Wish I could rate this stay based on the camping experience. Unfortunately, we were not able to access the campsite, despite communicating our arrival in advance, texting the host directly, and calling his cell phone (voicemail box was full). Instead, we spent three hours looking for alternate pet-friendly lodging, finally booking a $300+ hotel stay in Lake Placid.
Perhaps the host was in the midst of a difficult situation. We hope he is well. Hipcamp is investigating and has given us a credit for use at another site. Whatever the outcome, we won’t return to this location.

Racquet River Front Farmstead
We instant booked in the morning and arrived around 6pm. We followed the instructions from the listing but when we got there no one was there to show us where to park or answer questions. Maybe the owner was out of town? I got a message back in the early morning hours saying someone was in “yellow camp” who could help us if we needed anything. We never saw a yellow building so I’m not sure what that meant. We never saw another person the whole time.
There was trash on the ground (maybe from a disrespectful camper?) and a burnt out house. The spot was naturally beautiful and there is so much potential for this place to be a great camping spot. We weren't expecting a welcome committee (in fact we like being on our own and left alone for the most part) but it seemed odd to not hear back when we messaged, and we didn’t know where to dispose of trash, fill up water etc (we took our trash out with us.. not a problem).
On the flip side, it was really nice to be right next to the river. We had cows come through in the early evening and horses were grazing around our camper in the morning. They were very friendly!
I don’t want to be negative, but I want others to have realistic expectations of this site.

Me and my friends come here every year or so. We love how it’s quiet and right on the river. The only bathroom is an outhouse which doesn’t bother us.

I only stayed one night, arriving after dusk and departing before dawn, but I plan to book again in the future. Scott provided immediate communication upon booking. Directions were accurate and there was ample space and privacy on the property.
