My husband and I were hoping for a peaceful, private camping trip, but our stay fell well short of those expectations.
Finding our campsite and figuring out where to park was confusing. There was no map showing how to reach the site, and parking wasn’t clearly marked. After parking the host walked us to our campsite from where we parked. This was around 9pm.
However, she returned around 10 p.m. on her 4 wheeler, after we were already in our tent and in bed, to ask us to sign additional rules and paperwork. These rules had not been provided in advance on Hipcamp, where we had already paid and reviewed the posted rules. In my opinion, it is inappropriate to ask us to agree to additional rules after payment and booking/ arrival. Beyond that, that she approached our tent after arrival when we expected to be left in relative privacy was unpleasant and uncomfortable.
After this, around 10:30 p.m., she went to the campsite directly across the stream and began yelling, “Bear! Bear!” We eventually realized she was calling her dog. She then spoke loudly with those campers for about 20 minutes. The campsites face each other rather than being staggered, so it was louder and less peaceful than we expected.
Another unpleasant surprise was that trains passed roughly every hour from about 9:45 p.m. until at least 12:30 a.m., sounding their horns repeatedly. These were the loudest train horns I’ve ever heard, and they made sleeping very difficult.
Overall, the noise, lack of regard for privacy and trying to get us to sign for additional rules not known when paying for the site made this an experience we would not sign up for again. experience. We would not return.
