Longview Beach Community is located in Chaptico, Maryland in St. Mary's County. It is approximately 50 minutes south of Washington DC, Northern VA and Andrews AFB. Located on the stunning Wicomico River, it is probably one of Maryland's best kept secrets. Longview Beach was built as a resort community by African Americans in the 1950's. Nathanial and Mabel Ford, my husband Yumi Stephen Hooks' grandparents were founding members of Longview and had one of the first homes built in 1952. Their home was personally designed by Mabel and built by Nathanial. Black professionals, largely Washingtonians, built vacation/weekend bungalows after access to other waterfront communities was denied to them. This small private family-oriented beach club is the perfect setting for family activities on the weekend or during the summer months and year around living. Today Longview Beach is an integrated community enjoyed by people of all walks of life and cultures.

Waterfront Oasis at Longview

Beautiful area! The hosts were gracious and kind even in the midst of this crisis. There are neighbors visible on either side but the spot was so quiet and felt very safe. A lot of park area right near by- awesome place to walk my dog.
