Near Rocky Mountain National Park
Within a 60-minute drive from the Moraine Park Discovery Center.
In the spring of 1860, Calvin Ward found gold on a mountainous western fringe of Boulder County. The town named after him sprouted out of a deep ravine in Left Hand Creek. By the 1880's, half a dozen stamp mills thumping day and night kept Ward humming. According to the federal census, the population peaked at 424 in 1890 then sank to 10 in 1950. During the 1960s, Ward began growing again as a haven for dropouts and pursuers of alternative lifestyles.  Remnants of the Big Five Mines still pockmark the surrounding hills, although pine, spruce, fir and aspen have erased most of the scars. In 1917 Georgia O'Keeffe stayed in Ward and painted the Ward Church. She would hike the Switzerland trail daily. She then backpacked all the way to Estes Park. This is an authentic miners cabin renovated as a simple, artist retreat or lovers getaway. There is one loft bedroom but you are welcome to bring additional sleep things to accommodate more guests. We have a piano, so you can come up to write music or practice. We have a hot tub for relaxing in after. The stars look magical here. We have a wood burning stove for added romantic ambiance. There is plenty of paths for walking around town to ignite your creative juices. Miners often chose player poker for their entertainment post a long day working in the mines. Perfect spot for a game night tucked away in this historical gold mining town. Also, enjoy as ski cabin. Eldora ski resort is 30 miles away.

The hot tub was amazing, a d so relaxing after a long day of hiking. We got to see a full moon from the hot tub which was so pretty. Cabin was adorable, and felt very cozy.

Hidden Gem
This place is amazing. The host is super communicative and does a great job spelling out what to expect. It is as described if not better. It has everything you could want, including great blankets/bedding, plenty of cookware, dishes, towels, wash clothes, games, and top of the line appliances make cooking super easy. The hot tub is such a nice respite after a long day. It is perfect for a couple looking for a mountain getaway. We cannot wait to get back this summer.

Loved this place
Jessica was an amazing host, very nice and welcoming but not overbearing and we felt like we had plenty of privacy. The cabin is so cute and clean. We couldn’t recommend this place enough to anyone looking for a gettaway!

Lovely rustic cabin
Lovely rustic cabin, perfect getaway for couples. The hot tub was super cozy for the snowy surroundings. It’s a big plus for pianists too - we had fun recreating our favorite Bon Iver and Beatles songs :) Thanks for the lovely stay

Vein Of Gold Cabin
Hurtful and unhelpful host
The cabin itself was beautiful. Unfortunately, during our stay the lock to the cabin broke and locked us out without our dog. It was about 10 degrees out and dark. Jessica was extremely unhelpful and kept putting off calling a locksmith, blaming us for “breaking” her lock (locksmith later confirmed it was not user error, but malfunction of the locking system). She asked me to pay for a locksmith if she called one and acted like she wasn’t going to do it if i didn’t agree to pay. I had no service so could not call one of my own. She did end up calling one much later after I said we could just get the fire department to come. While we waited in the snow for locksmith to drill the lock, we were crying from stress & cold and Jessica kept making comments about the cleaning we were expected to do and even asked, “Hello? hello?” when she thought I didn’t respond loudly enough. She asked us to stay our last night in the unlocked, unsecured cabin but we left as soon as we got our dog and drove home in the middle of the night. She is still holding part of my refund hostage for a “cleaning fee” for one dirty tray.
