We loved waking up in the morning to see trees and only trees outside of the large window. It felt very private, even with others nearby. We enjoyed the firepit and Adirondack chairs, as well as the easy self-service station for firewood, matches, and snacks. It was all very slick to navigate! The bathrooms were the cleanest that we have ever experienced camping/glamping. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, and would recommend it to anybody! It was such a fun, and affordable, place for us to enjoy. Thanks!

Pros: site nine was large and private. Very conveniently located in Freeport and close to Portland! Very nice bathrooms, electric access and water at our site.
Cons: Open till 10 PM our first night a large group of children were practicing setting up their tents and then before 8 AM the next morning they were up again & very loud near our site. A local resident on a trail walked through our campsite.

The Desert of Maine campground is AWESOME! Wooded sites, amazing bathhouse, hot showers, and cool activities. We had water and electric at our site which was a pleasant surprise. The staff was super nice and the campers were friendly as well. The campground also offered A-frame structures with a single bed, private toilet and sink - nice enough to be called a rustic hotel room. Campground was quiet at night.

This was just the place to start off our camping season! The facilities were amazingly well taken care of. My two boys (9 & 5) had a blast playing giant jenga and the ring game as well as exploring and playing in the desert and going on “adventures” at the playground. Make sure to try the blueberry sorbet- it was great! The campground was quiet and the the sites were level.

Desert of Maine Campground is a unique spot, with great facilities and campsites with ample room and privacy. Work is still being done in this spot, but it’s excellent even now. I’d love to visit again in a year or two when all the planned facilities are fully developed!

The campground was very nice and very clean! We ran into Doug on our last night there and he was super friendly! Away from town but close enough to town to go explore. Small kiosk that had every thing you needed; ice, snacks, drinks, and really cool mugs. Showers and bathrooms were immaculate!

Loved it so much we decided to book three more nights. We have a 20ft travel trailer and fit nicely in site 16. One downside was that our sites sewage was decommissioned, but not an issue as there is a dump station on site. Also, briefly chatted with the owners and they were very welcoming and pointed out some cool stuff for us to check out at the nextdoor attraction. Would 100% recommend staying here.

Campsites were very, VERY close together. Our neighbors did not abide by the quiet hours and there was no enforcement. We bought wood for the campsite and it was not at the campsite when we arrived.

The Desert of Maine (RVs & Tents) was an unexpectedly fantastic experience! The campground was wooded and lovely and quirky in a good way...lots of space in the common areas, good WIFI for some quick work, super clean and pretty bathrooms/showers. Loved exploring the Desert of Maine as an added bonus. Highly recommend this lovely oasis.

Sites were easy to access, bathrooms were brautiful and exceptionally clean. Staff and visitors were all very friendly. Trails and site is interesting, eclectic, and well organized. Looking forward to visiting again.

Doug was extremely accommodating. There were a handful of sites left to choose from and he gave us the option to choose. Beautiful facilities recently renovated. Glamming at its finest! Will definitely be returning with the family.

Really great stay! A little pricey, but the sites were nice and relatively private, the bathrooms were spotless, and the woods were lush and beautiful. Will definitely be back!

Cool camping with a little luxury

We stayed here for a getaway over Labor Weekend which was the perfect choice for it's proximity to cute towns in Down East Maine, as well as Arcadia National Park.
Driving in past rows of tall and leafy trees we immediately felt at home here. Our camp site was nestled in beside a really cool wall of logs and felt super secluded and spacious.
Doug is truly a wonderful and responsive as a host, and I am in awe of the space they've created here. It's honestly camping at it's finest - but with all the modern conveniences. The bath house with beautiful wood panelling and great showers, the extensive games area, the firewood and amenities station with card payment system really takes it a step above your normal campground.
Don't forget to grab a coffee from The Oasis in the morning and check out the extraordinary Desert of Maine while you're there!
Will totally come back and experience this spot again in summer.

The campground is great, it is extremely clean and well maintained. The bath house is amazing, it’s the cleanest bathroom/ showers I have seen at any campground. Camp sites are a little close to one another and not very private. I headed into this camping trip thinking the sites were more secluded based off of the map but they are definitely not secluded. We stayed at site 2, which is a great location, it’s the furthest from the bath house and very quiet, but you are right on top of site 3.

This place was great. So many nice touches….clean bathrooms and showers, self serve ice and fire wood, even drinks and snacks are available. We had campsite #26 which was nestled into a back corner and very quiet, while also being close to the bathhouse. We went out on the dunes and watched the stars and moon one evening, which was so peaceful and fun. Already planning on returning next year!
