What we mean by a "Get-Away" trip!
Finding a quiet, pristine, off-grid campsite with sweeping views and accommodating hosts causes me to pause before telling anyone else about it. I fear it would be ruined if too many people found it. But Bryan and Nicole have figured out how to share their beautiful property while preserving the unspoiled land, limiting campers and protecting the environment.
Needing a break from urban life, my husband Jim and I didn't see another person for four days while we were there. Didn't hear even a plane. No lawn mower. No leaf blower. No cars, no scooters, no motor sounds of any kind. Pure silence with wind and a few crickets.
And, we couldn't get enough of the views from every direction. Serene, rolling hills. Farms with fence rows and big round hay bales. Rainbows over the pond and the waning crescent moon. One evening we watched a big cloud of lightning to the south for over an hour, and the stars at night brought down the late summer constellations.
We want to go back when the weather is cooler. It was extremely hot when we were there. But honestly, anytime at Hills Springs is time well spent.
Practical Info:
• Easy-access off-grid camping.
• Hosts, Bryan and Nicole are responsive via text if needed, but leave campers to themselves.
• Relax out of the sun or rain in the large, open shelter. • Beautiful, sweeping 360-degree vista.
• Pristine pond for a dip and to fish.
As Nicole puts it, the site is: "Lightning and a bonfire and 120 acres of no one."
