Loved tent camping on Hippie Hill! Be sure to grab a bite to eat before or after your Medicine Park/Wichitas adventures! LOVE THEM! First time camping although I’ve visited their cafe previously. I endlessly recommend the stay! Hosts and cafe staff are so kind. I definitely recommend camping as high up the hill as you’re able to go. Further from the road and more into nature. You’re likely to see deer and elk, and maybe even hear some coyotes. They have camper-style bathroom facilities which is very convenient, and even allow you to use the cafe facilities during operating hours. I hope to stay many more times in the future!! Our hosts were the most professional, kind people you can ever hope to deal with. They were accommodating and the combination of lodging, food, drink (and I’m not a big drinker but their drinks were killer!) and service are second to none. We already plan to go back.

Our weekend getaway

The walled tents are nice. Make sure you get one with an extension cord for electricity. I prefer more functionality than glam, so maybe two nightstands instead of one and a display rack of some kind. I get the women like all the decorative decor, that’s why my wife showed me their site and planned the weekend. Bring a fan for air circulation, you would roast if you didn’t, cool nights with a fan is perfect. But I wouldn’t advise staying in the tent past 11, go explore medicine park for the day, come back as the sun is dropping and enjoy your tent. The toilet facilities are functional, but I prefer to use the restroom in the restaurant during open hours. The shower will get your blood pumping in the morning or cool you off after a hot day. It is an outdoor shower and no hot water, but it was bearable even for a cool morning shower to start the day. The host and staff are great, we didn’t have much interaction because we had big adventures from the morning until nightfall. But they seemed nice and if there was anything they could help you with they would. Overall, we had a great time and we can’t wait to plan another trip over. As long as they continue to rent the tents for this price then most people can afford a weekend stay. If prices went up then probably not. A 5,000 btu window unit would do wonders for the stay and would encourage me to return in hot summer months, it is glamping after all 😉. But I recommend trying it out and enjoying a couple of days stay.

Peaceful, Private Getaway Near MP

We had an amazing stay at Darrell and Kelli’s yurt! The location was perfect! Super close to Medicine Park, yet still felt completely secluded and peaceful. We had the entire site to ourselves, which made it even more special. The on-site amenities were easy to access and thoughtfully set up, and we loved exploring the hiking trail right on the property. Darrell and Kelli also gave us great recommendations for things to do in the area, which made planning effortless. Most importantly, we felt safe and comfortable the entire time. Highly recommend for a relaxing getaway!

It's a gorgeous location and the Shiloh tent was cute, cozy, and roomy. I really appreciated that we didn't have to haul pillows and blankets because the site comes with a real bed fully dressed. It was also handy that it's so close to Medicine Park. Our hosts were friendly and informative. It's nice that they're right there at the restaurant in case we had any questions. Campfires have always been the centerpiece to our camping trips and I was kinda bummed that there weren't individual fire pits for each location like we're accustomed to, but I'd never been to that area of Oklahoma and now I can see why. There was a fire ban during our trip but we saw that the communal fire pit was very close by and it looked comfortable and welcoming. Even though it's right off the highway, it didn't bother us a bit and there's plenty of wilderness all around to enjoy. The views are stunning.

It was so fun to camp here!!! On one of the nights or for lunch you HAVE to eat at their restaurant! It’s delicious and everyone is so friendly. The views are amazing and you can even go hike up their land for some more great views. The bathrooms are super clean and they even provide a few toiletries if you forget yours. You also need to get breakfast from their restaurant!! The coffee and drinks are amazing too. They have games and lots of areas to hang out. I completely recommend this campsite! We didn’t get to stay in the glamping tents but they looked amazing! We even got to see a small female Oklahoma brown tarantula!!

Loved hippie hill! We got to choose our tent site when we got there and got a nice spot at the top of the hill! Beautiful views and lovely people down at the cafe! Only advice is to be prepared to trek up a bit of a hill with all your gear to your tent spot!

Kelli and Darrel’s place is a cool spot not too far off the highway and close to some really cool things to check out. It’s important to note, first, that they are super kind people who have a ton of heart and knowledge of the nearby town and natural areas. While having a killer breakfast at the cafe, they filled me in on some great hikes not far from camp with a passion that can only come from someone who really loves the place. Though their tent sites are hike-in (very short up the hill) I was in a rooftop tent and they were able to figure a good parking spot out that was secluded enough from the road while still very close to the bathrooms and cafe. I’ll definitely be back through.

Great experience! Kelli is an amazing host! Great atmosphere! I definitely suggest sitting in the tabernacle watching the stars. When I stayed they had live music, pyo, sound bath and an ice bath.

Stayed in Selah and my girlfriend and I slept great! Food was awesome as well! I'm not a fan of coffee but I will be getting the drip coffee every time I go! Overall excellent place to stay!

Honest review. Darrel was amazing. Wears a lot of hats and makes sure we are taken care of. He suggested to use the restaurant bathroom from 30 min before open to 30 minutes after close. During the night there are camping toilets in private rooms behind the restaurant. Not my favorite but they have long open hours so it really is for just in the middle of the night use. We decided not to cook but there were grills available outside. Had a few common seating areas for watching sunsets and sunrises. Common campfire that Darrel started and provided wood for, himself. We ate all our meals at the cafe. They are very considerate of food allergies preferences no sugar or lots of sugar if needed. Full bar, the chocolate drop martini was delish. Coffee was awesome. Had almond and oatmilk low sugar. Healthy choices from quinoa, black bean burgers house cut fries, latino favorites like hueve rancheros, teas, yerba mate, beer. Turmeric lattes. Very fresh tasting and yummy. They had real egg or imitation eggs or “cheggs” also had real chicken or crushed chickpeas in the quesadillas. Lots of choices. Servers were prompt and kind. The room was cute in decor, bed was comfortable and I have lower sacrum problems and it didn’t hurt to sleep on it. I was hoping there would be a tent heater but there was not one so we used the blankets that were very comfy on the bed and an extra sleeping bag and was very cozy. The tents did have condensation. Thank you for the great stay

Darrell and Kelli were outstanding and welcoming hosts — attentive to needs, offering fantastic sightseeing information, and above all being friendly as all get out. Cooler weather camping is a breeze with *the* coziest diner at the bottom of the hill. Will certainly be back.

I really enjoyed my stay at Hippie Hill! I booked the Zion Tent for my first night of my stay in the Wichita Mountains. I had never been to the area and it was nice to have a stay in town to get the lay of the land before venturing into the park. The bed was super comfortable, and the tent was nice and warm and protected me from the heavy winds. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful. It is right in the center of the town and the cafe provided a delicious meal and coffee before I started out on my hike the next day. My only critique is that the guest outhouse was locked overnight, but I was able to use the cafe bathroom during business hours. There is some road noise so it’s not necessarily a secluded sort of experience. But it was nice to enjoy a soft bed after a long day of travel before camping the next 2 nights! Again the owners and the cafe were really nice. I’d definitely recommend this spot for someone who wants to enjoy Medicine Park during their trip to the Wildlife Refuge.

"Shiloh" - Wall Tent

An authentic opportunity for a stand out adventure can be discovered in Southestern Oklahoma at The Healthy Hippie Cafe within the charming town of Medicine Park! Well said that it is a full sensory experience set in the parameters of the wildlife refuge where both primitive and canvas tent dwellers can enjoy the beauty of the surrounding hills and view of Mt. Scott upon sunrise. A lovely trail ascends to a panoramic perspective of the historical towns settings. We heard coyotes calling out after sundown, the lovely fall breezes passing through the tent windows, the brilliance of the stars, and even a hooting owl passing by! We traveled here to celebrate our youngest son's 6th birthday. He enjoyed every minute of it! The hosts, Darrell and Kelli are super personable and make themselves readily available. This little piece of property is set off the main road adjacent to The Healthy Hippie Cafe. However, with the exception to the minimal passing vehicles in the earlier evening and some talented musicians that could be heard in the distance, all was brought solely to the sounds of nature alone soon after. We slept in the Shiloh tent. It was spacious and the bed was comfortable. Bathrooms are available and an outdoor shower if that suits you. We started our morning with a short hike on the property and breakfast in the Cafe. Super! The bar provides many fantastic options. GREAT coffee! REAL food! Ambiance is legit. This place is crushworthy. Thank you, Darrell & Kelli!

I really liked this place for many reasons. The location was great. Far enough from the town medicine park to get away from live music and people talking but you’re a hop skip and jump from freshly made coffee, healthy tasty breakfasts and and bag of ice to keep your cooler stocked. There a very large covered patio to protect you from heavy rains and also you can hang out inside until the storm passes through. This place is special because the customer service is always there constantly checking in with you to make sure you’re doing ok. I would also add that Darrell is a ninja when it comes to topping off your coffee. Somehow me managed to get in there undetected while I was siting in my chair and reading a book on the patio. Didn’t realize until he was long gone and back behind the bar. Darrell and Kelli are one and the same. You can definitely tell that they care and that makes all the difference in the world when choosing where to go and spend your money!

I hate writing reviews especially when they are not glowing. We booked "Zion" - Wall Tent for two nights and it was as expected but the first thing you notice as you drive up to the Cafe is the tent is very close to the busy highway directly behind the Cafe. Parking is at the Cafe and and you must walk up a very treacherous and rocky hill to your tent. We had to make a few trips with ice chests and suitcases but we survived. The toilet room was at the bottom of the hill so be careful at night and make sure you take a bright flashlight to keep from twisting an ankle. Now the reason I am writing this review is the total lack of concern the owner has for his campers. There is a stage next to the Cafe and just a few steps from the tents and he hired a Techno Music DJ and laser light show for the afternoon and evening. The music was so loud it could be heard over a mile away and neighbors complained to me as if it were mine! We had to leave our dog in the car. What campground does this? We asked several times for him to have the music turned down but he said he tried but it was out of his control. At the most there were 8 or 9 people in the area to watch but the sound system was designed for a stadium. This was so upsetting my wife and I left a day early. On a positive note the little cafe was nice and had good food but the music was so loud outside we couldn't have a conversation inside.

Camping and family fun done right

Had a blast camping on Darryl and Kelli’s land. The Healthy Hippie is right there, super convenient, and the fire pit was already stacked with wood, made life easy. If you go, hike the Fish Trail. It zigzags uphill and the view at the top of Medicine Park and the wildlife refuge is unreal. One of my favorite spots in southwest Oklahoma, hands down. Highly recommend.

We loved camping in the Selah tent! Exploring the trails near by with our toddler was the perfect way to spend the morning. & nothing beat being able to just walk down for a delicious breakfast! We loved our stay & will definitely be back again!
