Howdy yall, if you are looking for a place to enjoy the eclipse I would check the hext volunteer fire department in hext Texas. Unfortunately I am at my maximum number for the eclipse. If you have stayed with us previously please reach out before you book and I'll get you a discount code! I have added an Instagram account and I have a video of the drive down to the campsite and a video of the campsite itself. Gvs_resort is the handle. We welcome you to come enjoy the seclusion and dark sky on a working cattle/exotic hunting ranch in the Texas Hill Country. My great great grandfather established this ranch in the late 1870's and our family still lives here today. We are located in Real county just north of Leakey, Texas on US Highway 83. Our campsites are on the head waters of the West prong of the Frio River. Our Grapevine Springs have continuous flow the year round. You will enjoy the gurgling creek, hiking, swimming, solitude, sunrises and sunsets, big and bright stars in the night sky. We have tall hills and hardwood trees, Spanish oaks, Escarpment Cherry, Black walnut, live oaks and other oaks. We have wild animals; white tail deer, turkey, hogs, exotics, seasonally songbirds and butterflies on the ranch. We are close to Lost Maples State Nature Area and Garner State Park.

This site is about 1/2 mile off the road on top of a hill underneath a Mott of live oak trees. The road to the campsite is a ranch road but there is no elevation change along the way. The site has great views of the sunset and views 360°. There are lots of trees for shade and hammock camping.

This campsite is in the big Flat before you get to grapevine mill. It will be under some live oak trees in the big Flat.

This campsite is down the hill closer to camp springs. It is under some trees and already has a fire pit set up. There are a few ways to get down to the site depending on how rough you want to go.

Please note that this site books out the entire property! Your group will have access to all of the sites and there will be no other campers on property during your stay. Great for events, family reunions, birthdays, and more. FAQ Are day campers included in the total guest count, or does it only apply to overnight guests? All campers, whether they are staying overnight or not, must be included in the reservation. Can additional guests be added after the initial booking? Yes, you can modify your trip to add more guests through the Hipcamp app, but you cannot exceed the maximum capacity. Please let me know how many vehicles and RVs you are bringing in advance so we know that we can accommodate everything. If you don't have a high clearance vehicle, we will arrange to get you to the sites. Please note that class A & C coaches can be accommodated on site but not down at the main site. The maximum height is 18' to go down to the main site. I have had a 28' airstream make it down and back to the site. This is another site up on rooster road a little further south of campsite # 1. This will primarily be for the eclipse.

Spanish oak campsite. Is just north of the main campsite under a beautiful Spanish oak tree.

Another campsite for the eclipse. This one is on the way to the main campsite but far enough away for some seclusion. A deer feeder is close so you might get to see some animal activities. The campsite is right under some big sycamores tucked into the north facing hill. Close enough to the swimming hole to walk.

The beauty of this hill country land is amazing. Quiet and peaceful. My family and I enjoyed the clear water of the swimming hole, it was cool but perfect when the sun was over us. Wilson is very nice, helpful and fun guy! He was a great guide showing us all around the property and giving us options as to our campsite. There’s plenty of space for small or large groups. We got the opportunity to enjoy the less rough off-road trails and saw some beautiful views. If you’re lucky enough like we were, you’ll get to enjoy all the adventures this property has to offer.

Our second time staying here and we are already talking about when we are going back. We were 16 people including 4 kids and were able to spread out over the campsite so we all had our own space and weren't on top of each other. Th kids had a blast running around and swimming in the swimming hole. Plus the sky was clear so we got a great view of the milky way. Since our first visit, Wilson has been improving the site and added a roof over the kitchen area which added some nice shade for sitting around the picnic table and hanging out. Wilson was great and extremely responsive to all our questions. He is very knowledgeable about the property, it's history and it's great to hear him speak about it.

Rugged Hill Country Experience

We had a fantastic and peaceful time. The property is huge, and a high clearance vehicle is a must. Four wheel drive is recommended for exploring. This is a true rugged experience and it's absolutely beautiful here. We've stayed at a few similar style ranches in the region, but this is our new favorite.

Best Country Hill Camping In Texas

Absolutely incredible experience! From the moment I arrived, I couldn't stop smiling as I took in the breathtaking beauty of the land. The seclusion was simply amazing. With 3,300 acres all to myself, it felt like a dream. This is hands down the best country hill ranch in Texas – a true hidden gem. The owner was fantastic, personally showing me the way to our camp and then letting me enjoy every moment to the fullest. The swimming was amazing and fresh for this summer heat. I can't wait to make this a regular getaway. Highly recommend!

Seventh trip!

I think this was our seventh trip to Grapevine Springs and just like all the times before it did not disappoint. We explored some of the far corners of the property and found a pond that our daughter named “Frog Pond”. I love that we keep finding new can amazing examples of nature on this beautiful land.

Over the last few years, I’ve hosted an annual camping birthday party for my wife with friends and family. This year was our first at this location and everyone is hooked!! The property is completely secluded, spacious and absolutely beautiful. The host Wilson was an absolute pleasure to work with and completely responsive anytime I had a question. We even invited him to hang out with us Saturday night and everyone loved him. This is now going to be our spot in the coming years as long as Wilson has it available to us.

Rooster road #3

Red rooster 3 was one of the remote dry camping sites at this ranch. Wilson at the ranch guided us to the site on a dirt road in his off road vehicle. The site was nestled in oak trees with views of rolling hills. The area is covered with small rocks with fossilized shells which was cool. If you like privacy, you will like this site. There is another more conventional camp area on the ranch that we didn’t have time to visit, but the photos looked nice. Thanks Wilson!

Eclipse camping

Tent camping for the 2024 eclipse at the Wilkinson Ranch in the rugged and beautiful Texas Hill Country was pretty-much a perfect experience for us. The host, Wilson and his staff went out of their way to accommodate us, and they made us feel not only welcome, but as if we were their very special guests. That takes work, because this ranch is expansive, and there were a lot of guests, many of whom were much less needy than we, I’m sure! The staff was a group of helpful, hard-working young men and women, and they - more than anything – made our camping trip outstanding. Each campsite was spacious and private, so at dark they built wonderful bonfires, where we could gather to enjoy the spectacle and meet other campers, should we so desire. The eclipse was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of event, and this was one of the ways they made it very special. Plus, I believe they had a lot of wood that they needed to burn, so it was a win for everyone. The ranch is beautiful, and in April there were deep purple and bright yellow wildflowers everywhere. We were camped a short walk from a refreshing spring-fed swimming hole, and climbing the rugged hills provided breathtaking views.

Oh my gosh - just can't say enough great things about Wilson as a host and Grapevine Springs as a property. A.Mazing. Wilson absolutely nails it on communication from start to finish and has a knack for making guests feel at home, ensuring they have everything they need throughout their visit while also not being intrusive in any way. And the property is simply stunning. The best combination of remote and private with the family/group-friendly ability to drive in with your gear and guests that I have ever experienced. Dark skies, plenty of shade, cell service on 2-bar hill if you need it but also just enough of a hike to get there to strongly encourage being disconnected and present. Please leave no trace - Grapevine Springs and Wilson's hospitality are not to be missed.

Big Flat Campsite #2

We got a unique camping spot due to the eclipse & it was nothing short of amazing! It was probably the best camping trip of my life. All the staff are so caring & kind. Everyone on the ranch makes sure you have what you need & you’re well cared for. The owner was super friendly. So glad that we found this place & got to meet some awesome people! Arrowhead Campsite

Our stay at Wilkinson Ranch was perfect for the eclipse!! It definitely exceeded our expectations. The drive is a bit rocky and takes about 20-30 minutes from the highway, but we did not need to use 4x4. Arrowhead campsite was nicely secluded and was close to the spring. It doesn’t have a lot of water running, but offers a beautiful esthetic. 2 Bar hill is a nice 10-15 minute walk to get a bar or two of service if needed. There was also a community fire that was fun to join and do a little socializing. We are used to mountain camping in California and this little spot reminded us of there. The entire experience was amazing. If you want the feel of true off-grid camping, this is your place! Thank you again for sharing your beautiful land!
