Camp is on 50 acres with a pink marked trail to Red Bank Creek on the western border and back up through a hemlock forest along south border. A small stream runs through the property and forms a rocky delta in Red Bank Creek. All camp sites are on the eastern border and close to the main road to access property. Hike, enjoy the sound of the stream tickling through property, stargaze, or rest, watch nature's critters, read or just relax in a hammock. No hunting on property but fishing permitted along "river" aka Red Bank Creek. Please keep fires in firepit and noise levels low. Set up to be most natural, minimal mowing, and sites meant to be more private. We let you know if you have others on property. No running water or flush toilets on sites unless in your self-contained camper. A compost loo provided. Lots of kindling can be easily gathered for a fire. Consider ordering some ahead of time if it has been raining though. There is a tarp and a wheelbarrow to collect logs and kindling and move to your site.

Outdoor Adventurer Camp Site

RV/tent site · Sleeps 16 · Vehicles under 18 ft
Open gate by sliding bar, please close behind you and lock. Your site is the second tent site. Drive in, turn left and park at your own camp.  There is a firepit. A blue tarp may cover firewood. It can also be used to drag firewood. My cohost can usually sell you  eggs as well as firewood if you want some without gathering.  Enjoy the shade of this maple grove in summer. There is portable tent loo.  You are only three miles to town and the beginning of 50 mile long, Red Bank Creek bike trail or waterway, which both go to the Allegheny River.  Bring your own bikes and canoes, rafts, or kayaks.  We have maps for rail trail, just ask me or my cohost. You can start trails across from Giant Eagle in Brookville and take kayak or tube out 6 miles down in Summerville at Moore Road or further down in New Bethlehem. Tubing or kayaking is nice on Red Bank Creek, put in off White Street (across from large stone Methodist Church) take out in Summerville for a 6 mile paddle. May be too shallow July/August for boats but a rubber raft is very relaxing. You can hike the pink loop on the largest portion of the property through forest and stream down to Red Bank Creek. It takes about an hour or two to do loop if you just hike and don't hang out at "river". Just follow the pink dots to river and go out on delta from our stream into river to turn continue to follow pink arrow  on other side of our property's stream. The pink dot trail will bring you back onto inner road at Turtle Rock, near campsites. If you just want to lay in the hammock and read or sit in the shade you can do that too. Wildlife watching is always great. Use any dead downed wood for fire.  camp stoves recommended. Fires must be contained in firebox. If you want to bring a hatchet or bow saw or axe for splitting your wood that would be good. We have tools if you don't, just ask Judy my cohost. Do not leave out in rain or in woods. Please have pets and selves wear blaze orange during hunting season even though we do not say hunting is allowed.

RV/tent site · Sleeps 20 · Vehicles under 34 ft
Open gate and drive directly into your tent site on the right, a short distance in on our private drive. This site can be for one or a group. may prefer to car camp here, that is fine.  Most open site but great view of stars at night. Four camp sites are all on eastern portion of property and all sites have privacy from others on this upper edge of 50+ acres. Breathe in fresh air, get out of blank city air. There is an octagon picnic table, stone firepit, and a composting loo.  As you walk from east to west on property it gets shadier and cooler. Please hike my pink trail. Plan an hour and a half. It will take you down hill on a wide trail to Red Bank Creek then left along river edge then up through a hemlock forest back to top of trail near campsites.  You can hike, bike or kayak the Red Bank Creek trails to the Allegheny River beginning in Brookville for 6 to 50 miles on the Red Bank Creek rail trails. We are in "The Wilds" of Pa. with many state parks/forest and national forests as well. Have children check out Punxsutawney groundhog and rail trail there. They can also gather plentiful kindling from trees self pruning. RBC aka "river" kids can lead following pink dots. Kids will enjoy 1/2 way mark to play in creek, fish, or catch crayfish, then follow pink dots to right and up thru hemlock forest. We will let you know if any other guests are on the property.  If you want to come earlier or come later in day, ask us. We try to be flexible. Go directly to your site. Just give us an ETA so we can check in with you and make sure you are all set. Please follow neighbor's posted signs and stay on our property. Always open and close gate behind you and relock.  Four sites total on property, Rustic Cabin; Outdoor Adventurer Tent Site,  Meadow and Boondock at Sandy Ledges. Thanks. There is a hammock along the stream that flows down our property to RBC.

Boondock at Sandstone Ledges

Vehicle site · Sleeps 10 · Vehicles under 40 ft
This site is for a self contained vehicle to stop for a stay off Rt. 80. It is the quietest and most private of the sites. It is the site farthest from main road into the Camp. If you want to take a hike follow the pink trail to "river" aka Red Bank Creek, then south along creek bank and back up through hemlock forest. Good way to run a dog before loading into vehicle again.  We are 3 miles from the beginning of the Red Bank Creek bike and canoe trail which is 50 miles long. Open the bar gate and drive to your site.  Lock it behind you. You will pass two camp sites but do not see other campers once in your site. Private with good sky view of stars at night.   Stay longer and enjoy wildlife, kayak, bike, or hike or x-country ski on Red Bank Creek trail 50 miles long to the Allegheny River. Come back to your home on wheels at night.  Refuel and use dump site in town before you get on highway (by Denny's). Restock groceries at Mike's Supermarket (nice deli and baked goods) or Giant Eagle on way out of town.  Enjoy elbow room and quiet and full sky view at night.  We will let you know if any other guests are staying somewhere else on the property.    Hope you have time to take an hour or so to do the pink loop trail around the property. It goes down to Red Bank Creek aka the "river" cross the little stream on property to your left above river, then continue up the pink dot trail through the hemlock forest, you will come out onto inner road near your site.  At this site we do not provide water or hookups.  How many persons your self contained vehicle contains is included for $20 a night.

Rustic Cabin

Earth house · Sleeps 5
Rustic cabin is camping with 4 walls and door.  It has a loft for sleeping. It is on 50 acres.  Great for outdoors people who want to bicycle, hike, snowshoe, and kayak days on Red Bank Creek trails or National Forest.. The acreage is beautiful and quite private. We will let you know if anyone else is on the property during your stay.  Dogs love it too.  The cabin is dark and conducive to " early to bed and early to rise" active explorers. Heat water on wood stove or propane single burner. The heat from woodstove goes up to loft area.  In summer we cook over outdoor firepit to keep additional heat from going upstairs. Avoid traipsing to the toilet outside in middle of night, compost loo is downstairs. No flush to wake anyone, just cover with sawdust provided. The Red Bank trails begin in Brookville 3 miles away and go 50 miles to the Allegheny River. Or do our 1 hour pink marked hike loop on the property. Be aware for winter camping, floor of cabin is concrete and often damp, therefore sleep up in loft.  This site is best for a couple or small family with older children. Open loft to concrete below not good for toddlers and young ones. Small firepit next to picnic table outside along a stream which may be gushing or a trickle depending on weather and time of year. The downstairs of cabin is cool on hottest day due to sandstone walls and in winter naturally somewhat warmer than outside.  I have a cohost who is not intrusive who helps greet you when I am not available.  She sells fresh eggs if you'd like some. The duck eggs are best. An axe, bow saw, and a single log splitter available for your use. Spring next to cabin did not pass bacterial testing. If used boil, only for washing. Potable water provided in thermos. Sheets and towels not provided.

Mimi Shed

Cabin · Sleeps 2
This site is perfect for one person or couple. No drippy tent to fold up if you get some precipitation. Inside there is a futon which is quite comfortable. The shed sits of a platform. There is a battery powered lamp inside.  I would use a headlamp to read by at night as it isn't a bright lamp. There is a pot to heat water in, a small stove, a plastic poncho if raining, aluminum foil, and a solar shower bag. I envisioned this mostly as a winter overnight stay. There is a propane heater for winter. Liable to heat up a lot in summer but great for a rainy day.  You are on eastern end of a 50 acre property. When I pulled up I saw a fawn and later a family of turkey.  Sorry no hunting permitted. Hike the inner road west (your driveway), then follow pink dots to Red Bank Creek and back through hemlock forest. It is about 1- 1/2 hour hike.  It will be beautiful in fall from tiny deck. I have a solo stove that you can cook over. May use campfire ring at Meadow if no guests are there camping. Please cover solo stove from rain and do not have fire go higher than rim.
