Really liked the tree house and felt welcome to the farm. Greeted by a kind woman and cute pup— they let me know where I could park, find water hose, let me know that if I needed anything I should feel free to ask.
Sadly, after arrival I realized there wasn’t truly access to actual hiking on the property nor was it right on the AT
You need to get in your car for that and the creek was dry. I can understand about the creek, there hadn’t been rain, but the whole reason I picked this spot was because I thought (from reading the description) I’d have access to both of these things right outside of my door
The national park is not far at all, but you do have to get in your car to get there
I did drive down to a sweet town about 30 mins away and had an adventure on the James River, which was beautiful
Talking to the other folks who were camping, they were laughing with me about how the creek wasn’t creekin’.. and they went for a long walk down the road. So, we all kind of felt the same way about that being a little misrepresented.
It was nice having a toilet, but I found it hard to work the second day
And while trying to pull up the handle, it broke
I’m so sad and sorry about that ☹️
Most places I camp seem to have compostable toilets. It might be harder to build, but much easier to use.
