Hippie Hill

The owner's are nice, but I wish I read the reviews beforehand. I think the ac cooler is a bit misleading in the info. When I messaged about it I was told it doesn't cool down the tent. The location is very pretty, but close to the street so you hear a lot of traffic. The camping toilets are kind of hard to reach from our tent at night and the outdoor shower is just a hose. The host told us the person before left the windows open during a storm and our check in was delayed because they were drying things. I didn't mind this, but when we got back visiting the refuge we realized the bed and sheets were damp. We didn't sleep well and left early, so we didn't get a chance to tell the host about the dampness in the morning. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice place. I'm just saying for me it's not worth the price. If I'm glamping I want there to be ac, light, and running toilets available all night. For the amenities available I'd rather stay at Camp Doris. I'm aware there were reasons our stay was out of the ordinary compared to others, but yeah... it just wasn't really my thing. The hosts seem like they're doing a lot to make Medicine Park a fun and vibrant community, so no shade to them. I just wanna give a realistic review on my thoughts.

The hosts were awesome, very welcoming. Gave us an awesome recommendation for a swimming spot. We purchased the firewood and he had a fire all built and ready to light when we got there, which was awesome. The bed was very comfy. We did not end up staying all night because it was too hot on the day we picked, but will likely book another visit for a cooler time.

Gorgeous

This is an amazing place! We enjoyed the view of Mt. Scott from our porch, the cute hike just behind the property and the proximity to town and the Preserve. Oh and breakfast at their cafe can't be beat! Can't wait to come back.

I arrived later into the night and departed prior to the CAFE opening so I was unable to check out the space but, from what I could see this place is pretty special. the colorful artwork and outdoor seating had me envisioning a future visit. My stay was quiet and most importantly, safe. I loved the sound of the wind chime throughtout the night. I look forward to a better planned trip to dine outdoors with a refreshing sip/meal

Poor Communication.

I chose not to complete my stay based on customer service. My reservation was promptly confirmed and I received a message from the host, confirming, asking if I had any questions, 2 days in advance of my stay. I was good, familiar with the location, seen the tents, etc. Arrival day: I arrived at the restaurant where the tents hosted and was informed the tent I reserved was being rebuilt and I was moved to a smaller tent. The other girl said “ I don’t know why Darryl just can’t take it off the website. The tent is a wall tent, expected. The tent includes a cooler that wasn’t setup, the girl had no idea how long it lasted etc and would find someone to get it.. there was absolutely NOTHING welcoming about the way I was received for this checkin, so I stated I’d like a refund. I was given a refund, less some fees that I plan to file a claim because this could have all been avoided if I were given the option to cancel Since the accommodation/tent I requested, was clearly unavailable at the time I reserved the tent.

Medicine parks best camp site

Awesome experience as always. Darrell and Kelli are great hosts and always looking to help in any way possible. The view and nature is exceptional. There is road noise some is by a road but it’s also very convenient to be so close to a road that takes you downtown or straight to the wildlife refuge. Their campsites allow you to rough it and experience a full on camp experience with the option of a fresh coffee/breakfast from their kitchen. They have lots of protection from the rain if it’s a stormy night.

Beautiful

That was the best camping experience I’ve ever had! The area was so scenic, our tent was super cute and the bed was really comfy. All the extra stuff like the “tower” and the cozy space outdoors made everything so much better too. And the cafe food/menu is amazing. Also, every person that worked there was so nice. I just loved the whole experience.

Loved tent camping on Hippie Hill! Be sure to grab a bite to eat before or after your Medicine Park/Wichitas adventures! LOVE THEM! First time camping although I’ve visited their cafe previously. I endlessly recommend the stay! Hosts and cafe staff are so kind. I definitely recommend camping as high up the hill as you’re able to go. Further from the road and more into nature. You’re likely to see deer and elk, and maybe even hear some coyotes. They have camper-style bathroom facilities which is very convenient, and even allow you to use the cafe facilities during operating hours. I hope to stay many more times in the future!! Our weekend getaway

The walled tents are nice. Make sure you get one with an extension cord for electricity. I prefer more functionality than glam, so maybe two nightstands instead of one and a display rack of some kind. I get the women like all the decorative decor, that’s why my wife showed me their site and planned the weekend. Bring a fan for air circulation, you would roast if you didn’t, cool nights with a fan is perfect. But I wouldn’t advise staying in the tent past 11, go explore medicine park for the day, come back as the sun is dropping and enjoy your tent. The toilet facilities are functional, but I prefer to use the restroom in the restaurant during open hours. The shower will get your blood pumping in the morning or cool you off after a hot day. It is an outdoor shower and no hot water, but it was bearable even for a cool morning shower to start the day. The host and staff are great, we didn’t have much interaction because we had big adventures from the morning until nightfall. But they seemed nice and if there was anything they could help you with they would. Overall, we had a great time and we can’t wait to plan another trip over. As long as they continue to rent the tents for this price then most people can afford a weekend stay. If prices went up then probably not. A 5,000 btu window unit would do wonders for the stay and would encourage me to return in hot summer months, it is glamping after all 😉. But I recommend trying it out and enjoying a couple of days stay.

Peaceful, Private Getaway Near MP

We had an amazing stay at Darrell and Kelli’s yurt! The location was perfect! Super close to Medicine Park, yet still felt completely secluded and peaceful. We had the entire site to ourselves, which made it even more special. The on-site amenities were easy to access and thoughtfully set up, and we loved exploring the hiking trail right on the property. Darrell and Kelli also gave us great recommendations for things to do in the area, which made planning effortless. Most importantly, we felt safe and comfortable the entire time. Highly recommend for a relaxing getaway!

Beautiful Mountain View to watch the sunset. Bed and tent were very comfortable. Food at the Healthy Hippie was amazing. Darrell & Kelli were great hosts.

It's a gorgeous location and the Shiloh tent was cute, cozy, and roomy. I really appreciated that we didn't have to haul pillows and blankets because the site comes with a real bed fully dressed. It was also handy that it's so close to Medicine Park. Our hosts were friendly and informative. It's nice that they're right there at the restaurant in case we had any questions. Campfires have always been the centerpiece to our camping trips and I was kinda bummed that there weren't individual fire pits for each location like we're accustomed to, but I'd never been to that area of Oklahoma and now I can see why. There was a fire ban during our trip but we saw that the communal fire pit was very close by and it looked comfortable and welcoming. Even though it's right off the highway, it didn't bother us a bit and there's plenty of wilderness all around to enjoy. The views are stunning.

It was so fun to camp here!!! On one of the nights or for lunch you HAVE to eat at their restaurant! It’s delicious and everyone is so friendly. The views are amazing and you can even go hike up their land for some more great views. The bathrooms are super clean and they even provide a few toiletries if you forget yours. You also need to get breakfast from their restaurant!! The coffee and drinks are amazing too. They have games and lots of areas to hang out. I completely recommend this campsite! We didn’t get to stay in the glamping tents but they looked amazing! We even got to see a small female Oklahoma brown tarantula!!

Loved hippie hill! We got to choose our tent site when we got there and got a nice spot at the top of the hill! Beautiful views and lovely people down at the cafe! Only advice is to be prepared to trek up a bit of a hill with all your gear to your tent spot!

Kelli and Darrel’s place is a cool spot not too far off the highway and close to some really cool things to check out. It’s important to note, first, that they are super kind people who have a ton of heart and knowledge of the nearby town and natural areas. While having a killer breakfast at the cafe, they filled me in on some great hikes not far from camp with a passion that can only come from someone who really loves the place. Though their tent sites are hike-in (very short up the hill) I was in a rooftop tent and they were able to figure a good parking spot out that was secluded enough from the road while still very close to the bathrooms and cafe. I’ll definitely be back through.

Great experience! Kelli is an amazing host! Great atmosphere! I definitely suggest sitting in the tabernacle watching the stars. When I stayed they had live music, pyo, sound bath and an ice bath.

Honest review. Darrel was amazing. Wears a lot of hats and makes sure we are taken care of. He suggested to use the restaurant bathroom from 30 min before open to 30 minutes after close. During the night there are camping toilets in private rooms behind the restaurant. Not my favorite but they have long open hours so it really is for just in the middle of the night use. We decided not to cook but there were grills available outside. Had a few common seating areas for watching sunsets and sunrises. Common campfire that Darrel started and provided wood for, himself. We ate all our meals at the cafe. They are very considerate of food allergies preferences no sugar or lots of sugar if needed. Full bar, the chocolate drop martini was delish. Coffee was awesome. Had almond and oatmilk low sugar. Healthy choices from quinoa, black bean burgers house cut fries, latino favorites like hueve rancheros, teas, yerba mate, beer. Turmeric lattes. Very fresh tasting and yummy. They had real egg or imitation eggs or “cheggs” also had real chicken or crushed chickpeas in the quesadillas. Lots of choices. Servers were prompt and kind. The room was cute in decor, bed was comfortable and I have lower sacrum problems and it didn’t hurt to sleep on it. I was hoping there would be a tent heater but there was not one so we used the blankets that were very comfy on the bed and an extra sleeping bag and was very cozy. The tents did have condensation. Darrell and Kelli were outstanding and welcoming hosts — attentive to needs, offering fantastic sightseeing information, and above all being friendly as all get out. Cooler weather camping is a breeze with *the* coziest diner at the bottom of the hill. Will certainly be back.

I really enjoyed my stay at Hippie Hill! I booked the Zion Tent for my first night of my stay in the Wichita Mountains. I had never been to the area and it was nice to have a stay in town to get the lay of the land before venturing into the park. The bed was super comfortable, and the tent was nice and warm and protected me from the heavy winds. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful. It is right in the center of the town and the cafe provided a delicious meal and coffee before I started out on my hike the next day. My only critique is that the guest outhouse was locked overnight, but I was able to use the cafe bathroom during business hours. There is some road noise so it’s not necessarily a secluded sort of experience. But it was nice to enjoy a soft bed after a long day of travel before camping the next 2 nights! Again the owners and the cafe were really nice. I’d definitely recommend this spot for someone who wants to enjoy Medicine Park during their trip to the Wildlife Refuge.
