This working horse farm offers shade and soft breezes in the summer by the pond and the autumn tapestry of falling leaves in the autumn. You can hike, paddle down the Potomac, take a trial ride on horseback, sip wine at a local vineyard, do sunset yoga, and make your own pottery all within a stone's throw of this serenity that is Rafeen Farm.You can pitch your tent in the woodline that offers privacy from the neighbors and farm residents or pull up your RV in the shade by the barn for easy hook-ups. Both places offer picnic tables and fire rings and it is only a 1 minute walk to the main house. On your way, you can pet a horse or toss a line in the pond. You can ask the owner about the farm's history and role in the Civil War or pop into Historic Middletown for a bite to eat.

The area itself is beautiful. The views and landscape almost perfect. Instructions said check in with host. I gave my eta to the host and arrived to the address provided. Once there I texted the host on the app to say we’d arrived with now response. A few minutes later I called the number provided and left a vm. About 15 minutes later I called again and this time it went straight to voicemail. I knocked on the door and shouted out hello. Nothing. About ten minutes later a nice lady approached me and said that she was a renter at the property and had no idea there was camping on the land ( red flag). However she called the host and eventually she showed up. She apologized saying she was on business calls etc which I said is ok and I’m glad we finally got in contact with her. She then gave very vague instructions on how to find the campsite location. The road was not suitable for any vehicle other than a 4wd with high ground clearance and there where no signage. The rough track along a tree line at the edge of a field was supposed to be the site. I have a 4wd suv but the clearance was not high enough and I risked damage To my vehicle. I then contacted the host to get clarity and received no response again. Ultimately we left and requested a refund but only after driving almost 2 hours to get there wasting gas and time and also now without a place to sleep for the night. At this point our only option was a dispersed camping site on the c&o canal over 1.5 hours away.

A lovely spot under tall shade tree

Hannah’s place was delightful—I camped in a shady spot under some tall trees, and it was quiet (though a lot of bugs in summer—was happy I had my screen tent for kitchen use). Once or twice a group of horse riders went past my site, and there seemed to be a horse who wandered over near me at night and was snorting and making noises at me :) Hannah was very responsive and no problems at all!

I love camping at Rafeen farm. The site is very peaceful and has full views of the nearby mountain ridge which is absolutely gorgeous. Highly recommend.
