 40 degrees at night! Appreciate it! Easy river access too, clear water, probly great for swimming a bit and cooling off during summer. A++++ and then some.

We rented the cabin and tent combo option to avoid others camping in the same area. The area itself it very large and private. The cabin definitely needs some TLC, it’s very soft on the steps and in some of the boards in the floor. Wouldn’t stay in there myself due to safety concerns. Our party all had tents so it was fine. Outhouse was fine, couldn’t figure out how to use the lights however, but a lantern works. Thankful the host has firewood available for purchase, and check in was easy. Overall would stay here again.

Scenic site on the James River.

Access was easy thru the gate. Would recommend some clearing of the ground under the gate to make it a bit easier to open and close. The host, JJ, was good to work with on the booking. Would recommend a cover on the site of the firewood that is not under the cabin. The access to the river is bit tricky when the area has had some rain. The site has a nice view of the river. If possible it would be nice to have one access point to the river graded and maybe covered with gravel to make it easier to launch kayaks, or canoes.
