Redwoods Hostel &amp; Campground

The camp was crowded, cluttered, and dirty. The pictures were likely taken quite a while ago. We ended up driving to the Walmart down the street for restroom breaks because the port-a-potty was full. Campers were very close together because it’s such a small site, that it was hard to sleep when others were still up talking.

The family living there are so so lovely, great people. But they’ve taken over the resources guests are paying for, there are lots of them, so it’s quite uncomfortable to feel you’re interrupting to use resources. Kitchens busy, kids asleep on sofas. No shower curtain all the way around with people and children everywhere. It’s not really for guests?

Worst hip hop ever owner overbooks campsites the place was a dump the shower was a handheld attached to an outside wall on top of a pallet with no curtain the restroom was a porta potty that was full when we got there and was then pumped and full two days later due to 32 people in a four-site area there was also four permanent RVs and no space for RVs that booked their campsites and returned away due to the full-timers there

Location is great! I had no assigned place for my tent and had to move after 1hr because someone else was parking where I had set it up. Also, a bit noisy. If you bring headphones and go to less busy time maybe your experience will be better :)

I greatly appreciated the hospitality and sense of community here! I felt well taken-care of, and it was a perfect spot for me on my road-trip. I appreciated being able to cook, use WiFi, store my food in the fridge, and socialize when I wanted to and retreat when I needed to. The recommendations for places to enjoy nearby were also very helpful. The place is undergoing upgrades and has a rustic feel, which was completely fine for me but may not work for everyone.

It was okay but nothing like we expected or what we saw in the photos. We were grateful to find this at the last minute and felt safe but there were lots of other people on this small site and it was pretty loud all through the night from traffic or industrial noise.

I wish I could upload a photo to show how ghetto it was. It was stressful bc we were told there were too many people and we didn’t have a place to stay so we were looking for other places but it was the 4th of July and no vacancy anywhere. It was very crowded. We only slept there because it was so over run with people.

They need to clean up the place - campsites clean but outer edge of campground has clutter. Need better communication between reservation taker and the staff at campground. I would not recommend campers over 24 foot - Not enough room to turn around a big rig. But had a pleasant stay overall, but if I had children with me, I would not have.

This space did what I needed, but it met just basic needs. The portapotty wasn't the cleanest and the outdoor shower they mentioned in the listing had absolutely no coverings. 😅 It was just a shower head out in the open on the side of the building. This would be great for RV campers who just need a plot of land to stay on. The hostel portion was decent. The long term renters that were there were nice and welcoming. I did feel a bit like I was intruding (totally on me) so I didn't use the hostel space much. The guys were great though and their dogs are super cute!

Best campsite EVER!!

Ok, best site EVER! AMAZING!! We arrived around 8 and our pop up camper instantly decided to break. The other guests there and the host proceeded to help us fix it, offer us a beer, and a campfire where we had the best conversations all night long. The host was amazing, even made us coffee in the morning before we left. The hangout spot was awesome and porta potty clean. Best campsite EVER!!!

Site is in disrepair. Doesn’t look anything like what is pictured or described in the listing. Hammock not present, dome pictured is in broken and appears as a pile of garbage. Shower is nice and warm but you stand on a raised pallet with nails sticking out, pallet is not structurally sound and the whole thing tilts off the base if you step to one side. Single fire pit in use by residents until 4-5 in the morning 15-20 feet from only available campspace meaning you’re sleeping listening to people partying cussing and screaming throughout the night. At one point there was a couple copulating in some bushes near our tents. Worst camp site we visited on this trip and also the most expensive. Host Sean and family were very friendly and accommodating, dogs were friendly. This is not the quality of what is listed by a long shot and appears as if it’s had little to no upkeep in the past year. Other recent reviewers stated the site was under construction. This did not appear as the case. Site was in complete disrepair and nothing looked as though it had been constructed cleaned maintained in many months.

Great spot before/after redwoods

My girlfriend and I pitched a tent for a night. The host Ameer was very friendly and got back to us fast. The property is nice with room for a camper. We enjoyed the living spaces and had a campfire. They are working on the property to accommodate a big stone tub and shower alongside restrooms. Hostels are cool because of the people you meet and this one is no different. Close to the beach and river. Can’t wait to see when it’s all done!

True hostel vibe, chill, fun hosts!

I booked this spot the morning of, needing a place to crash during the last part of a big road trip home. I pulled in with my SUV/bed on wheels and there was a clean porta potty and a couple other RVs parked as well. Clean open area in front. The house/large shed is the common area/a really cool and large space full of comfy furniture, food prep stuff, coffee, etc etc etc. Check the pics! For a hostel experience, this counts as plush in my book, and super stocked with the essentials. Also the hosts on site are RAD!!! They made sure I was comfortable and making use out of the awesome space, not just sitting by my car alone all evening. They graciously build a fire, had sweet pups playing around, lit citronella candles, offered me a beer, I could go on! These are the kind of hosts that you want when you’re out on someone’s land! Made you feel like you belong. We had great conversation all night and gave me the best reccs on what to do as I headed out the next morning (That 16” pancake was fantastic btw!) The backyard/common fire pit area is so relaxing and you look out into beautiful fields and big trees. The sounds are so peaceful. Everything you need for either an easy tent or an even easier RV/car camp night(s) is here. If you’re already self sufficient when traveling, you’ll find this soooo plush and if you’re a little forgetful or just needed a place to crash, you’ll still find all you need PLUS some amazing folks that I bet would help you out. BOOK THIS SPOT PLEASE💜

We stayed here for a night along a roadtrip down the coast. There was a new cleared out spot to camp in which was pretty comfortable. Lots of couches and places to chill inside the "living room" area with kitchen and fridge to store food. I worked remote and the wifi worked well for a zoom meeting and uploading projects.

At first I wasn't sure what I had gotten myself into, but the stay overall was good. The contact with the host was excellent, and the maintenance guys (+ their dogs) were fun to hang around with. The campsite is as of now still under construction. I was allowed to stay in the hostel part, instead of camping out, because the soil was too muddy for that, but this will be different in the future. I'm looking forward to what this place will become! I'll definitely recommend this place.

Cool idea and space. I’ll come back again with a better understanding of what’s offered. Ameer was a VERY kind, attentive, and welcoming host. I came in a large motorcoach/RVwith no intention of needing the shared indoor space and hoping for more of a “camping” vibe. Not the best spot for that but if joining a group, perfect! This is a great home base type situation for solo or groups of folks on recreational trips to Smith. I came in late December so there wasn’t much to enjoy outside; soggy, no hot tub, overall rainy so not ideal for campfires outside obviously. However, there’s a woodstove inside and plenty of wood!

We were only able to stay one night because of a family emergency. Ameer and host Ron were so accommodating and kind. Living room is awesome. Locations is awesome. Can't wait to come back- and 10 stars for hosts who are good people.

The Redwoods Hostel is the most welcoming campground/hostel I’ve ever had the pleasure of staying at. Ameer goes above and beyond to make guests comfortable. The location is great, the amenities are top notch, and the property is really cool and they seem to be constantly improving it.

On arrival, Matt was extremely attentive to making sure I had everything I needed. What a great host. The space definitely has a communal feel although it’s a little cluttered with random stuff. It’s also close to the 101 so it’s quite loud. It was nice to meet other travellers around the fire at night and the quality of conversation was high and stimulating. Facilitated predominantly by our awesome host, who was entertaining and quickly dissolved any awkwardness, strangers were talking up a storm. It was definitely good to have Internet and a fridge freezer to give my cooler a break, but the space does feel like it’s in transition and it like there’s possibly quite a lot of cooks in the kitchen behind the scenes. Overall a really cute campsite with a lot of potential, but hard to tell if the owners really care enough about the space to invest in it properly. Also a few things advertised on the campsite that simply didn’t exist like the washer dryer. But really great location to land if you want to explore the big trees and the dunes around Crescent city. Thanks Matt for a lovely stay.

Matt is the kind of camp host everybody wants! We made last minute reservations, arrived late and exhausted. Matt was up when we arrived, went out of his way to help us be comfortable, settle in and continued to make sure we had what we needed. I made a mistake and thought the site included electric and offered to pay extra. Matt contacted the owner of the property and he offered me the electric at no extra cost! When we woke the next morning, we found lots of berry bushes in the setting of what could be a quaint camp. And, this is where my review becomes a mixed bag. Amenities are offered that are not available, the laundry facilities. According to the owner, the washer and dryer will run one day. The second evening, was uncomfortable for my son and me as too much alcohol was being consumed on site and because the owner allows this, Matt had no control over the situation. We opted to find another camp for the remainder of our time in the area. The property is pretty, however, there is accumulated stuff that could and should be cleared away from the grounds. Excessive alcohol intake is not my cup of tea. Perhaps put that in the listing. Partying allowed! The highlight: I cannot say enough about the camp host Matt and his creative input around the site! He was the joy of this Hipcamp stop!

Friendly host, great kitchen/rec space with refrigerator, dish washing sink, laundry machines, massage chair, and keurig for coffee. It’s like camping in your friend’s backyard. When we were there the huckleberries were abundant and there were tiny tree frogs everywhere. The kids even got to swim in the stone bathtub. Great base for exploring the beach and redwood forests
