Mystic Canyon Inn

We stayed in the Tipi and we found the property charming but not as nice as the photos made it seem. There’s a lot of clutter around the property and it doesn’t seem very well maintained. Lots of spider webs everywhere, there was a cockroach in my suitcase(fyi don’t leave your suitcase on the floor), only one bathroom for multiple guests and they have 3 chickens which sound like little dinosaurs in the morning and throughout the day. The shower floor is starting to crumble and fall apart but with all that said I’d still recommend this place. The muffins, coffee, fridge and outdoor kitchen were a nice touch and good place to hang out and enjoy a meal. Overall we had a good experience and slept well.

If you love nature, you will love the place - it is out of no where. Peace and quiet, and Barbara and her husband was very nice to have muffin & oatmeal for breakfast every morning. 30-40 mins away from downtown San Diego and Coronado beach

Pros: Room was comfortable enough. Kitchen is well equipped however you need to make sure you clean them before use. Host gives complimentary fresh muffins, instant oatmeal, coffee/tea which is very nice of her. She and her husband are welcoming. Cons: The surroundings looks cluttered or maybe just not my type of space. Close to the road where cars passes by so not much solitude. A good stay but not something I can recommend personally.

So beautiful and cozy!

I loved this stay!! It was fully outfitted and cozy for a night while in nomadic mode ❤️ I stayed in the tipi and it was chilly in Jan but that was expected:) had heated blankets and a heater! Loved the morning spread too. Love it!

The Hobbit home is so cozy. The mountains in the area are gorgeous. My husband really enjoyed chatting with Barbaras husband. We will definitely be back!

December stay

Pleasant setting in the quiet countryside outside of San Diego. The cool, fresh air of the outdoor kitchen added to the ambience as we enjoyed our coffee, oatmeal, and muffins. Our Hobbit Hole had a portable heater for winter, bring your flannel or fleece pajamas to help stay warm.

Just Go, Trust Me!

First time using Hipcamp, and this property was such a gem that I feel it will be extremely hard to one up. The ultimate glamping experience with all the essentials included. Running water, toilets that flush, hot shower, ac, plenty of electrical plugs, kitchen, areas to lounge, and beautiful views. But let’s not forget the star of the show - The Hobbit House! The creativity and attention to detail is unmatched. Lord of the Rings themed trippy cottage with surprises hidden in the nooks and crannies. Homemade muffins and instant oats in the morning to seal the deal for an epic bed n breakfast finish. Barbara greeted us upon arrival and was incredibly welcoming but also very hands off so you could enjoy the property for a thorough get away. Easy drive into the property and not far from civilization. Got a good amount of mosquito bites and saw a massive spider, so prepare for those types of things. This spot was so cool it’s almost surreal. Can’t wait to come back.

We had two great nights at Barbara’s place. The barn was clean and had everything we needed. The bathroom was clean and she also offered towels. We didn’t use the outdoor kitchen but it looked great and fully equipped. I didn’t try her homemade muffins and instant oats but it looked amazing and it’s a great gesture. We liked the layed back atmosphere and the fact that it was outside the city. We can recommend it 100%.

A unique place to stay in a Tipi!

Love the place has everything like home. Kitchen, bath and shower. Quiet and lots of small fun things to do. The Tipi is very hot in summer daytime. But will cool down at night. It's a very memorable experience. Very close to San Diego beaches and parks. We love the museums. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. Breakfasts are amazing. Thank you!

10/10 would recommend to anyone who enjoys unique accommodations that are outdoorsy with the comforts of home. It's difficult to describe this property; It's not camping, but it's also not a BnB. There's a complete outdoor kitchen with full fridge, any type of cookware you need, tons of appliances, propane range, a community pantry, utensils and tableware, a full sink, etc. You likely don't need to bring anything except food, because Barbara has it all! The Hobbit House was perfect for my child and me. The full bed was comfortable with provided bedding a pillows. We loved the decor, especially the UV tapestries. The AC worked beautifully. I plan on returning to the Hobbit House with both my child and spouse. I hope to make this a new family tradition! We also got to spend time in the mini barn, as it was rented by my frelatives. The AC worked well in their room, and there was space on floor to play games and hang out. That room had a TV with a few streaming apps and a selection of DVDs. The property has numerous lounge areas and activities to enjoy. Barbara made the most delicious muffins and instant oatmeal each morning. Best instant oatmeal I've ever had! Also be aware that you will see critters (think friendly spiders, lizards, mosquitoes, bugs...). All normal creatures that are to be expected and embraced. The detail and thoughtfulness at Mystic Canyon are unmatched and appears that additions/improvements are constantly being made. Don't hesitate to stay here!

Mystic Canyon Bungalow Cabin

I brought my family here to stay in the barn and our family friends stayed in the Hobbit room. It has a great layout for joining up with friends with many shared spaces (kitchen, courtyard, star gazing balcony, workshop, etc). We enjoyed the muffins and oatmeal in the mornings. The a/c in the units made this a friendly spot for a hot summer camping trip in comfort. Bring earplugs because the window AC unit has to work hard to cool the small space making it a little noisy at night.

I had the BEST time here. The hosts were perfect. The location was absolutely amazing and honestly I didn't want to leave. The homemade and fresh muffins and oatmeal every morning were such a nice touch. I have zero complaint about my stay and would recommend this location (anywhere on the property really! wish i could have stayed in the hobbit house it's so cool) to anyone!

I love this hobbit hut!

This was such an amazing experience! Such a cute hobbit hut, I wish we stayed longer. Communication was good throughout as well. I’d love to come back next time we’re in the area! If you want a neat little experience, you should stay here!

The most unique, pleasant and memorable place I’ve ever stayed. The site is stunning, not just for the views and location but for how beautifully designed and cared for it is.. Barbara does an amazing job, from the home baked muffins every morning, to the kind hospitality she offers, to the attention she pays to every inch of her property. I’ve never stayed somewhere like this and wish we had more time to soak in the entire vibe.

Hobbit House!

Mystic Canyon Bungalow Cabin

This place was amazing! It’s the best place I’ve stayed at on hipcamp, in terms of cabin camping. The hobbit house itself is delightful, lots of fun things to discover once inside (hidden window, blacklight nightlight) and the outside door is so nicely designed, we really felt like a couple of hobbits! The community kitchen area is expansive with lots of pots/utensils to choose from and a few different stoves for cooking. And just walking around the complex is a joy, there are several other cabins connected by paths all with their own unique designs. The community shower/bathroom was great, and the hot tub felt luxurious after hiking all day. I’d highly recommend checking this place out, we’d definitely love to come back!

Colombian girls’ adventure in a ⛺️

We loved the beautiful and unique Tipi on Barbara’s land. The views were pretty and enough space to 2 people. It was a beautiful adventure and a perfect place to enjoy around San Diego low cost and safe. For sure will repeat the experience at there! Lau and Vale from Colombia 🇨🇴
