Beautiful 20+ acres with a large private pond all to yourself! Conveniently located off the state highway, our farm features a rustic barn, a designated camp area, open meadows, blueberries, and various young fruit trees. It’s the perfect place for fishing, canoeing, stargazing, wildlife watching, and relaxing in nature. Take a walk around the pond, wander into the woods, or enjoy the meadows with your pets. Nearby attractions include the Animal Park at the Conservators Center and the charming downtown Mebane. If you’re planning an extended stay (more than 4 weeks) or have a group larger than 8 people, please reach out to us directly.This is dry camping only. We now have a new graveled waterfront camp area (as of spring 2026) that can accommodate RVs, campers, and large vehicles. Smaller vehicles are welcome to use this area too. There are also plenty of natural tent spots throughout the property if you prefer a more tucked‑away location. We work hard to keep this property peaceful, clean, and well‑cared‑for, and we appreciate guests helping us protect the land and water. Vehicles: All vehicles must stay on the graveled camp area or the main gravel/grass driveway. The ground near the pond is low and can get muddy, and vehicles have gotten stuck in the past. Only tents may be set up near the pond, no RVs or campers in that area, please. Fire Pit &Firewood: A portable fire pit is available. Firewood isn’t provided, but you’re welcome to gather sticks around the property. Barn: No camping/tents in the barn. There is a picnic table inside the barn for guests to use, please keep it in the barn and do not move it. Fishing: Fishing is catch‑and‑release only. Please handle fish gently and return them to the water promptly. Trash: We do not have trash service. Please take all trash with you when you leave, including compostable items. Privacy & Maintenance: You’ll have the entire property to yourself, there are no other campers on site. During the growing season, we mow about twice a month and occasionally do maintenance around the blueberry areas. If you see someone working, that’s just us tending to the land. The property was just as expected. Yes the roosters and vehicles were heard but you got used to it. We had several ducks enjoying the pond in the early mornings. A couple of deer crossed the field between the barn and the roadway early Saturday morning. Several Bass were caught in the pond at the far end near the little pond. The dogs enjoyed a refreshing swim in the pond. We had a great time at the fire pit with our family overlooking the pond. We thank our host Wendy/Adam for sharing their property with us, we had a Great Time! Small suggestion would be to have clear numbers on the mail box on both sides. Thanks Again, Dewayne!

This was our second time at By the Water. Wonderful, secluded place in the country that you have all to your own. There's plenty of space for a group of 6 with tents or car-tents. I can't really comment on whether it would accommodate an RV, but it probably would. You'd need to contact the owner on that. It's only 2-3 miles to a general store if you need something which is very convenient. Lots of space to do a little hiking or fishing and though it's near a state highway you don't really hear the traffic and at night when you're sleeping there's very little traffic anyway. The roosters across the road make more noise than the traffic but is not a real issue, especially if you sleep with foam ear plugs. The owners, Wendy and Adam, are great hosts and are generally very accommodating with special requests. They answer you emails very quickly.

The family enjoyed the weekend camping at Wendy and Adam's site. Nice pond and property. Property was easy to find and is accessible with an average sedan. It's a nice spot.

I loved the land. The view was beautiful from the tent site. We caught and released many fish which was a plus. Even though it rained most of the weekend we had a great time overall. I loved that they also have persimmon trees.

Peaceful spot with a tranquil pond for catch and release fishing! My girlfriend and I had a relaxing time with wonderful sunsets. Easy to access and the property was well maintained and freshly mowed.

We really loved this place. Very peaceful and beautiful overlook of the pond. We're so glad that we found this place and the owners were very helpful with all my questions because this is my first time using hipcamp.

Our grand boys enjoyed the fishing and the large meadow where they were able to play golf and baseball. It was peaceful and the site had a nice view of pond. Our only complaint was that the pond had a lot of high weeds all around, making it tough to wind the fish in, but this didn’t stop from catching plenty of fish.

The fishing is out of this world! Our group caught multiple large bass including one that was 8 lbs. We heard chickens from a neighbor’s property for most of the night and some road noise although it feels very private. Will return.

Had a good time. The campsite was private and I enjoyed an amazing thunderstorm. However, what sounded like a chicken farm across the road was very loud from sun up to sound down. And the grass was fairly tall, spent the whole time paranoid about ticks.

We loved this spot! It was so spacious and we felt so secluded (even though the road wasn’t far) the trees did a great job of keeping privacy! There were tons of fish ( my 5 yr old caught about 15 brim, catfish, bass, etc.) we made sure to catch and release but it was a great family trip. Definitely recommend and plan on visiting again.

We really enjoyed our trip. The view was amazing. It felt really secluded even though you can see the road if you're up by the parking area. We lost signal just moments before pulling up so a little nerve wracking but it was so much fun we almost didn't miss not having phone service. Kids had an amazing time and really enjoyed having water access.

Beautiful, private, and excellent fishing! We liked how shutting the gate behind us made it feel even more secluded. There were many great options for where to pitch our tent. There was quite a bit of noise from neighboring properties - shooting practice (afternoon/evening only), dogs, road noise and roosters/screaming chickens that continued throughout the night. I recommend ear plugs or noise cancelling headphones/ear buds to sleep. While it appeared there was a lot going on around us, we didn't see anyone else nor anything but the beautiful fall leaves and reflections in the lake. The positives more than outweighed the negatives, and we would return.

Very pleasant place! I spent a night here in my van; it was quiet, peaceful, and the view of the pond (almost a lake) was beautiful. Property is easy to find, entry is through a gate, and road/two track in is very well maintained. Level ground and good cell service (Spectrum in my case). Another Hipcamp winner!

Wendy was an excellent host and was very responsive to my queries and requests. The property is very picturesque and the main camp site large enough for 2-3 small to medium sized tents. Like other reviews, I would mention that the site is only about 100-150 yards from a state highway and the nearby roosters crowed 24 hours a day so there is some noise. The dogs from the nearby kennel (sounded like hunting hounds) barked off and on during the day and night as well so if you are looking for quiet solitude this may not be the place for you. That being said, we didn't find it too distracting.

This place is a hidden gem! I’m almost hesitant to leave a review for fear of it being booked solid. Very peaceful, secluded, so many places to set up a tent ( we tent camp). This was our first time here and we have already booked again in 2 weeks. Host was very helpful with information as well. Highly recommended!

This is my first time camping trip, I love how private it was. You do hear chickens from somewhere but easily tune them out. There was plenty of shaded spots near the water, that’s where I pitched my tent. Only thing I wish I brought was a fishing pole. Very peaceful and safe.

Gorgeous spot out by a large pond ALL to yourself! Terrific getaway if you need some quiet, private camping. Small town with a handful of stores ten minutes in either direction.

We loved tent camping at By the Water. Easy to find easy to set up. Lovely view across the water. Neighboring chickens have a lot to say, but they become background noise. Also while we are well away from the road, you can hear the traffic. Once on the property it feels very private and secluded.

I hesitate to recommend this place because it will get booked and I'll never get to see it again. Farm pond with fish jumping and Herons patrolling the shore. Closely mown field grass, plenty of level RV parking. Some road noise and chicken coop continuous background noise 24/7. No bugs to speak of end of April.
