Waterfall Camp

The setting is beautiful and there is a short path to gain access to the State Park. Each site has more privacy than what you would get in a campground and the drive to downtown Mendocino is only 10-15 minutes. I definitely plan on returning.

Beautiful group camping location!

Had the most amazing time with our friends! We had a group of around 11 people and we booked two campsites so we had enough parking and space and were so surprised by all the great amenities! There was a tent to protect us from the rain set up already when we arrived and they provided wood and other fun games :) the bathroom was also beautifully built and was super clean and the shower even had warm water!! Absolutely loved this place and can’t recommend it enough! The drive to and from Mendocino was also easy and simple. The hike on site was also stunning and the waterfall was a fun visit. definitely will be coming back!!

Site 4 Glamping in Retro Westfalia

We really appreciated the peace & quiet of Shay & Liz's Hipcamp, and having everything we needed to have a fire... wood, kindling, paper and a lighter tucked away and ready to go. But the BEST feature was the well-marked trail to the waterfalls from our campsite which was absolutely gorgeous!

This spot was incredible! Such a cozy and private area on the site with all the amenities needed for a great stay. The communal area was really nice too. Shay and Liz were super communicative and helped with any and all questions that we had. The whole thing is just as great as it looks!

This was my second trip to Shay & Liz's wonderful, gem of a place outside Mendocino surrounded by the Redwoods. I was there with three friends to hike and mountain bike the area - the area that begins, and ends at the gate which is 100 feet from your tent! The facilities are top notch - real bathrooms and showers, great fire pits with an endless, free, wood supply, games on the lawn...is it camping? You bet but with some welcome amenities. Shay and Liz are amazing people and I highly recommend their Hipcamp!

Site 4 Glamping in Retro Westfalia

YES!!! I absolutely loved Waterfall camp. Shay was lovely. Welcoming and helpful. Our spot was created with such care and expertise. Sweet touches like Mexican blankets on the chairs around the fire pit. Kitchen area and shower/bathrooms were delightful. All built and designed by Shay and Liz. It made camping easy. The hike to the waterfall was beautiful too. Loved it. Definitely plan on returning!

Just the right amount of glamping

We fell in love with our site as soon as we pulled up. There were so many nice touches, all the way down to a roll of poop bags for the dogs. Liz and Shay were fantastic hosts, and we enjoyed chatting with them about foraging and fishing. We'll definitely be back!

Shay & Liz have the most beautiful, amazing and quite campgrounds I've been to so far. Everything was esthetically wonderful look and felt like heaven indeed. The waterfall hike was absolutely amazing. Love the secluded area, very private. Shay and Liz are very nice hosts and always reply fast. Thank You so much for sharing this piece of heaven with us. Ultimate Nature Escape!

Where do I even start! Shay and Liz's property was so far booked out and for good reason. We arrived, the weather was perfect, it was golden hour, and I felt like we kept finding easter eggs, weather it was fun trails to explore, horseshoe, cornhole, badminton, all the amenities they had thought of from mosquito coils, sunscreen + face wash, or blankets for each and every chair around the fire. You can tell just how much love has been put into this property and then you meet Shay and Liz, two absolute gems, incredible hosts who will literally help you out with anything, and who have been local for a long time. Their dog might also make an appearance and she will definitely bring a smile to your face! A place this big and this nice is hard to come by. I will be telling all my friends about waterfall camp!

On a scale of 1 to 10, Waterfall Camp gets a solid 100! The hosts, Shay and Liz, are friendly, responsive, helpful, and definitely have a knack for hospitality!! They provide so much more than just a camp site, they provide everything campers could possibly want or need for a beautiful, fun, and easy camping experience! Each site has a large picnic table (with mosquito repelling insence), a dish washing station with dish soap and drying rack, a fire pit, wood, kindling, screen, grill, and heat-proof gloves, and Adirondack chairs with blankets. Honestly…you could just bring a tent, food, your toothbrush and towel, and you’d be all set, especially since they have a communal area with wash “room” with 2 toilets, 2 (hot) showers stocked with shampoo/conditioner and body wash, and a sink with hand soap and hand towel. There’s also an open field with cornhole, badminton, horseshoes, and Adirondack chairs. The sites also have open areas for unbelievably amazing stargazing! Waterfall Camp is located right on the boundary trail to Russian Gulch State Park trails for excellent hiking and mountain biking. It’s also close to the Caspar Roadhouse, Caspar Headlands, Mendocino and Fort Bragg.

We had a great time staying at Waterfall Camp. The sites come well-equipped with level tent areas, chairs & table, firewood, water, etc. We enjoyed an easy hike to see the waterfall. We played some cornhole in the common area. The bathrooms are clean and the hot showers were a nice treat. Would definitely recommend staying here!

So beautiful that my wife had to drag me home. The site was easy to find. The owner (Shay) came out and greeted us, chatted, and helped us get the fire going (thanks!). They thought of absolutely everything and had lots of things available at the site (cooking utensils/ grill top to use over the fire pit/ spices at the communal space/ etc) so we didn’t use a lot of the stuff we brought. The hike to the waterfall through the forest was AMAZING! We stopped to look at everything and got distracted by every mushroom and little thing we saw.

I loved my time camping here! The campsite had everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay. We were provided with all the basic necessities, and the site was clean, well-maintained, and peaceful. It was the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy nature. I'd definitely come back again!

Site 4 Glamping in Retro Westfalia

Truly wonderful spot. I stayed there while working remotely and mostly had the place to myself. It was so peaceful, and Shay and Liz have curated this little oasis where you have all the creature comforts you might want (including glorious hot showers) while simultaneously being in the great outdoors. I loved it so much, and also enjoyed the neverending supply of blackberries :)

#4 Huckelberry Heaven

This was my first hip camp experience and I couldn’t be more satisfied! The location was great - super close to the main town in Mendocino, but it also had its own unique vibe right off of Russian Gulch. The forest off of the back of the campsite was quiet and lush with tons of beautiful trees and a waterfall. The campsite itself was perfect for what we were looking for. It was my girlfriend’s first time camping, so having the warm showers and toilets were very nice. I was also very happy with campsite 4. It was in its own private area with a really nice patio setup. The stove was great, and having the running water there was clutch for cleanup after dinner. It was so nice to sit by the fire pit in chairs with the provided blankets. It was so peaceful and there were no bugs! Lastly, the hosts were incredible. They left helpful welcome package and Shay came to greet us when we arrived. He was super friendly and helpful. We gladly opted for the basket of garden veggies, which were delicious. Overall, it was a great experience!

Doesn’t Get Much Better

Phenomenal Hip Camp! Perfectly appointed. Clean and comfortable yet still immersed in nature. The waterfall hike is a treat! Close to the towns of Mendocino and Fort Bragg for day trip adventures. The hosts were warm and friendly and went above and beyond to make sure our stay was unforgettable. 12/10 recommend. We will be back.

We loved everything about this camp! The setting and facilities were amazing. Running water with hot showers. Hiking & biking right from the sites. Very peaceful. Town and beach only 10 min away. Shay was a great host. Checked on to make everything was ok. Highly recommend.

Great camp spot! The accommodations were fabulous and the tent area was wood chipped so no worry about dirt getting in the tent! Easy access to great hiking, waterfall and short drive to the beach. Would absolutely recommend. Fabulous hosts as well!

Simply the BEST!

This is our second year in a row staying on Shay and Liz's beautiful campsite. It's by far the best Hipcamp we've ever stayed at. This time we hired 3 of the 4 sites (they just added a fourth with a cute campervan) for our group of 12 people, celebrating our friend's 50th birthday. It was simply perfect for the group - sites far enough away from each other that people could head to bed or wake up early and not disturb other groups. The main open area has several games such as horseshoes, badminton and cornhole - which we had so much fun with. Each campsite area has a wonderful 'kitchen' bench with running water, dish soap and cooking utensils. We cooked on the firepit grills. A huge bonus is the provided firewood, so won't run out and have to end your night early :) It was cool and misty during our weekend but we were toasty warm by the fire and with the stunning trees around us. Shay and Liz's upgrades this year to the shower and toilet block are so impressive! Not one person had a cold shower throughout the whole weekend, the water was hot and showering under the clear ceiling is wonderfully refreshing. The provided chairs and blankets meant less for us to pack! Hiking down to the waterfall was absolutely serene and absolutely recommend you explore the trails - you won't be disappointed. Finally, Shay and Liz are the MOST kind, generous, lovely people you will meet. Their heart and soul clearly goes into every thoughtful touch. Do not hesitate to book Waterfall camp!
