Cascade Caverns® stands out as a unique natural wonder, rich in history and teeming with wildlife. Discovered by the Lipan Apache people in the 1700s, the cave is home to artifacts that remain visible today, offering a glimpse into its storied past. In the 1840s, local youth from Kendall County rediscovered the cave, leaving their mark by carving initials into the stalactites of the first chamber. By the 1870s, Cascade Caverns® became Texas's first “private-touring” cave, and it officially opened to the public in 1932. Spanning from the Ice Age to the present, Cascade Caverns® continues to be a living marvel. Visitors can explore this enchanting cave and encounter a variety of wildlife, including iconic residents such as salamanders, cave shrimp (amphipods), leopard frogs, and tricolor bats.
