Great location! Close enough to gray sand dunes NP and very easy to find. Was mostly alone - could see other campers but not close enough to hear or be bothered by them. Very nice sight with great space - beautiful views and far from other groups - felt very remote, in a good way! But very close to highway

We loved this campsite! It was just what we needed. Not too far from the main road but far away enough to feel out in nature. Amazing views of the sunrise and sunset and even got to see some deer! Highly recommend this site!

This was my first hip camp experience. We used it as a home base for 2 days to do some hiking at rio grande del Norte. I Thoroughly enjoyed staying here. 360 views are breathtaking. Very peaceful and lots of space between you and other camp sites Definitely hoping to stay here again

This was our 3rd time at Mono Loco Flats + our favorite. In late September, the mountains are dotted with gold + orange and the weather was beautiful. We can’t wait to come back next year!

Gorgeous views with mountains all the way around and lovely sunrises and sunsets, just as the description says! You can see the highway and some other houses not too far off in the distance, so during the day it doesn’t feel completely secluded, but it’s private enough and the camp feels very isolated and peaceful at night. There are cacti mixed into the plants surrounding the site, so not ideal for exploration beyond the small clearing, but the site itself is well maintained in a perfect level circle and clear of hazards. It’s the perfect stop for a chill home base and good night’s rest! I enjoyed my time there and the serenity the surrounding land provided.

My new fiance and I went tent camping here. Mario was very helpful and the directions were super clear, even coming back at night. He gave us good recommendations for fishing and a website to visit for weather updates. We stayed at sight 2, if you're a light sleeper, maybe choose site three, as with ours we were able to hear the highway, but it was far off noise. We are heavy sleepers, so it didn't bother us one bit. We would absolutely recommend staying here if you want amazing views, sunsets, a place to eat at and firewood for you when you arrive. We will definitely be back the next time we are passing through.

The site was easy to find and beautiful. We were really impressed with the tidy and flat, rock-lined camping area with wood already in the firepit for us. There are only three sites, which are spaced quite far from each other for privacy. The stars were amazing in the clear un-lit sky. We would definitely go back.

Directions to get to the site was easy to follow. Beautiful view of the mountains and pretty night sky. Perfect location near the Sand Dunes. There was some traffic noise at night, but got less and less as the night went on. I would recommend the stay!

Stayed at the Mesa site and it was beautiful! The view of the mountains were incredible and the sunset/sunrise was pretty spectacular! Mario was a great host and answered any questions I had about the spot and things to do in the area. This is a great spot if you want to visit the Sand Dunes, but don't want to stay in the crowded campsites in the park that are very close together. The drive is 40 min to the dunes, but it wasn't too bad for having some more quiet at the camp spot! (Just note you can hear the highway a bit from the spot but was able to turn on music and couldn't hear it anymore. Super convenient though to the highway for going to the dunes so that was nice!) One thing I will note that is super important in the summer months, is to bring a canopy! I stayed in August so this spot was very hot and has no shade. I also want to mention the whole surrounding area of the spot is covered in cacti. This was a little challenging with having a dog with me. I originally thought we could walk around in the sage brush a little bit but unfortunately it was impossible due to the cacti everywhere. It was also hard to even get to the trash bin with all the cacti. I would definitely bring closed-toed shoes for camp! Otherwise this spot was great and highly recommend it!

We stayed at Site 1 The Mesa and the views were amazing! The camp site is well kept, easy to find, and secluded enough to feel like you’re alone. Photos do not do this site justice, it is absolutely beautiful! The site is close enough to town for a beer run or to visit a local diner.
Mario is a quick communicator and answered my many, many questions, as well as helped me when I had issues with my account.
My only piece of advice is make sure you have an awning or pop up shade for during the day, you will need it!

Very cool campsite. Amazing views of the mountains and we got to see a great sunset and sunrise. There’s a fire ring with a bench and another bench on the other side of the campsite to sit and relax on. The ground was flat and clean for our tent. Only downside was the little bit of noise from cars passing by on the highway in the distance but we didn’t mind it.

This was our third year returning back to Mono Loco Flats. This campsite is wonderful and the stars are beautiful at night. The hand crafted picnic table is a great addition that has arrived since we last visited site 1. The 3 sites are far enough apart that you still have a sense of having the property to yourself even when there are other campers. Mario is an awesome host! We will absolutely be back again!

Excellent location within easy driving distance of Great Sand Dunes NP. The scenery is amazing with Mountain Views on all sides. We liked that there were only three sites making it very private. The stars at night were amazing and definitely a plus!

We had a fantastic experience staying at Mono Loco Flats. Waking up to the Alpenglow on Mt Blanca, surrounded by sagebrush, was a beautiful setting.
The location is perfect for anyone exploring the Great Sand Dunes National Park, just a short drive away. There are also plenty of trails nearby for hiking in the Sangre De Cristo's
The campsite itself was clean and comfortable. We loved the custom picnic table and the large firepit. Nights were peaceful and quiet, with clear skies perfect for stargazing.
We highly recommend this campsite for anyone exploring the San Juan Valley. We will be back!

Beautiful spot that was easy to navigate to given Mario’s clear directions. Despite its proximity to the highway, it felt secluded and peaceful. It’s evident a lot of care went into carving out the spots in this unique landscape. Be prepared for wind! On our last night, out of seemingly nowhere, heavy gusts came through snapping one of our tent poles, making sure it was a camping trip we wouldn’t soon forget as two people and a dog slept in the back of our car. Despite the momentary chaos caused by Mother Nature, we’d be happy to come back!
