Loved my stay on site 7! Quiet and private, like the owner described :) just keep driving till you reach the hay field! Will stopped by to welcome me and the dogs and to make sure all was welll. Love the opportunity to split some free firewood! Would definitely stay again.

This is such an amazing place pitch your tents and relax! We drove by Will as we were coming in and he led us to two different sites that we could choose from- we chose the top of the hill that had an epic sunset view and was completely secluded. He brought us a fire ring and showed us a free pile of firewood. He was so laid-back and generous, we had a great time and would love to stay here again if we were ever needing a place to stay for the night.

Mixed feelings. Would not recommend to female solo campers. I did not feel safe. Spotty cell service on the property even though the main road was close. Communication was timely, until i got to property, then silence. No clearly marked camping spaces. In fact no evidence of recent activity/ fire pits. I slept in my car with my dog. (She alerted at 3am) I left my tent up and closed it completely, only to see in the am a new set of tire tracks and my outer tent zipper unzipped. The whole vibe was just....off.

I know itās in the middle of a town, but once youāre in the field it truly doesnāt feel that way! We love to let our dogs run when we camp and it was hard to find a place closer to Richmond rather than going toward Harrisonburg which is what we normally do. An hour from Richmond and we had exactly what we needed: space! The field is really beautiful and the way the sun sets was magical. We had a large group and we were able to spread out and feel totally at peace. When you first drive in youāre like āis this right?ā Which is probably what any negative reviews talks about, but the field opens up and itās beautiful!! We had an amazing time and would absolutely come back! Especially to try the brewery and barbecue that everyone talks about!

We love Willās hayfields Hipcamp
We did our version of primitive tent camping here in the open space of the hayfield. We loved the privacy you cannot get in any campground and the price is much more fair than any primitive site near Shenandoah National Park that we could find this week. If you love trains, youāll enjoy the occasional freight trains that pass right behind the hayfield.
Our dog Cooper had so much fun exploring. We had 3 deer sightings and lots of birds singing. And the breeze and wildflowers! Will is an excellent host and a groovy camp guest with treats for our boy!

This is the 4th time staying at Just Old Hay Field. Will is a great host and responds quickly to messages and he is attentive to any needs you may have. We love being away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The sites in the back of the property provide the seclusion we are looking for with the convenience of being close to town. Right across the street is Patch Brewing and this weekend they had a beer festival with numerous local breweries and live music and food trucks. Donāt forget Bar B Que exchange is close by to satisfy all of your bar b que needs or check out the Gordonsville Ice House for great food, especially the fried chicken.

I had an amazing time camping on willās land! He is a great host, he helped us get our first fire starter, made sure we found our site, and made sure we were set! He let us ride a four wheeler on the land, which is beyond nice of him! All in all he was a great host!

Umm false advertisement, this is a junkyard, abandoned cars everywhere and a old torn down house, i did not see any cows :( if you like the spooky feeling that someoneās gonna kidnap you then this is the place for you! but for me i much rather sleep in a safer environment

Great spot for privacy near city
We stayed on the top of the hill overlooking both sides of the fields. It was quiet & private. We enjoyed seeing deer, foxes, & groundhogs. I would highly recommend, Gordonsville has really preserved the historical feel of the town.

Will's place was great to stay. Weather was going to be bad at Shenendoah and we wanted to camp close to Montpelier so this worked out great. We booked around 6PM the night we needed to stay and got an immediate response. Will showed us where to park and we had a peaceful stay.

We chose this listing because it checked off all of our boxes for a weekend getawayā¦ within two hours from home, cell service, budget friendly and sparsely populated. Weāre in a class C, with set up for boondocking.
Upon arrival, we were riding around, looking for a spot to park. Will came out to meet us and led us to a really great spot! He also went above and beyond, by bringing us some firewood. Most of what we saw on our way in was really big (as was noted in the listing,) and we didnāt have a way to cut or split it. We figured weād scope out our spot, then find somewhere to buy some. So, we really appreciated Willās kindness in supplying us with wood we could handle!
We enjoyed the few trains that went through, it was not at all disturbing for us. Our time there was quiet & peaceful, a nice spot to unplug. Even saw a deer the first morning! Lots of birds for birdwatching. It was a wonderful fall weekend!

It Really is Just a Hay Field

Will is so accommodating and communicates promptly. The fields are wide open with lots of choices. The location is right on the edge of town so there is easy access to antique shops and you are in walking distance to a Food Lion, several restaurants and Patch Brewing. This was our second time staying and I am sure we will be back again.

Secluded, but unclear how far into the field we had to go for the site. I had to access it through the back of an apartment complex, so it didn't seem legit. I was asked to check in at the metal camper and passed approximately four metal campers that looked rundown and overgrown, so I wasn't sure who I was supposed to contact.

This is a great place to camp right on the edge of town. Our dogs loved it because they got to run free off leash. The town has some great restaurants and there is even a beer garden very close. We would definitely stay here again

Perfect spot for a disconnect

Great spot for camping. True to its name, just a field, but freshly mowed site made for easy pull in and set up. Walking distance to town and craft brewery if needed, but still felt off on its own for a quiet night under the stars in front of a campfire. The host, Will, stopped by to chat as we were getting set up. He had kindly provided firewood and had gone out the night before our arrival to mow the site to get it ready for us. Highly recommend and will visit again.
