Welcome to High Desert Protocol, a serene 6-acre sanctuary nestled within the stunning Joshua Tree landscape. At the heart of this desert oasis lies an impressive 80-foot swimming pool and jacuzzi, seamlessly blending into the untouched surroundings. With the property adjacent to expansive public land, guests can enjoy unobstructed views that stretch for miles. This private and expansive compound is ideal for intimate gatherings, retreats, dinner parties, or simply a peaceful escape for those who seek style, seclusion, and an unparalleled desert experience. The property features two guest rental houses and a charming vintage Spartan Trailer, all available for booking via Airbnb or our website. Guests are invited to indulge in all the amenities the compound offers, including a spacious outdoor kitchen with a 20-foot concrete dining table, an outdoor bathroom, an art gallery, a hot tub, the swimming pool, and, of course, the breathtaking desert vistas. For those seeking unique accommodations, we offer two RV hookups and options to rent an on-site Airstream, a Teardrop trailer, a converted shipping container, a van, or even a sailboat with a stunning wooden interior. Additionally, guests have immediate access to hundreds of miles of trails, allowing them to explore the natural beauty of Joshua Tree right from the property—no need to drive anywhere!

Bring your own tent and sleep under the desert stars on a private 6 acre compound. You get access to a shared pool and hot tub in a creative and communal environment. PLEASE NOTE BEFORE MESSAGING/BOOKING: The entire property is 18+ (no kids allowed) and the pool/hot tub area is clothing optional. It’s a 6 acre property with multiple rentals so the pool is shared with whomever has rented accommodations (including us, who live here), it is not open to the general public. Sometimes there are many guests, sometimes there are none at all. Beautiful hikes. 20ft concrete table with fully stocked shared outdoor kitchen available for your use. Creative, calm, communal place to connect with nature and other interesting humans. It's dispersed camping, so you can pick your camping spot! The most space and always available location being at the entrance of the property in a spacious dirt lot. Please be mindful to not set up camp in designated RV sites or too close to rental houses, both marked with signs. Please do not block any roads with tents or vehicles. Be aware there is a security camera pointed at the entrance to the parking lot, for privacy, camp passed the two trees in the center of the lot. A public semi-outdoor restroom and cold-water shower is also available for your use. Located in a tin building attached to a small house with a green roof, marked as "WC". Be warned we are up a dirt road that sometimes gets ruts from rain wash. Sedans without 4wd make it frequently, but drive with caution.

Hike, Swim, and Rest at the Best!
The Gallery
This property is amazing! So much to explore and enjoy. The Gallery experienced some weather damage from rainstorms prior to my visit, so the team at HDP upgraded me to the Robin's Egg, which was extremely generous. The accommodations were excellent, with so much cool art and media to explore. I enjoyed the clawfoot tub as well as the many patios to step outside onto. I spent time during both evenings of my stay in the hot tub, under the stars. So nice to meet fellow travelers in there, as well as enjoy alone time. Both mornings, I walked the trails behind the property, taking in the views (including many Joshua Trees!) The road up to the property is unpaved but in good condition. My SUV handled it fine. The communication from the team beforehand, during, and after was informative.

I loved the whole experience this place has to offer. The tent area was perfect for a small set up all to ourselves. The pool and hot tub area was a 10/10 experience as well. Plus we didn’t have to worry about our food because the outdoor kitchen was everything we could’ve asked for.

Silverstreak
The property has good energy, beautiful star gazing, with Joshua trees illuminated at night. The pool and hot tub, has a fantastic Mountain View. The Quonset hut has a nice bathroom and shower, even eucalyptus leaves hanging, a color energy tarot, and crystal corner. You can roam up trails and have a peaceful, good vibe disconnect, but really a reconnect with nature, yourself. Loved that it’s close to Joshua tree, I’ll be back! The desert as we know cools off at night, so bring warm wear. Thank for a nice stay, and I look forward to another stay!

Spartan Imperial Mansion Trailer
This place is fantastic! I stayed in the Spartan because I had my two small dogs with me and I didn't want to stay in a tent with them. The bed was very comfortable and the site even had it's own little fire pit with chairs and a grill. The overall facilities were lovely. It was too cold to get in the pool, but I'd love to come back when it is a little warmer to try it out.

This is a really interesting property in a beautiful area very close to Joshua Tree NP. The tent camping options are expensive and more limited than we expected, either in the parking lot or if you can find a patch big enough for your tent between cacti away from the parking lot. The cabins on property look like better options (more privacy and space). The hot tub was great as it was quite cold when we were there, the pool while pretty was not heated so unusable in winter. Would recommend the property overall but disappointed in the lack of space and privacy and the cost of the tent camping.

Amazing location. Feels really remote despite not being, so much. Dark skies, beautiful sunsets. I stayed in the Gallery and was super comfortable there for a week. The hot tub was excellent.

The hot tub, pool, fire pit, shower/bathroom, and shared kitchen were excellent. All the other guests were super friendly and we enjoyed chatting with them in the hot tub and over a campfire. We found a great secluded spot to pitch a tent. Good location, about 45 mins drive from both Joshua Tree and PS. Would definitely come back and bring friends!

Amazing property and exceptional service from Tao and everyone at The High Desert Protocal. We stayed in the Silverstreak and loved how vintage it was. We felt like we we're back in the 70's in the best way. All the amenities, dog friendly, communal kitchen, clean bathrooms and shower, beautiful pool and hot tub, hiking footsteps away I really can't say enough. Perfect getaway from the city BS. We can't wait to come back

Taos property makes for a good last minute campsite. The property and directions about where to camp is a little confusing at first. The camping is mostly confined to a shared parking lot with an additional upper lot which requires a high clearance vehicle to access. It also takes a little bit of route finding to get to the common areas like the pool, hot tub and kitchen. The quonset hut has a funky new age vibe There's a bathroom inside that look straight out of a swanky hotel. I used the fire pit and was told in advance that I should bring my own firewood. Despite a thousand candles in the Quonset Hut, I could not find a lighter anywhere so be sure to bring a lighter with you to the fire pit. It was a good experience overall if camping in Joshua Tree is booked up.

Awesome and unique spot, even better than expected! Pool/hottub and communal areas are beautiful and the view is nuts. Lots of thoughtful touches. The other guests were friendly, kind, and respectful. My only feedback would be that the hottub was only on for a few hours each night, in the winter it would be really nice to have access to take a dip in the morning or at least a few more hours! So happy to have found a spot to frolic in the desert sans clothes. Will definitely be back :)

Nice spot in the hills adjacent to tons of joshua trees and cactuses. Nice hike up the hill above the pool. Trailer is very cute with lots of windows. They maintained the old look with antiques. Trailer has everything you need to cook. They have a tiny space heater but a bit chilly in Jan. It has a shower but the showers have hotter water in the main communal building and they are really fancy/pretty. Main building has a tv and piano as well! I imagine the pool is nice during the summer. Its lined up with a view of a snowy peak but the jacuzzi was never above luke warm temp both days we were there. I didn't reach out to them about it while i was there though. Nice spot overall.

Spartan Imperial Mansion Trailer
Overall the property and the hosts are really lovely. FYI only for those staying in the spartan trailer, the location was still great; however inside the trailer has definitely seen better days; it would benefit from some small maintenance updates and a deep clean. We didn’t mind but it was a bit of a shock compared to the photos. That said, the proximity to fantastic hiking at Joshua Tree and the pool/jacuzzi were fantastic!

From interest in the site to booking and staying the night our experience with Tao was timely and seamless. We found the site easily, parked and quickly relaxed in the hot tub. The site was creative, truly unique in the middle of the high desert. Rain fell for a bit, allowing us to take in the scent of creosote. The moon was full! We had a lovely stay and would return.

The Library
Tao's land is so magical surrounded by the desert hill landscape. It is flowing with good energy. The homes are intentionally decorated with meaning behind every piece. Ive stayed in one of the trailers and in the main house. The pool is one of a kind. I'd be honored to return to this property.

Dew Drop - Cozy Retro Trailer

High Desert Protocol Camp
Had a great time. Outdoor kitchen was very well stocked. Pool was refreshing and clean. It was quiet in the evening. Beautiful views. Road is pretty rough but as described. Would visit again.

I have been to a lot of amazing places in my life, many of them in the desert. High Desert Protocol is one of my new favorites and I look forward to getting back there soon. I would highly recommend Tao's place for anyone looking for a unique experience where one can relax and unwind in an amazing natural setting enhanced by a creative visionary.

We really loved staying at Desert Protocol. It was super peaceful and full of great views, a wonderful hot tub and nice people. We didn’t use the outdoor kitchen, but it was amazing. We will be back!

I really enjoyed this campsite. I definitely recommend arriving in the daylight! All of the communal areas are so beautiful. My dog and I hiked up the mountain, prepared breakfast in the outdoor kitchen and swam and ate out by the beautiful pool. The bathroom area is perfect! The outdoor bathroom has trees growing through the roof. I wish we could have stayed longer!

The Gallery
Great alternative to the depressing Motels and Hotels in the area. Bohemienne vibe and great for open minded people who are not afraid of experiencing something different. Nestled in the desert hills with total silence and great star watching. Probably best in warmer season, as to be able to use BBQs outside and the pool. Dirt road to reach location a bit challenging if it rains. But definitely a great gem and so close to Joshua Tree West Entrance.
