The Viking longhall has been 9 years in the making by a group of semi serious Viking enthusiasts: the result is a 60 foot long building that has 18, 8,x4' sleeping berths. Set apart from the main open area it also boasts 2 meeting rooms and a kitchen. The campsite is a very peaceful place. Some go as far as to say a healing place! We are proud of what we have achieved and now want people to come out and enjoy it also. The field is close enough to the Appalachian highway (state route 32) for convenience, but far enough not to be bothered by it. The area is steeped in Native American culture. In fact, the world famous Serpent Mound is but 8 miles away, with many other Adena culture sites within easy driving distance. It's also in the heart of the Amish community. The area is known for its natural beauty with many hiking trails and canoeing opportunities. The area is awash in beauty and history from the ancient mound culture to the amish culture. The area has many hiking trails some of which are part of the buckeye trail and range in length from an easy 1 mile loop to rugged hikes of many miles. Come out and share the land that we have loved for the last 30 years PLEASE [xxxxxxxx] WILL NO LONGER BE SUPPLYING BEDDING OR TOWELS.

Our campsite is 5 acres nestled in a small hollow of the Appalachian foothills in beautiful southwestern [xxxxxxxx] on 3 sides by a small creek is a small Viking/ fantasy village. The campsites are in secluded clearings each with space for a 4 person tent and its own fire [xxxxxxxx] are situated around the main field which contains our 60 foot longhall and large communal fire [xxxxxxxx] the longhall is a kitchen containing a 4 ring burner there is also a 5 burner gas grill if barbaqueing is your thing. Also on the site are other Viking/fantasy buildings,an 18 foot diameter yurt,a 16 foot Viking wedge tent,2 small lodges,a screened in bar and even a medieval war wagon. The recently completed shower house is a beautiful thing to behold,hot water and cedar lined The main area of the camp is ideal for just kicking back and watching the wildlife during the day and on clear nights the amazing star laden [xxxxxxxx] is plenty of space for lawn games including kube,cornhole and horseshoes. The field is close enough to the Appalachian highway ( state route 32) for convenience but far enough not to be bothered by [xxxxxxxx] area is steeped in Native American culture in fact the world famous Serpent Mound is but 8 miles away,with many other Adena culture sites within easy driving [xxxxxxxx] also in the heart of the Amish community The area is known for its natural beauty with many hiking trails and canoeing opportunities. Please be aware this is a rural area and as such you will encounter nature. We cannot be responsible for the woodland creatures you may encounter. Recently we have had people complaining because of flying squirrels, raccoons and even a wasp. We live in their environment and as such we must adapt. We are very proud and protective of the many different and varied creatures living on the 5 acres that make up the campground.

he whole field rental consists of the [xxxxxxxx] longhall,the yurt,the cottage and plenty of room for tents on the 5 acre sites. The yurt sleeps 4 comfortably two twin mattresses can be added. The cottage sleeps 2. The longhall sleeps 27, 9 upper berths with twin mattresses and 9 ground floor with [xxxxxxxx] also has a fully equipped kitchen with 4 burners an an outside barbecue grill. The field is surrounded on 3 of its side by a small creek the [xxxxxxxx] a steep hill to the [xxxxxxxx] all but early spring and mid October onwards it is surrounded by foliage, so is quite [xxxxxxxx] is parking space for about 20 cars and a further 6 at the top of the hill. Outside the longhall is a large fire pit other pits a dispersed around the field. There is also a canopied outside dining area that seats 30 near the longhall and a small tiki bar located by the creek also an axe throwing area,outhouse and shower unit. All firewood and water is provided but heating,using propane fires in the longhall, yurt, and cottage is charged at [xxxxxxxx] for cooking and shower use is included. A small quiet generator powers lights in the longhall during the day, which is candle lit during the evening [xxxxxxxx] are various solar lights around the field and the perimeter of the large fire pit is lit by tiki torches.

Please note the yurt has recently been upgraded. We have raised it on a 3’ platform and it now has wooden wall and windows. It has a semi transparent roof so the interior is very light. We have also installed a propane fire ring………photos will follow in the next week or so. For the camper that wants a little more comfort we present for your consideration our 18'-diameter yurt. It contains 2 twin beds, and a queen size memory foam mattress bed, it also boasts a wooden floor. Very romantic getaway, cozy family get together or just socialising with friends this could be just the site your looking for. PLEASE NOTE WE WILL NO LONGER BE PROVIDING BEDDING OR TOWELS. Sitting on the 5-acre Viking Longhall campground, the site contains some quite unusual unique buildings the yurt, a 16' Viking wedge tent, two small cottage buildings, a screened in bar, a medieval war wagon and the 60-foot Longhall all surrounded by a creek on three sides giving it a very private secluded feel. The area boasts many activities including hiking,canoeing,wildlife watching,star gazing,biking or touring the Adena cultural sites or shoping in the Amish stores. The yurt campsite is very spacious with its own fire ring and canopied dining [xxxxxxxx] can be done on the fire or a 5 ring grill. pots, pans, eating utensils, plates, cups, towels, many candles, lamps. In fact, probably everything you will [xxxxxxxx] as simple as packing your clothes, bedding,food and drink and heading out to your own fantasy camping experience we will even bring you coffee in the morning! Enjoy the unique experience of communal camping in a Viking Longhall. Situated on 5 acres surrounded on three sides by a picturesque creek this 60'x30' building contains 18 sleeping berths on 2 levels. This is probably one of the more unique listings you will find on Hipcamp. The Viking Longhall offers a one of a kind venue for a variety of group gatherings be it a wedding, a birthday celebration, a family re-union, a larping adventure, a gaming arena, an educational or crafting retreat, symphomium.....in fact anytime a group want a large communal gathering place. The hall features 18 8'x4' sleeping Berths , 9 berths on ground level each with a full mattress and 9 on the upper floor each with a twin mattress (4 reachable by stairs and 5 by ladder only). The upper floor has an 15'x8' meeting room with large table and bench seating for 12. Also on the upper floor a second communal area/ extra sleeping area again 15'x8'. The ground floor has a kitchen/ meal preparation area with all the kitchen utensils and supplies you may need. Cooking is done on a 4 ring burner, or outside grill, or fire pit. A large open communal area some 40'x15' with 10 tables and bench type seating for up to 40. There is also a breezeway area approximately 16'x10' leading to the large double doors. There is a wrap around porch attached to the [xxxxxxxx] campsite itself is 5 acres surrounded on 3 sides by wood covered cliffs. It is in one of the many hollows and has a very private secluded feel. The grounds contains number of other features......a large communal fire ring with ample bench seating, ideal for dancing and drumming. A small tiki bar (screened) next to the creek. There is also a large canopied dining area 30'x 8' with seating for about 40 and a small screen house for morning coffee etc. A shower house with on demand hot water, and an outhouse. The surrounding area is seeped in Native American culture with the world famous Serpent Mound being only 7 miles away and fort hill within short driving [xxxxxxxx] county contains 22 hiking trails, maps and guides for which we can supply. The area is also close to a 6 mile wide meteor impact crater so it is of interest to [xxxxxxxx] night sky can be quite amazing with little light [xxxxxxxx] are quite a few varieties of birds and plants and deer can quite often be seen grazing from the viewing platform that looks out across nearby fields. Although there is no electricity supply to the campground a 2000 watt quite generator is available which is enough to power lights and small electronics. Speaking of which there is almost no cell phone reception and no wi-fi, some find this a blessing and some an inconvenience, although a short walk will get your phone [xxxxxxxx] images of the campground and its amenities can be seen from our other listings, yurt at Viking longhall, creek side cottage and tent camp at Viking Longhall. We also have a Facebook page, Viking Longhall Campground, although we would prefer to contact us with any questions directly through Hipcamp. A variety of decorations and lighting are available at an extra charge. PLEASE NOTE…..During the winter months ( November to the end of March) we apply a surcharge for heating. This is based at cost and the amount used. The charge normally runs about $50 per one night stay. Please be informed that you will have to supply your own bedding. We can now offer the use of a DVD player and projection system, just bring your own blue ray or dvd discs and enjoy movie evenings with your friends.

We always have an incredible time at the Longhall! David is an exceptional host, and our Autumn trips here have become one of our favorite yearly traditions. It’s such a special place to gather with family and friends and I can’t recommend it enough!

The Yurt at Viking Longhall
Loved the yurt. The host was having some issues with the shower (also there was mold and like slime - okay it was gross. And the outhouse was so far from the yurt that as someone with ibs, well that sucked the middle of the night middle of the storm trek to more than the length of a football field was rough. There were 2 grills, the charcoal was provided but wet. The gas grill made a huge fireball when lit. He did warn us there were issues with it, but not that. Hubby lost some arm hair and had a slightly burnt face. The weather really messed us up on day 2, we left to get ice, charcoal and candles - because no electricity - in the morning and came back, started a fire, got the charcoal grill going, then the thunderstorm hit. A light drizzle was on the forecast, no fault at all to the host! But we were stuck in the yurt for at least half a day. We brought food for a fire or grill. So we didn’t plan ahead enough. On us, I guess. But we didn’t eat that afternoon/evening Beautiful light fixtures that didn’t work because the clear roof overheated the place so they put a tarp on? No outdoor lighting worked either. Like in the whole place. You could see the lights on the paths, but they never lit up. Honestly, the place was beautiful. If it was kept up better, I’d love to become a regular. And if they had more bathrooms and more/better showers, then i would love to take my whole family. But as is, it was alright, but we wont be going back.

The Viking Longhall
We stayed at the viking longhall and it was amazing. David was an amazing host and made sure everything was all set up and that we had everything that we needed. He came every morning amd brought us fresh hot coffee that was amazing. He was even a really good person to just sit there and have conversations with. The longhall was an awesome experience. So much to look at inside the hall and all the lighting inside was perfect and really helped set the atmosphere.

This place is amazing!!! Gorgeous, clean, one of the best hosts we have met in a long time. (If you like dnd, miniatures history and amazing stories just ask David my mind was blown and got to nerd out for a bit) We are already planning our next visit out! Oh yeah. And it’s also by serpent mound.

Our stay at the Viking Longhall was wonderful! We stayed with a small group of friends and, lucky for us, we basically had the place to ourselves for the weekend. We played in the creek and spent time around the fire. It's a really chill environment, and especially fun for a bunch of ren faire/DnD nerds like ourselves! We had the Creekside Cottage and our friends were in the Yurt. Both shelters were awesome. They provide tons of options for cooking and all the little things you might forget. My only regret is that we only had a few days! The grounds and Longhall are truly something to behold. Hearing about the history of the place made it even cooler! We can't wait to go back! Super close to Serpent Mound, also closeby are other sacred Native American sites, hiking areas and state parks, and more. Thanks, Dave, for the hospitality! Can't wait to meet Iveagh too next time!

Another wonderful getaway at the Longhall. The grounds were wonderful, even though the weather was hot. The creek made for a great spot to stay cool, and David made sure we were able to keep the inside of the longhall cool and comfortable. Another unforgettable experience for our group. We can't wait to come back!

David and Iveagh are warm, welcoming, generous hosts. Their land is remarkably grounding to experience and exploring the longhall is magical. Tent camping is very comfortable with trees for shade during the day and a babbling creek for lulling to sleep at night. The outhouse is clean, cared for and spacious. The shower is great! A lot of birds! This was our second visit and we are sure to return. This is a very special place. Pair this with a visit to Serpent Mound and you will leave transformed.

Creekside Cottage
David made us feel welcome and taken care of. I appreciated the fire already being built since we arrived close to dark. It’s clear they have taken a lot of care to create a unique space. The creek is perfect - somehow there were no mosquitos. Would definitely stay here again. We happened to be the only ones staying on the land that night so it felt very private, but I think it would still be a nice experience with multiple guests staying at the other cabins due to the landscaping making you feel “tucked”.

Incredible, David was incredibly welcoming, checked in regularly, stuck around for some chit-chat. The longhall straight up saved us when a storm came through and we could take shelter there (if no one had reserved it already). There's so many little nooks and crannies to hangout at, a creek to explore if that's your vibe. That outhouse really is great; we were met with the unfortunate timing of come in the weekend after a large party came through, but it was very well cleaned.

After studying Norse Mythology, my 4th graders had a culminating overnight at this Viking Longhall. It was exactly the experience I was hoping for! David was very accommodating and hospitable. They loved the archery, creek swing, fire pit and the ambiance of the longhouse and yurt!

We had a great stay overall. The Viking long hall was definitely a standout—such a unique and memorable feature that really sets this place apart. David and Iveagh were very kind and welcoming, and made it clear they were available if we needed anything. As experienced campers we didn’t need much assistance, but it was appreciated knowing they were there. The available hot shower and water were a great accommodation and definitely added to the comfort of the stay. The campsites are not on top of each other, but they aren’t very dispersed either. If you’re looking for a more private, spread-out experience, this may not be the best fit. Regardless, we felt nothing but welcome and accommodated. Overall, a really cool spot with a lot of character. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others looking for something a little different.

Had an absolutely beautiful stay here! We only stayed for a night which was not nearly long enough to fully appreciate the tranquility and beauty of the place. David was an amazing host, left firewood at the tent site, offered us beef stew at night and coffee in the morning, and even explained how we could build a better fire with some fire starters he left us. The tent site had enough privacy to still feel fully immersed in nature even with other campers nearby. Lots of birds and butterflies. We will definitely be back and feel like we got a full escape and recharge from the chaos of the world. Best sleep I’ve ever had.

Creekside Cottage
The cottage was beautiful and cozy and we loved the soft bedding and fluffy blankets on chilly nights. They provided a propane heater and had prepped a fire for us to light. The creek was clear and provided a serene soundscape. David was kind and helpful. He checked in with us to be sure we had everything needed, brought got coffee every morning, and gave us great advice on local hiking spots.

We had an amazing time staying at David's hand-built yurt! David is a wonderful host, making sure we had what we needed and providing helpful info while giving us our space. There's plenty to do, from axe throwing to board games to great hiking trails nearby.
