Gray and Katie Turner established Baken Creek Farm in 2018 and have since worked to develop the 30-acre property into a thriving farm with sheep, chickens, bees, pigs, and vegetable gardens. We’re excited to open our property to HipCampers! Learn more about this land: We operate an active, organically-managed permaculture farm in Perry County, PA that includes sheep, chickens, pigs, honeybees, and a vegetable garden.  Hipcamp proceeds will go towards the purchase of trees to continue to grow our farm vision! We plant as many trees as we can during the spring and fall--generally a few hundred each season. Perry County is rural with minimal light pollution.  At dusk, you can spot bats darting through the air. You may hear the hoot of an owl or the cry of a fox or perhaps nothing more than the wisp of the wind through the leaves. As day breaks, roosters will greet the sunrise, fog may have formed over the pond and the rolling Appalachian hills will come alive with the chatter of songbirds, woodpeckers, or squirrels chirping at their new-found forest friends.  Our pond is home to largemouth bass, some weighing in about 5-pounds and measuring two feet casting ripples across the surface as if to taunt the curious fishing folk.  For the lighthearted fishing folk, there are pan fish dancing along the shorelines nipping at bugs on the water's surface. At its depth, the pond reaches about 8 feet with gentle sloping to the outer edges and includes a shallow wading pool area for young children. Farm activities are centralized around the barn and market garden area providing privacy to our campsites. A short walk from the campsite will allow you to experience the farm atmosphere, especially Thursday, Friday, and Saturday during our open farm store hours or special on-farm events. We do move our livestock around the farm regularly. The sheep or chickens may be in close proximity to the campsites during your stay with 2-3 visits per day from the farmers to check on animals and perform necessary farm tasks (morning and evening). We manage our farm organically and regeneratively--there are no overburdening 'farm smells' here. Baken Creek Farm seeks a symbiotic relationship between food production and the protection of our natural environment is of utmost importance.  Pond View site (Site #1) overlooks our half-acre pond and has a gorgeous view of Blue Mountain and the Audubon Society's Waggoners Gap Hawk Watch (<10 minutes drive). This site is located closer to the road than our Oak Hill site, so there is some road noise, although it's minimal at night. This location is also about 250 feet from the nearest neighbor (with some trees in between), so we ask that you keep the volume down after 10 PM. The ground is not perfectly level, but suitable for tents. You have the option of pitching your tent among the trees or in the open field. The campsite is a short walk up the hill, just beyond the pond.  We have a fire pit with one bundle of firewood included per night at your site. Additional firewood is available for purchase or dead limbs/sticks may be gathered.  Tours are available for an additional fee. Farm products (i.e. chicken, lamb, eggs, honey, maple syrup, locally-roasted coffee, veggies, herbs) can be purchased anytime and change seasonally. Our farm is located about 20 minutes north of Carlisle, which provides great dining options or New Bloomfield/Newport for local farm-to-table fare. We are surrounded by farmland and forests, with three state parks just a short drive away (Little Buffalo, Colonel Dennings, and Fowlers Hollow). Perry County has several historical sites (including many covered bridges), coffee shops and restaurants, and farm stands with plenty of gorgeous views and photo opportunities. We'd be happy to give you pointers! Check out our website, Facebook (@BakenCreekFarm), and Instagram (@Baken_Creek_Farm)!

I loved camping on Katie’s farm. The site was secluded and beautiful, with a nice view of the pond. Our hosts helped us plan our day hiking at Colonel Dennings and even let us pet the pigs and see the baby lambs.

Katie & Gray were awesome hosts. We stayed just for an overnight on our way cross country, but it would be a good spot to linger. Hauling our gear up & down the hill from the parking spot to tent site was helped by Gray & their UTV, which was very much appreciated.

We all had a great time during this farm camping experience! The site was beautiful, shaded, secluded, and even had a composting toilet. My kids loved visiting the farm animals and our hosts were incredibly friendly, informative, and helpful.

Very nice campsite, a nice private grove on a beautiful farm. We brought our dog and she had a great time too. We bought eggs, asparagus, and whoopie pies from the store which were all delicious.

Staying at Katie's farm was, as anticipated, refreshing. Seeing the sheep graze in the pastures and hearing the hens and chicks cluck and tweet was enriching to me. I loved visiting the farm store and must say that I finished the crushed tomatoes I bought before I arrived home later that day!

Beautiful and Comfortable
Perfect camping experience! Looking down on the sheep in the misty meadow in the morning from the top of the hill was one of the most picturesque sights I’ve ever seen. The big tree let us have a great time at the fire ring even when it was drizzling by providing excellent cover. There was a picnic table, fire ring (raised up on bricks for better circulation- nice touch!), all the firewood we needed, nice soft grass to set up the tents on, and a well maintained port-a-potty a two minute walk down the hill by the farmhouse. Very private and no buildings in sight. Definitely get the eggs and the picnic boxes, and the farm tour. Best Hipcamp experience to date!

Kind, Welcoming Farm
Katie and her husband were beyond flexible and accomodating to our family. We car camp with 2 young kids and they made sure we had a shaded and level spot (not their usual 2 sites). They were so kind and patient to show us the farm market and their sheep!! There is some road noise at the site, we still had a peaceful stay.

Fun, friendly farm campout getaway!
Katie and Gray were wonderful hosts! They gave us a detailed tour of their beautiful farm and enthusiastically opened up their farm store off hours so our girls (8 and 5) could poke around at the farm produce and hand-made local products. We also got to spend time with their sheep and chickens! We stayed at Site 2, which is really private and has excellent views, and backs up to a massive pasture, whose lovely bovine residents visited us both nights. Lots of space all around, and the site includes a fire pit and picnic table. Be sure to pack long pants and boots for all!

I knew camping at Baken Creek Farm would be a cool experience but I was not anticipating how rejuvenating and healing it would be! The space is FULL of nature, from ponds to trails to fields and woods, not to mention the animals and food grown on the property. There is something to appreciate at every turn. Katie is an amazing host, so personable, friendly and accommodating. She made me feel right at home on the farm, showed me around the property, shared stories and the history of the area, and made my stay so comfortable. I also had the opportunity to do some shopping at the farm store, and even picked wild berries, garden berries, and a gorgeous bouquet of the flowers grown on the farm. I’m already excited to return with some friends! I would recommend Baken Creek Farm to anyone looking for a unique, rejuvenating and educational camping getaway!

I really enjoyed my stay a Baken Creek Farm. I would suggest taking a vacation day this week so you can see the baby lambs. This is a definite must do Hip Camp. I lucked out and camped when chickens are available for sale and it was DELICIOUS!!! Site was perfect for my hammock and also has two nice matted tent areas. My site had a huge fire ring two nice benches and a picnic table. You are good with a folding wagon to haul your gear but I would recommend getting the add on for them to haul it to your site. Katie and Grey were great host. They have an awesome home and I am glad they are sharing what they are doing with Regenerative agriculture. This place makes you want to buy a small farm. Bring your fishing rod. I caught five bass!
