Experience a quiet, secluded, private mountain ridge with long-range views and shade from locust and wild cherry trees. Enjoy the fire pit under the stars in the evening. Conveniently located between Asheville and Waynesville, 3 miles off I-40, but it will feel like you are worlds away. We have a level 10X25 gravel pad to accommodate your RV or tent, with RV electric hookup.Bird songs and the wind rustling in the trees are the only sounds you hear atop this grassy knoll on Run Away Ridge. The entire ridge is private and yours to roam. A fire pit is at a clearing near the end of the ridge, where you can relax by fire-light under the stars. A 30 amp RV hookup and 110v receptacle are provided, and the gravel RV pad is level and measures 10X25 ft. Nearby trees are great for hammocking. Asheville is 35 minutes away, and Waynesville is 15-20 minutes. You will be 3 miles from Ingles Supermarket and tons of fast food choices, but once you are on the ridge you will feel like you’re on a private mountain. Campers at Run Away Ridge can request free day access to the 160 acre Pause Eco-Retreat (see our other property), which is ten minutes away by car. Pause has some of the most beautiful hikes and views in the county! NOTE: The 1/2 mile gravel driveway to the site is steep, so a 4WD is recommended, and mandatory if you are towing a camp trailer. Trailer size is limited to 25 ft.

Stargazing and Astronomy 101experience

Tour of the heavens led by amateur astronomer and astrophotographer Faramarz Hidaji. We will use giant astro-binoculars to view the moon, planets, nebulae, star clusters as seasonally visible. This is a one hour mini-course on basic astronomy in which you’ll learn skills you can use to identify and understand celestial phenomena objects. If the skies aren’t clear, you will be issued a refund. Please message the hosts to confirm seasonal availability of this extra.

I was not really sure what to expect but this spot is absolutely stunning - amazing views from every point you look. It truly felt like we were secluded and had so much privacy, but felt safe at the same time knowing Jill and Fara were not too far away. The hosts were very responsive and kind. It was the perfect little get away!

Runaway Ridge is a beautiful, private campsite! Our kids enjoyed exploring the area and walking along the gravel road. Beautiful views though the trees are still full this time of year. This place would be absolutely stunning once the leaves turn!

The site was smaller than I anticipated and very close to the driveway. I also got unlucky with weather (not the hosts fault) so I didn't end up staying through the weekend.

Very private and serene. Wonderful site to experience nature with privacy. Definitely pay attention to the 4 wheel drive recommendation especially if pull small camper. Totally worth the drive. When you see the gate, look to your left and the grassy area with gravel pad is there.

Beautiful, quiet, and secluded! If you are looking for the perfect getaway in the woods, this is the spot. The hosts keep it well-maintained with the grassy areas mowed (thank you!). And the gravel parking spot for our little trailer was perfect. It includes a picnic table and campfire area. The site is long and meanders into the woods so that there is a lovely amount of space. Our dog loved sniffing around on her leash and runner, and we walked down the well-maintained gravel road (easily accessible with 4wd). We were relieved that we did not encounter loose/roaming dogs, as this is has been an issue when camping in other areas.

We had a great time. Did not spend much time there due to other activities. Easy to get to, felt safe. The owner stopped by to say hello and was super friendly. It is on top of the mountain, sunsets are blocked by trees. Sunrise was excellent, but the total view of the valley below was blocked by growth - it is natural for things to grow. Stars were super bright at night, great view. About 15 minute drive to everything you might need. My only complaint is that the fire pit was towards the back away from where we set up camp. For others, this might be how they prefer it. For us, we would have rather has the fire pit closer. Definitely recommend and we will be looking into the owners other properties as well.

Very private and feels remote but only about 10 minutes from town. Super convenient to grocery store, restaurants and I-40. I didn’t meet our hosts but my travel companion did and he said they’re super helpful and friendly! Purchasing wood from the hosts made this last minute trip easy. We were hoping to catch the auroras but no luck. Great star gazing after the clouds cleared, however!

Birthday weekend in NC

Site was private. Owner was friendly. We own an EV and were looking forward to being able to use the power when we arrived, but it kept throwing the breaker, even plugged into the 110 outlet. Luckily we had enough charge to make it to Asheville. Overall the site was nice and we enjoyed our stay.

We were looking for a last minute get away to the smokies and we are so glad we came across Jill and Fara’s hipcamp site. The hosts were so friendly and responsive we instantly felt welcomed. Our site was secluded and private and had a beautiful view over a mountain range where we could watch the sunrise and sunset peacefully. For those pulling campers - we tow a 21ft camper and it felt tight on the single track private drive. It is VERY DOABLE just tight. We also were given permission to visit their other property for some hiking. We are so glad we took them up on it! With two toddlers and the crowds on a lot of the easier trails in the smokies, it was a constant stress fest. We were able to let them explore freely and hit every sensory need a child could ever want on these private trails. If you are a tent camper- this is a dream location! The trails are steep but the view is on par with many overlooks along the blue ridge parkway. You might even be blessed with a visit from the families horses. We feel so privileged that we were able to stay here and can’t thank the hosts enough!

This property was great for a short little overnight trip. I thought it would have full mountain side views & be a little more tucked away, but it still did the job! It was nice & cozy, while still being pretty spacious. The site is at the end of a one lane gravel street so there’s not much activity going by, but my dogs did freak out the few times cars went by. We had some sneaky neighbor cow visitors, but normally they shouldn’t be there & it was a fun surprise 😅

Exceeded my expectations! The property was beautiful and much bigger than it appeared in the photos. Fara stopped by to introduced himself on the first night and provided firewood. I felt very safe and enjoyed my stay, I would definitely be interested in checking out their other property as well when I’m back in the area. Thank you Jill and Fara!

Literally might be the best camping spot we’ve had… ever. Jill and Fara are amazing. We actually stayed at both their properties. Can not recommend enough. We completely changed our weekend plans to stay another night. The views, the peace, the quiet. Nothing like waking up in nature listening to all the sounds. We will be back!

Camping near Asheville

We wife, kid and I had a great time! Asheville is only 25 minutes away so it's a great place to kickback and unwind while still having a big city to explore nearby. Would recommend!

Great Pitstop for a Night

The driving directions were very clear and helpful; I drive a RWD Nissan Pathfinder and had no issue climbing the gravel driveway. I imagine during inclement weather this may have been a bit more difficult, though. The hosts were on top of their communication with me, which is always helpful. They were incredibly considerate + Cherry on top - they had built a fire stack for me to simply ignite upon arrival!

Such a sweet spot with great proximity to Asheville. The hosts were very friendly and accommodating throughout our stay. This is a great site if you are looking for views but you don’t have a vehicle with 4WD. We will definitely be back!
