This land has been a community gathering space for the Native's Ceremony and Healing Space for over a thousand years. Feast your eyes upon the Matates and traces of the people that once gathered here so long ago. Upon the mid 1800's we had a Settler named Nate Harrison find this to be the ideal space, and he set up homestead here, and lived an amazing full life. He was to become the first African American to aquire land here in San Diego County, and his homestead remains to this day; studied by archaeology students to this day. Sensitive habitat and magic lies within our gates, and we must approach the mountain as we would any sacred space; with RESPECT. We welcome you to enjoy Nate's land and inspire who you are deep inside your heart.

Camping at Harrison Serenity Ranch
If you are looking for a rustic historic camp site with water and bathrooms and great views available it is a place to see. The road is rough. 6 miles up. Bumpy, narrow and dirt road mix in spots. Camp has a very dusty and oak tree wood feel. You know, leaves, weeds, shade. Host Kari is awesome. If your up for an adventure off the beaten path or on your way to the observatory the long way up this historic road to Palomar mountain this might be the stop you need on your way. Peace. L.

Serenity Under The Stars!
We always enjoy our camping getaways at Nate Harrison's Serenity Ranch! It was our 4th time staying there and we will be back again. The dispersed camping site we reserved was perfect for our rooftop tent. As usual, the star filled sky and views from the property did not disappoint!

The drive in is beautiful, the location is great, but so many bugs, we did not prepare well for the bugs. Will try to return in a different season

Camping at Harrison Serenity Ranch
Beautiful space, Unbearable Bugs
I’ll start by saying the positives which is that the space was absolutely beautiful and staff were very friendly, helpful, and responsive. Our campsite had an amazing view, and it was so nice to have access to a full bathroom and shower. HOWEVER, we could not enjoy this beautiful space because we were absolutely SWARMED by flies, sweat bees, honeybees, gnats, and mosquitoes from 7am to 9pm. They were RELENTLESS. One of our group members had to use an EpiPen due to going into shock from multiple bee stings. Bug spray and fire smoke did not help at all. We walked around the campsite thinking maybe it was just our site, but unfortunately we could not find relief from the bugs. I’ve never had such a horrendous all-day experience with insects, and I’ve been an avid camper/hiker for decades. We were even experiencing phantom flies at night because of being so overstimulated by the swarming. On top of all this, the heat was also exhausting. Maybe it was the time of year that we went (end of June), but I just cannot recommend this place due to being swarmed, bit, and stung by multiple types of bugs. It’s a shame because the scenery really is beautiful. We will not be returning.

The camp coordinator Kari was excellent at showing the camp availability-great hospitality as well. Easy to reach if I had a question.
