Located just twenty miles from downtown Alamosa, Dunes Desert Camp offers remoteness and privacy coupled with the convenience of being near a vibrant metropolitan center. Get away from it all, and get back to finding yourself in the desert. We have one large Safari tent with a double bed and 5 two person dome tents fitted with camp cots Sleeping bags, inflatable mattresses and camping equipment is available to rent on site.

Wild Camping Site 1

Chris upgraded us to one of his beautiful new tents. We had a quiet, peaceful sleep and a beautiful breakfast all on our own. The outdoor shower felt wonderful!

Desert Dome Tent 2

Stunningly beautiful base camp

1,000 star review!! This place is breath-taking beautiful! We stayed in the safari test which is solid glamping at its true finest. Bring nothing everything is provided for the safari tent experience! But you can do anything from basic tent camping with your own gear, RV or dome tent camping all the way up to glamping here! The property is massive so it feels very private and secluded but there is a group bonfire area to connect with others if you want! A full outdoor kitchen for cooking! The host, Chris, is exceptionally charming and gracious. Its within minutes of towns (Mosca and Alamosa , a hot springs pool (Sand Dunes Recreation aka Hooper Springs) and of course, the Sand Dunes. Simply the perfect location!! Running hot showers, pristine bathrooms! A lot of time and love has gone into this property. The host has excellent recommendations and even provides guide services. His recommendation to stop at Dune Valley Distillery for some small batch potato vodka and cocktails (maybe a five minute drive?) in Mosca and to rent sand boards/sleds there was so perfect! Avoid the lines at the park for sand sleds! I can't say enough about how beautiful the property is with 360 views of mountains and Sand Dunes! The sunrises/sunsets were spectacular! Stars at night! Close enough to town if you want a fancy dinner or just cook a steak at the camp and enjoy a hammock or chairs (he had it all on the property!!). Will definitely be back with a group, best base camp ever!!!

Solitude!

This is a great spot to camp when visiting the San Luis. We appreciate all Chris did to welcome us and acquaint us with the property. The outdoor shower was a hit, and we loved the solitude of camping on a 300-acre property. Our dog loved chasing the rabbits! We will definitely return again soon!

Camping in style

Very unique Largely isolated, but excellent view of the dunes. As well as easy access to the. Chris’s place is spotless, outdoor hot water shower (with privacy wall) . Immaculate toilets with supplies. Fully fitted outdoor bush kitchen. A camping spot to remember . And not to mention, one of the most helpful hosts

Get ready for stars!

Chris's campsite truly was such a magical place! My partner and I went on a week long road trip throughout Colorado and this place was by far the coolest spot we stayed at. I would completely recommend it to any adventurer out there. The stars and the views were incredible. Thanks to a great host, we felt super welcome here.

Wild Camping Site 2

Fantastic Views & Fantastic Company

This was one of my favorite stops on my summer road trip for multiple reasons. One, the proximity to Great Sand Dunes National Park and the gorgeous 360 views. Two, the remoteness and privateness that allow for awesome nighttime stargazing. Three, an outdoor shower with hot water. And most importantly a genuine and personable host. Chris is a HUGE part of the magic of this place. I am so grateful that I got to spend part of my journey across the U.S. chatting with him while taking in such beauty. Thanks Chris!
