Forty five years ago, our family started assembling 400 acres of woods and fields on the banks of the beautiful Androscoggin River. We enjoy actively managing the property for wildlife habitat and tree growth. The diverse landscape includes over 1/2 a mile of river frontage, a 10 acre wildlife pond, rolling hills in the meadows and steep forested terrain with more than 10 miles of multi-use trails running throughout. Our lands have long been open to local hikers, bikers and cross country skiers, we are excited to share this beautiful property with a larger community. Scout for wildlife and birds, on our private 400 acres of forests and fields. Tire yourself by hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing, or cross country skiing the 10 miles of private trails.  Located across the river from Riverlands State Park, just minutes from Lewiston-Auburn, Bates College, local breweries and just 2 1/2 hours from Boston. Wildlife abounds both on the property and across the river at Androscoggin Riverlands State Park. Quite often, a gentle breeze off the water will offer relief from black flies and mosquitoes, but the right bug repellent is recommended especially to fend off those pesky ticks that are so common in Maine.

This tiny cabin on wheels overlooks meadows on the shores of the beautiful Androscoggin River.  The tiny cabin is a HEATED wooden structure with a queen size bed plus a small sleeping loft, a kitchen table and large picture windows to gaze at the expansive views.  Please be sure to come with bedding or sleeping bags. There is no electricity, but several LED lanterns, an ice cooler, a 2 burner propane camping cookstove, 5 gallon BPA-free water jug are provided.  A dedicated porta pottie is located nearby.   A JOTUL gas fired fireplace should keep you toasty warm.  Scout for wildlife and birds, on our private 400 acres of forests and fields. This is one of those rare finds that you don’t want to leave. Our campsite was on a grassy knoll overlooking the river/lake and surrounded by acres of lawn. We could watch the water from our bed. Just beautiful. My husband enjoyed a chat with the owner and got some of the history of the place. Our dog was in doggy heaven.

John’s place was absolutely beautiful. The fields, the fall foliage, the autumn light filtering through the trees, the breeze blowing off the river—heaven on earth. Our dog was able to run around, we were able to step away from work, and the kids were able to enjoy the natural surroundings. We can’t wait to come back!

An Amazing Fall Weekend

We spent an amazing couple nights tenting out right next to the Androscoggin River at John's 3rd camp site. Our hosts were wonderfully welcoming and accommodating — when we arrived we found our canoe that we rented was already waiting for us by the river's edge. Which is truly a must if you visit here as there is plenty to explore offshore. If the water doesn't entice you, there are also over 12 miles of trails a rock throw from the site that you are able to explore. Because of the kindness and helpfulness of our hosts, the undeniably beautiful views of the river (add on the fall foliage as a major perk), as well as the ability to explore an amazing area, is why we have full intensions of coming back again.

Canvas Tent @ Slippery Rock Trail
We’ve been coming here for the past 7 years or so and we always look forward to it! The hosts are so welcoming and make you feel like your camping in a friends backyard! Their land is private and expansive! Can’t wait to come back next year!

The whole experience from beginning to end was awesome. John he’s a great host and made sure that we felt welcomed. The sites are a decent distance apart, although we were the only ones during our stay. It was nice to have a campsite with easy access to the river. Each site has a clean porta potty, firewood and canoes are readily available for each site. We definitely look forward to staying on John’s land again in the near future. I would recommend this to anybody and everybody.

Third time staying at slippery rock. I really like how nice this spot is and how peaceful the tent sites are. We were able to fish the river and find that fall Maine magic that I chase every year. John is such a bright light in this world, and really cares about preserving his family’s land to stay as it is for the future. So appreciative that they share it for camping.

Canvas Tent @ Slippery Rock Trail
We loved our time at Slippery Rock Trail! The site is very private, quiet and well-maintained. We loved being able to kayak along the river and take naps in the hammock. The bed was comfortable and the outhouse was clean & well-stocked. The hosts warmly greeted us when we arrived to take us to the site, gave us a map with the surrounding walking trails, and made sure we had everything we needed to make sure our stay was a pleasant one. :)

One of my favorite spots in Maine for camping.Slippery Rock Trails is the perfect family escape. The campsites are private, clean, and come with a fire pit and picnic table — ideal for s’mores and late-night stories. The kids loved exploring the trails and spotting deer, while we enjoyed paddling the river. Simple, safe, and fun — highly recommend for families who want nature without the crowds. Definitely be back next year!

Without hesitation, this is one of the top 2 sites we've ever stayed at. The tent sites were private, peaceful and well spaced looking out over the river. The porta-potties were spotless. A system of well marked hiking trails on the property elevates it to the next level. John and his families' commitment, stewardship, and sharing of their land is exemplified by the experience you get when staying here.

Camping at Slippery Rock is a magical experience filled with beautiful scenery, boating, trails, space to spread out, super clean facilities, nature all around and great seclusion. There are only a few sites so it allows you to really relax and be with nature. We love going there with our family as it has turned into a yearly tradition, still not sure who loves it more, our 7 year old or our dog. Looking forward till next year!

We loved the Slippery Rock tent site! Easy to find and John was a wonderful host. Met us at the gate and showed us around the site. Lots of walking trails and fishing around the property. Porta potty next to each site and a tidy picnic table and fire pit.

Camp site has a nice mix of tree shade and open field. Right on the river. Site was very private and had its own portapotty. Quality canoe and paddles. The extensive hiking trails were a wonderful surprise. Host was extremely informative and nice. There was more road noise at night than I would have liked, but maybe that's to be expected on a Friday and Saturday night.

My family and I loved camping on John’s land. I enjoyed meeting John and getting some history about the land. My nephew enjoying walking the property and looking for birds, canoeing, and checking milkweed for monarchs. We will absolutely be back.

This land is everything you could want in a campsite. Gorgeous sunrises, sunsets, and views all around, access to the river for canoeing and swimming, and a sky full of stars each night. John and family are lovely hosts. Beauty shines every hour of the day, and glows each night; the meadow is truly a special place.

Peaceful and beautiful spot to camp along the mighty Androscoggin. We woke to the mist and quiet of this campsite where we enjoyed walking along the river’s edge where resident eagles, sandpipers, fish, and deer were sited. We didn’t avail ourselves of the canoes but had fun watching a father and his children fishing from theirs. We liked that we could drive and park at the campsite for easy setup.

Slippery Rock Outdoor Events
Slippery Rock is GORGEOUS and John and Pat are the best! My husband and I rented the entire campground for our daughter’s wedding and her wedding dreams came true at Slippery Rock—it was magical. The guests were wowed by the setting—the stunning river view background is perfect for a wedding! The guests sat on beautiful wooden benches that John created and the reception was in a field (with a tent) that Pat carefully groomed in preparation for the wedding. Some of my daughter’s friends stayed in the campsites after the wedding and they had a blast swimming and kayaking the next day. My daughter and son-in-law stayed in the tiny house after the wedding, which was super fun for them; the tiny house was also perfect for prepping for the wedding and handy for storing wedding accoutrements. The entire event went better than we had even imagined—the location, and John and Pat, made the event a very special, one-of-a-kind wedding. We are so grateful to John and Pat for all of their help in creating a very memorable and super fun wedding in the picturesque Maine countryside!
