Can't say enough good things about Shay & Liz's campsite. Super warm and inviting, all the spaces are well thought out with attention paid to every detail to maximize ease and comfort. Having a dedicated camp sink and prep station was clutch. It was also amazing after a day out on the trail to come back to two warm showers on site. Loved that there were only a few sites so we didn't have to compete with 90 other campers for bathrooms or water. Borders the Russian Gulch State Park with miles of beautiful hikes, and if you mountain bike there's over 200 miles of single track right there as well. Oh also, Shay and Liz are about the nicest people you could ever meet. 100% recommend, can't wait to come back!

Fantastic stay at Shay & Liz’s Stargazer site at Waterfall Camp near Mendocino. Shay met us after we settled in and was extremely friendly, made us feel welcome and answered all our questions. They have created a well maintained/clean and provide a perfect setting for a weekend getaway. The camp is well located next to Russian Gulch State Park hiking trails too! Would highly recommend this HipCamp site!

Glamping at its best!

We just spent our 2nd wedding anniversary at the waterfall camp and had the best experience. Each site is quite private, there were chairs around our fire pit with blankets and a canopy over our picnic table. We quickly realized that we had over packed. Liz and Shay have thought of everything! It felt like we were home away from home. Having running water and hot showers was a complete game changer. Shay had so many helpful tips from where to find the best seafood to where to go hiking. He made himself available without being obtrusive. We can’t wait to go back!

We recently spent three unforgettable days at Waterfall Camp, staying at the Pygmy Grove campsite (#2) — and it was nothing short of magical. The site itself was perfect in every way. Shay + Liz's campsite is amazing - such a peaceful, beautiful property with lots of thought and care given to the MANY amenities on site (heated showers, flushing toilets, little kitchenette-style sink + table, fire pit, warm blankets, etc...). They've very thoughtfully laid out the sites so that you get a nice, private experience (something that seems to be rarer these days)! We loved camping here (our dogs did too!), and such a great location! Amazing trailhead directly off the property, plus a few minutes driving from the coast, beaches, town(s). Plus Shay+Liz are awesome hosts - really cool people, good vibes all around :) Couldn't have been happier about our experience here, 100% highly recommend and we'll be back for sure!

We were amazed at how Shay and Liz created these amazing campsites on their property, so many little details that made our camping experience comfortable and to help us feel welcome! We loved having the sink right in camp and the plentiful firewood. The property was right next to the state park and the trail to the waterfall was magical with wildflowers and redwoods. Our kids and dogs loved it. We were so grateful for a wonderful experience with our entire family.

We had an amazing experience here. Everything we needed was provided (clean bathrooms and showers, grilling equipment for the fire pit and individual sinks for each site to wash dishes) and a great communal activity space with badminton, pickleball, and other games. Straightforward self checkin process, just drive up and pick up your packet and go to your site! Shay and Liz have created a great space

Relaxing retreat in coastal woods

A little slice of relaxation - where the forest meets the sea We came for a camping trip with our pup.. to adventure some nearby trails.. and to escape to the wild. The property was artsy, home and well kept. We had "neighbors" at another site and they were far enough away for it to still feel private. Our dog loved sunbathing on the kitchen deck in the morning. And he thanks you for the dog treat!

This was such a lovely spot and the best hipcamp we’ve stayed at! It was basically glamping. There were so many nice touches - the sink with running water, blankets around the fire pit, amenities in the bathroom and the kids loved the game area. One of the best perks was we were in very close walking distance to Russian Gulch trails!

This place is amazing! When we arrived, there was an envelope waiting for us with my name and inside was a couple things, but what stuck out to me was that Shay and Liz left 3 dog treats in the bag because they knew we were bringing our 3 dogs! Shay also greeted us in the evening and brought us some fire starter. Because this is called Waterfall camp, we made sure to do the hike to go see the waterfall, but unfortunately, the bridge to get to the waterfall was closed, so we couldn’t see it, but the hike was beautiful nonetheless! Overall, it was an awesome place to stay and we will definitely be coming back again! Thank you Shay and Liz!! :)

I am not a big reviewer of things..... but Shay and Liz's Hipcamp is absolutely amazing and worth a review! I predict that within the next year or two their Hipcamp will make a "Best of Hipcamp" list. Excellent location, only a few minutes drive to the beach and their property actually borders Russian Gulch State Park. You can literally hike from your campsite into a beautiful state park. The waterfall is less than 1.5 miles from the campsite. The price of the site is extremely reasonable, especially given the added value of included firewood, running water with sink, and hot showers. I actually think Shay and Liz could charge a lot more and it would still be worth it. I got to meet Shay and he was warm and welcoming. Overall, I cannot recommend this hipcamp enough. My family and I will definitely be back. Thanks Shay and Liz!

What a magical place. Liz and Shay have done a wonderful job creating an amazing camping spot. They were easy to communicate with and really thought of everything when planning this vacation destination. I especially loved the hot outdoor shower! My husband and kids appreciated the easy access to hiking and biking trails.

This is a very special place, Shay and Liz really thought about the comfort of their campers. We felt well cared for, the bathrooms and showers were clean with wonderful products provided by our hosts, the chairs with blankets!, fire pit and wood provided, games, ....My goodness the site was a hop from the state park and wonderful hikes abound. Stars, beauty, and comfort are all here. Thank you Shay and Liz!

My husband, dog, brother and his partner loved staying at Shay and Liz’s place! You can tell they put a lot of effort and love into creating a comfortable and beautiful experience to share with folks. It was my dog’s first camping trip, so we chose convenience and comfort over doing rugged backpacking, and honestly sometimes nature + the comforts of a clean bathroom, running water, showers, games, fire pits, etc. makes the experience better and lower stress. My dog loved having space from other campsites because she is shy with people (but she really wanted to play with the other dog, though they had enough space where they could each be on long leashes and not get into mischief, lol.) Everything was easy and cozy! Enjoyed meeting Shay to learn about the property, and appreciated having so many amenities provided. We all agreed we need more 2+ nights here in the future, but we loved the time; the open sky, cooking on provided fire grill, and in the morning we walked into the redwoods from an entrance right next to camp. Absolutely loved it and we will be back!!! :)

This was my first Hipcamp site ever and I was spoiled! It was like being in a fairy dream. I had rain and wind so I might recommend either of the other sites for better protection from the elements for tent campers like me. But, overall, I was very happy with my entire experience. I appreciate the Hosts” communication and seamless self check in process. The detail and love they put into this camping experience is truly remarkable!

It was a wonderful sight to camp at. Shay and Liz were both very welcoming and kind. They provided wood and fire starter. Many amenities were available such as shampoo, bodywash, (hot water), toilet paper, bug spray, sunscreen etc. 10/10 would recommend! Update on the trail to the waterfall: the bridge you need to cross in order to reach the waterfall has been destroyed by a fallen tree. This is as of April 4th, 2025.

Possibly the nicest campsite we’ve stayed at. Shay and Liz were super communicative and helpful prior to our arrival. The site itself is set up with everything you might need–dry firewood and kindling, kitchen with sink and counter space, fire ring with grill and tools, chairs, blankets, and a common area with horseshoes, corn hole, badminton and clean toilets and showers (with hot water!). Really well done and inviting and comfy. We’ll be back!

My Favorite Weekend Retreat

I return to this site again and again. If they aren’t careful I’ll try to move in! It’s pristine, sweet, well appointed, and personally touched. The waterfall hike is stunning, the amenities are great (early morning volleyball!) and the location is perfect. Thank you friends! I’ll be back (again) soon!
