Run Away Ridge
This is the second time we have stayed at this site. Once in early summer and now late fall. It is one of our favorites. We wanted to try some cooler weather camping to test out some new gear and this was the perfect spot. The leaves were mostly off the trees at the site, but the leaves on the surrounding mountains were still spectacular. I would recommend to anyone looking for views and a beautiful place to camp.

Very peaceful and relaxing spot. Had it all to myself. Felt safe too as I was camping alone with my dog. Town is close so that’s a plus. Got to see coyotes while I was driving down the mountain one morning and saw a few pileated woodpeckers among tons of other birds and wildlife. I had and amazing much needed trip. Would definitely camp here again.

We had such a a relaxing time on Jill and Fara's land. The communication was great... Directions led us right there with no problem!
The views were breathtaking with the leaves changing. We had plenty of room... We had tents. The electric was a absolute plus! We had perfect cell service! It was close the the Blue Ridge Pkwy which was beautiful during peak foliage. Feels far away but your close to grocery and gas. It was a quick drive to get to Maggie Valley. Had a great experience!!

Our stay at Jill and Fara’s land was extremely peaceful! We were able to let our dogs roam free and they had a blast. We took advantage of the fire pit and brought recliners to enjoy the view. Highly recommend if you’re looking for something outside of the city.

Overall we had a good experience. Directions to the site were great.
The views would have been great in the fall or winter when the leaves are off the trees. At the time we were there, the views were very obstructed. The site needed some maintenance and the campfire ring was too far away from the gravel campsite.
The site does feel very private and isolated, yet within about 15 minutes you can be at a grocery store or restaurant. We really enjoyed that. We ventured out and explored the town of Canton after hiking the hosts’ other property, which is really beautiful.

Loved this spot! Very quiet and secluded. Was able to relax fully for two days. I made it up the driveway in my short bus but see how it could be difficult if it were to rain/be wet. Great views. Would love to come again!

Responsive host, very nice. The space is very well maintained. Views are beautiful. The gravel path can be tough here and there for 2WD (We have a KIA Sorento) even when dry. There is no trail around but that was a nice spot to start the trails on blue ridge the next day. We liked the privacy.

What a great spot!! Absolute privacy and top of the Mountain View's. The driveway isn't too bad, but the road directly from I-40 is super steep. I found Upper Crabtree Mountain Rd, a few miles down, to be much more forgiving!!! Thanks Jill and Fara for a great stay!!

This place is wonderful. The views were stunning and the site was spotless with freshly mowed grass, solar string lights, firepit and picnic table as well as a flat spot for a trailer (we had a roof top tent). It was a long and windy road to the top of the mountain, again with stunning views. The last 1/2 mile on the private dirt/gravel road was pretty easy for the Jeep, but may be a little challenging for a low slung car. We saw deer, heard owls and bull frogs and the bugs were minimal. There are two houses just off the trail but you would never know they were there except for the residence entering the property. We felt truly isolated but comforted know someone was close by if needed. Cell service was great on top of the mountain. Bring binoculars for a really great views of the other peaks around the area. We will be back!!

I was not really sure what to expect but this spot is absolutely stunning - amazing views from every point you look. It truly felt like we were secluded and had so much privacy, but felt safe at the same time knowing Jill and Fara were not too far away. The hosts were very responsive and kind. It was the perfect little get away!

Runaway Ridge is a beautiful, private campsite! Our kids enjoyed exploring the area and walking along the gravel road. Beautiful views though the trees are still full this time of year. This place would be absolutely stunning once the leaves turn!

The site was smaller than I anticipated and very close to the driveway. I also got unlucky with weather (not the hosts fault) so I didn't end up staying through the weekend.

Very private and serene. Wonderful site to experience nature with privacy. Definitely pay attention to the 4 wheel drive recommendation especially if pull small camper. Totally worth the drive. When you see the gate, look to your left and the grassy area with gravel pad is there.

Beautiful, quiet, and secluded! If you are looking for the perfect getaway in the woods, this is the spot. The hosts keep it well-maintained with the grassy areas mowed (thank you!). And the gravel parking spot for our little trailer was perfect. It includes a picnic table and campfire area. The site is long and meanders into the woods so that there is a lovely amount of space. Our dog loved sniffing around on her leash and runner, and we walked down the well-maintained gravel road (easily accessible with 4wd). We were relieved that we did not encounter loose/roaming dogs, as this is has been an issue when camping in other areas.

We had a great time. Did not spend much time there due to other activities. Easy to get to, felt safe. The owner stopped by to say hello and was super friendly. It is on top of the mountain, sunsets are blocked by trees. Sunrise was excellent, but the total view of the valley below was blocked by growth - it is natural for things to grow. Stars were super bright at night, great view. About 15 minute drive to everything you might need. My only complaint is that the fire pit was towards the back away from where we set up camp. For others, this might be how they prefer it. For us, we would have rather has the fire pit closer. Definitely recommend and we will be looking into the owners other properties as well.
