Our stay started out fine, but unfortunately, the experience became uncomfortable. The host’s dogs took and chewed up my shoes despite being told not to leave shoes outside. I told Brenda not to worry because the shoes were old, but she hit her dogs in front of me, which was upsetting to witness.
Privacy was also an issue. Brenda and her husband frequently walked around, and early in the morning she repeatedly mowed around our campsite despite having plenty of other property to mow. Our tent had no sidewalls, so it felt intrusive.
When we were packed up and getting ready to leave, we stopped to feed the ducks grapes. My partner pulled onto the grass beside the campsite, off the gravel road, in an area people drive over anyway to access the campsites. Brenda told us to move, and her tone came across as passive-aggressive and rude. We had moved off the gravel road, so the interaction felt unnecessarily confrontational.
I take responsibility for checking out late. Brenda had said not to rush, although she also gave us a noon checkout time, so I may have misunderstood. However, when we were ready to leave, she had already left without providing a gate code. We could not exit the property and had to find someone else to help us get out. When I contacted Brenda, she pointed out that we had checked out late. Regardless of the late checkout, being unable to leave because we had no gate code was concerning.
Overall, the repeated mowing beside our campsite, lack of privacy, uncomfortable interactions, and confusion at the locked gate made this an unpleasant stay. I would have appreciated more consideration for guests’ privacy and clearer communication about checkout and gate access. Dogs in photos are not my Dogs. The property dogs.
