The Sandhill Cranes are Back! We purchased our 20 acre homestead 16 years ago. The buildings were unlivable and land was overgrazed , but the windmill and sweet water well gave promise. We have been Restoring the land, allowing its native habitat to thrive. We now have a Year round vegetable garden, honeybees, orchard and grape vines. The adobe home and outbuildings and Sandhill (Crane) casita are restored with all recycle materials from the property. The 1.5 mile nature trail through grassland ,yucca and mesquite landscape provides solitude and 360 degree views of the sky islands in US and Mexico. Learn more about this land: Flat, well maintained, Paved road accesses our 20 acre private wildlife sanctuary. Boundary of Chihuahua and upper Sonoran deserts , 4100 feet, high desert, yucca , mesquite, grasslands. One of the top migratory birding regions in North America. Excellent windmill pumped water and a 1.5 mile walking nature trail. Heated and cooled casita (sleeps 2). Outdoor hot shower, compost toilet, outdoor fire pit and tables, games include corn hole and bocci at your door. Expansive views of 7 Sky Island mountain ranges and dark sky celestial wonder. Adjacent to globally significant Whitewater Draw wildlife refuge. 15 miles to historic Bisbee Arizona . Great climate.

Wonderful Sandhill Casita

We absolutely loved our stay at Sandhill Casita. The cozy quarters, the yard, the birds, and especially the host. We were made to feel very welcome here. If you love birding this place is a must. The yard is full of beautiful birds then it's only a 14 min drive to Whitewater Draw for even more variety of birds. I can't say enough good things about this place and the host. Hope we get the chance to visit this place again. Many blessings

Wonderful home, wonderful host! Make sure you're okay with an outdoor shower and bathroom (shower had great hot water and starry skies). Birds outside are a treat, and very comfortable inside even on warm days. We felt right at home

I loved the birds and tranquility of the place! The casita has everything you need for a short and/or minimalist stay and is quite comfortable. The outdoor toilet and shower added to the experience (just take note of booking in the winter). I would definitely stay here again.

Gorgeous property with so many birds and a nice nature trail, also conveniently located for getting around the region and only 15 minutes from Whitewater Draw! The casita is very cute but I hadn't realized that both the toilet and shower are outdoors, so be prepared for that (and bring your own towel/shoes to walk back and forth).

Peaceful and Cozy

So much peace and beauty! We loved our stay here and cannot wait to come back. We came down for the Sandhill cranes but had so much fun birding on the trails around the ranch. We enjoyed the listening to a Great Horned Owl in the evenings and a sky full of stars. Definitely a perfect stay if you want to be closer to nature and have comfortable amenities.

Barbara and Harrys place is highly recommended. Its a unique experience on land clearly loved by the hosts. Thoughtfully and beautifully decorated in a simple way, this casita will make you haopy. And if you really want to get happy bicycle down to Whitewater to experience the life energy of 1000s of sandhill cranes. We need more places in the world like this one. Inanna and Gary

Sycamore Tent or Glamp Camp
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Harry and Barbara’s camp spot. We were able to camp under perfectly shaded sycamore trees, the bathroom and outdoor shower were in perfect condition. Harry and Barbara welcomed us, were there if we needed them, and were very fun the chat with. And last but certainly not least…the wildlife on their property was fantastic! Jack rabbits, quails, red and gold birds, and so much more. Highly recommend this site if you ever want to camp near the Chiricahuas!

30+ bird species outside our door

My partner and I quickly fell in love with this beautiful property and comfortable casita. If you love nature, especially birds, this is the place to stay. We saw 30 bird species at the well-stocked feeding/watering stations the hosts provide, and we enjoyed sunset/sunrise strolls along the on-site nature trails. The lodging was comfortable and well-appointed -- it felt like luxury after our prior nights camping. The outdoor shower was hot. The composting toilet was very clean and odor free. We enjoyed meeting the wonderful, generous hosts who restored the property to its current natural state. Well done! We regret having to move on so soon and look forward to returning.

Artful farmscape teeming with birds

This is a gem of a spot. Off the tourist trail, this casita is testament to a simple lifestyle curated with a true eye for offering guests an authentic and organic experience. I wish we had more time to just soak it all in. In our short visit on an uncustomary windy rainy day, we still spotted nearly 2 dozen bird species.

What a lovely camp! We stayed in the Casita. Horses and bees on-site. Nice 1.5 mile trail to follow. Saw rabbits and sooo many birds. Kitchen was more than anticipated! Dishes, utensils, hot water heater, pots/pan with lids. Little heater under the sink was a champ! Really warmed the room. Appreciated the deck of cards and books available. And loved the candles and fresh flowers! Gotta love Spring! Very special place and I’m grateful that Harry and Barbara are willing to share! Hope to visit again!

Harry & Barbara's place was lovely! The bed was very comfortable and they had a heater running when we arrived and stayed plenty comfortable all night! We got to heard coyotes howling at night and we walked on their trails to watch the sunrise in the morning. We also enjoyed watching all the birds and rabbits! I wish we could have stayed longer - beautiful place! Highly recommend!

Great place, great location near hiking (Chiricachua), Bisbee, White water draw, Tombstone... Fun birding right outside the windows with friendly welcoming hosts. We would stay there again!

This spot was a perfect getaway for my husband and me. The casita is so welcoming and it’s surroundings are incredibly calming and beautiful. We loved every minute there and only wish we could have stayed longer. We hope to be able to have another visit in the future!

We had a wonderful time, the casita was all we had hoped for. The decor with beautiful woven rugs and intricately crafted baskets was warm and inviting. The kitchenettes had everything we needed. Composting toilet and the outdoor shower added to the charm of the experience. Harry and Barbara were great hosts, keeping the bird-feeders stocked where we could observe such a diversity of birds from our windows and the private outdoor area by the fire-pit. The town of Bisbee is close by and has great restaurants, art and music and very friendly people who love where they live as much as Harry and Barbara do. The bird sanctuary is a 10 minute drive away and there is great hiking nearby. We would absolutely recommend the casita and are planning to come back next year.

Harry and Barbara were wonderful hosts: friendly, warm, and welcoming. Their knowledge of local trails and wildlife was vast and they directed me to the Whitewater Draw where I witnessed thousands of sandhill cranes in migration. The photos I got were truly amazing! The casita itself was quiet, clean, and well maintained with ample opportunity for privacy and reflection. The bed was definitely high quality and I had a great night's sleep. I would highly recommend this location for anyone who is looking for a beautiful place to relax and enjoy nature. My only regret is that I couldn't stay longer. Can't wait to return!
