Okihi is a unique sanctuary where habitat restoration meets outdoor adventure. Nestled in a diverse landscape, we focus on healing the land through hands-on conservation while offering a space to connect with nature, camp, and learn. This is not your average campground, so i make sure to look over the rules. They will be enforced to keep a tranquil vibe. Restore and Explore We’re committed to revitalizing native habitats—our land is a living example of ecological renewal. Wander scenic trails, enjoy wildlife, and witness the power of restoration in action. Sustainable Farming and Livestock Our animals play a key role in regeneration. Horses, sheep, goats, turkeys, and chickens help manage invasive weeds and maintain healthy ecosystems. We compost all their manure, turning waste into valuable resources for soil health. Camping and Community Camp under the stars, explore nature, and join us for seasonal events and workshops focused on sustainability, conservation, and community. Whether you're here to camp, hike, or volunteer, Okihi is a place where nature and people come together for a common cause. Okihi is more than a destination—it's a living example of land restoration, sustainable living, and the power of community. Come explore, learn, and make a difference! Okihi is approximately 15 minutes east of Downtown Bakersfield. 20 minutes away from the 99 hwy or 178 hwy. Whichever way you are traveling, we are a great stopover point. Sites are spread around on the east side of the property facing the river for beautiful river views while you sip coffee from your site. There are a multitude of recreation opportunities to enjoy. On site there is hiking, places to practice yoga or meditate, kayaking, paddle boarding. We also have a hammock veranda that is fully shaded and a great place to relax along the river. Miles of biking paths run on the road right by where we are situated and there is a nearby river rafting company if you want the white water experience. Most of our campers are road tripping, getting away from LA, or are looking for a stopover on their way to/from Yosemite, Sequoia, Joshua Tree, etc. We are in a desert climate – cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Portable heaters or fans with misting options are available for rent.

Spots perfect! If you have kids, this place is a hit too! They have sheep goats n horses that you can pet and even feed if you check with the host first…. Right next to the river so perfect for the hot weather. Our spot had a pair of owls living in the tree that was on our site. Super cool for my girls to experience nature and not far from the city in case you gotta make a quick run to the store. Looking forward to our next trip here! Katherine is super nice and honestly makes you feel welcomed so great vibes overall.

Quiet getaway on the Kern River

We were looking for a camping type experience, but didn't want to lug all the gear with us. So we stayed in one of the rvs. It was fantastic! They have done a great job with restoring some of the native plant life. The farm animals were really fun, and there were lots of wild animals as well. We saw lots of squirrels and rabbits. And heard lots of different birds, including a great horned owl! We chose to stay here because we were also going to Sharktooth Hill aka Ernst Quarry. Al in all a great stay!

Nestled by the beautiful Kern River only minutes from the City of Bakersfield lies the hidden gem that is Okihi. We recently enjoyed two relaxing days and nights at this tranquil and serene place. The accommodations were excellent and Katherine was an amazing host. We had fun exploring the grounds, hanging out by the river and getting to know the animals. Who knew such a cool place was right here in our backyard! We’ll definitely be returning to recharge ourselves soon. We highly recommend Okihi to anyone wanting to do the same.

Host was kind! I actually forgot to get gas and she graciously gave me some gas so I had enough to get to station. Rv was clean and well stocked with everything you could need Heater works well, most important thing lol. . Gas fireplace was nice at night. Right on the river and perfect for a fun little adventure.

The host was very nice and so was the caretaker. The animals are so friendly and beautiful. The bathroom was super clean but the grounds could have been cleaner. There was trash on the ground when walking around. Not a big deal. The first night there was a soccer game across the river that kept us up. It’s also closer to a road than expected and you can hear cars. Just be aware if you want to get to sleep early if there is a soccer game it was loud.

Bakersfield has no idea what a gem exists here at Okihi! Just 20 minutes from downtown, you'd never know it as you feel transported to paradise. I've visited Okihi several times, and the vibes are absolutely perfect. The views of the river, sunrises, and sunsets are unforgettable - truly a treasure! The property is teeming with life: goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, horses, native gardens, and natural flora and fauna abound. We even spotted two bald eagles relaxing in a giant tree directly across the river. We had the pleasure of watching Katherine ride her horse, Basil, and feed the animals. It was such a treat to see her guide the sheep and goats from their temporary pasture to their nighttime enclosure, where they're watched over by the dutiful Sky, their guardian dog. There are several accommodation options: bring your own tent, stay at the Riverview glampsite, or rent one of their trailers. We chose a trailer to celebrate New Year's Eve with friends. The outdoor setup is perfect with chairs, benches, and a fire pit. Inside, the trailer is adorably decorated and sleeps 5 comfortably. There's a queen bed, two single beds, and a pull-out couch - though it was just us two this time, we can't wait to bring our kids!
