Back to basics with endless desert sky. Hike giant rock sculptures, gather petrified wood, maybe find the hidden pond or seasonal Little Colorado to splash in . Bathed in the Canyon's ethereal ambiance, powdery views of Navajo Plateau and snowy San Francisco Peaks await. This is “Stone Soup,” in honor of unique geology and a folktale where everyone brings something to make a whole greater than its parts. A hut, built with love during musical campouts, materials are recycled from building sites may be available, on a first-come first serve basis, but please don't count on anything being there but the open land and sky. There are 40 acres to explore and camp on. You can follow the property boundaries, or just head straight out from the hut away from the road or on the other side of the road for at least half a mile and camp anywhere. You can drive all over the land in a regular vehicle and find your spot. If you do use the hut, please leave it in better shape than you found it. Same with the land. Here is my vision: Adventurous, creative, nature-loving kindred souls can converge on these 40 acres and bring what they need but also share with one another (the stone soup spirit). Although you do need to take in and out everything (water, food, bedding...) and there is no outhouse at the moment (dunes for some privacy, and thinly bury your waste), you can drive anywhere on the land and have what you need in your vehicle. It sometimes gets windy, so car-camping is recommended over tents, though you can also bring your RV. Basically at the moment, this is an isolated, wild campsite, with total peace and quiet but where you bring everything. There is no running water, cooking supplies, or toilet. You may find firewood further down the road, and can have a fire anytime, but nothing is supplied. You will need to take your trash with you. The photos are not up to date and still show amenities that are not there. The hut may be available, but it is just a structure with no door. Also note that there is no way to get there with Google maps/ GPS coordinate. I will send detailed directions if you book, but you probably want to arrive with some daylight. If prepared to rough it, it's a gorgeous site with open sky, amazing views, stars, rocks, and silence.Gorgeous views, unique high desert landscape, hikes with caves, river, and petrified wood, and a spirit of community where we all bring our good vibes, share food, play music together and leave the place in better shape than we found it—this is the Stone Soup vision! We would love for you to connect with other kindred spirits camping there and gather around the campfire at night, and because there are 40 acres, you can drive off and find your own spot, too. It would be nice to have a main fire by the hut, and you can use and anything you find at no extra charge it if it's not already occupied and if you leave it in better shape than you found it. You can also drive off and have your own camp under the amazing stars and your own campfire. I often sleep out under the open sky. It is cold in winter and can get windy, though. Please respect one another The site is 40 acres and can accommodate big groups, multiple groups, and RVs too. There may be other campers unless you reserve the whole site for $60/night. Let me know if interested. Please carry in and carry out everything you need. It is off-grid with no running water, heat, or toilet (shovel and dunes). Also, possibility of musical, writing, and Earth-based spirituality workshops led by Kate, or to co-organize if you have a leader or idea - reach out if interested. Reasons to stay, in a few words: -Peace, quiet, and total escape -Ecology and good vibes -Solitude, intimacy, and authentic connection -Views! -Artistic, musical, literary creation, rock-gathering, photography, meditation… Away from the touristy side of the Grand Canyon (less than an hour from visitor's center) hike down the Tanner Trail, stop to buy crafts and food from Navajo artisans along the road, and the next day splash in the seasonal Little Colorado near Stone Soup, watch the wild horses, then come home and make a campfire and howl with the coyotes in this unique and sacred high desert spot.
