Amazing Time

We tent camped at the hideaway, perfect spot, heard some animas from the neighbors next door (camels, donkeys, birds) totally worth it. The boat ride JJ gave use was awesome, we saw several gators. The views can only be experienced in person, pictures won’t do you justice. Highly recommend J&P Creekside Retreat, the hosts (John, Patty, and JJ) were like family and were there for anything you needed. Town was about 10 minutes away for any extras you might need to pick up, otherwise the showers were warm and the bathroom was clean. 10/10

Paddling a Sublime River

Absolutely fab camp. My site was right on the river. Both Johns (father and son) were so helpful. Kayaks to rent and paddle on the sublime Shell River. Lots of communal areas like a big deck hanging over the river. I'm coming back.

Shady Oak

This was our first time here and this review is just for the Shady Oak. We rented both the Hideaway and Shady Oak for four families, but I’ll do a separate review for the Hideaway. Shady Oak was amazing. My friends set up their RV here, but honestly, I’d be happy camping with a tent too. It’s tucked among palmettos with big oak trees that give great shade. It’s not right by the creek like the Hideaway, but the creek and bathroom are just a short walk away. The bathroom has its own outdoor entrance with a flushing toilet and sink, and it’s always clean and stocked with quality toilet paper, paper towels, and air freshener. The site is super spacious and has a larger picnic table, which made it perfect for our group. Like the rest of the property, it’s well maintained with a really inviting main area behind the house—lots of seating, a trampoline, and silks hanging from the trees. Even though all the sites were booked, they’re spread out so much that you barely see other campers, making it peaceful and quiet. Dogs can roam off-leash and the owner’s dog is friendly and barely bothers anyone. Shady Oak has a totally different vibe from the Hideaway, but I loved it just as much. If we come back, I’d be happy staying at either spot. Both are fantastic and perfect if you want a private, relaxing camping experience. They sell firewood at such a good deal, I wouldn't even bring your own. Buy it from them.

Our new favorite camp spot

This was our first time here and this review is just for the Hideaway. We rented both the Hideaway and Shady Oak for four families, but I’ll review Shady Oak separately. The Hideaway completely exceeded my expectations. We camp often in Florida and the biggest issue at most campgrounds is noise. There are just so many campers and not everyone respects quiet hours. This place was the total opposite. It’s private property with only four spots and they are very spread out. I have never experienced that level of peace and quiet while camping. We slept so good, even during a cold snap when it dropped to 29 degrees. The trees helped block the wind and made it feel cozy. The site is tucked into trees with a short walk to the creek. We had three tents and a campfire with plenty of space. The owner was super friendly and responsive. Buy the firewood there. It’s a great deal and so convenient. The amenities were amazing. The kids loved the trampoline and the silks hanging from the trees. The main area behind the house has lots of inviting seating. Even though all sites were booked, we never saw other campers. The bathroom has a private outdoor entrance with a flushing toilet and sink. It was always clean and stocked with quality toilet paper, paper towels, and air freshener. The fenced outdoor shower had very hot water. The guys caught bass in the creek and the dogs roamed freely and were friendly. We didn’t take any pictures because we were too busy having fun!

Shady Oak

We enjoyed camping at J and P Retreat. The entire area was well kept. One can tell the owner takes pride in his property. The host was welcoming and accommodating. We enjoyed the privacy. However. There is a play area for children plus other things available for a family. We will stay again. Easy 10 ++ rating.

Spacious Sites and Key West Vibes

This property is tucked along side a creek and very near a public park. The signage and vegetation give Maragaritaville vibes, but in a cozy campy way. I appreciated the spacious sites and the privacy provided between. The deck along the water is great for lounging and the grounds are ample enough for a stroll. The bathroom is very clean and indoor, with a toilet and sink. The single shower is outdoor with the bonus of hot water. From my site you will hear road noise during the day. The location is removed from city life, but a 10 min drive will get you to a grocery store and gas station. John was an attentive and friendly host. I would stay again if in the area.

Fun place to stay!

We loved staying at J and P Creekside Retreat. The grounds are clean, with something new to see each time you walk around. Waking up on our creek side site was so peaceful. Showering in the outdoor is a favorite for us Michiganders!

This was our second time staying at the Hideaway. It was just as wonderful as the first. We will reserve there again! If you want a quiet space and amazing tranquil canoeing this is the place to be. Shower is HOT, bathroom is clean.

The best experience!!!

The truth is that the photos do not do this place justice: it is much more beautiful in real life than I ever imagined. It is a very cozy, peaceful spot surrounded by nature, with a wonderful atmosphere and charming details in every corner. Having a river right next to it and an area to go fishing was a perfect bonus. I absolutely loved it and it exceeded all my expectations. Without a doubt, we will come back and recommend it to our friends.

Really cool little spot. Campsites are spread out and have water access. There is an outdoor shower with hot water and a restroom. John was a fantastic host, and I will definitely be back in the future.

Can't say enough good things about John, his wife, and his family! The property is exactly the vibe we were looking for on our adventure with our dogs and kid. It's private yet near things. There's a beautiful creek right on side for fishing and kayaking. There's even a trampoline and a tree house! They have truly made our camping experience even better than I imagined. You can tell how much they care about the property and the guests experience. Idk how we will find something on par with this but I pray we do!

John, his wife Patty, and son John are all so wonderful! Extremely family friendly with lots of activities if you have kids, and REAL dog lovers. If you're looking for the perfect peaceful relaxing getaway for ALL your family members look no further. Dogs are allowed off leash and our dog felt very much at home and happy to have so many new friends! We were so at peace we extended our stay. We had 2 different sites that I'd strongly recommend. The Hideaway was stellar and felt like a literal hideaway! Cute and tucked away with a shady spot with a hammock. Shadie Oaks was exactly how it sounds, wonderful and shady and an extra nice big space with plenty of room in the sun! Both spaces have a fire pit, some chairs, and a picnic table. You're not far from town to get more supplies or ice, but it feels like you're out in the middle of nowhere. Potable water isn’t available, but electric is provided and an amazing outdoor shower! Very nice bathroom as well. Highly recommend getting wood from them too. Got a huge bundles and well worth the price. It was a very pleasant stay. If peace, quiet, and relaxation is what you're looking for you've found THE place you NEED to stay. It helped going out on the river a few times as well. The kayak rentals are VERY reasonable. We had fun taking our dog out on the tandem kayak! Fixed us right up and we're looking forward to our next trip because we plan on visiting again in the future!

We had a good experience; the campsite is spacious and has plenty of shade. The bathroom was clean and close to our tent. John was very attentive. We had a problem with our inflatable mattress and had to buy a new one, but luckily, and very conveniently, there's a Walmart only 20 minutes away. The only thing we didn't like is that for us, the camping experience is about connecting with nature, but the constant noise of passing cars disrupted that connection. We would come back, but to a different campsite. Overall, we enjoyed it.
