A hidden gem nestled between the comforts of lake living and a backdoor to the expansive Nicolet National Forest. Recreational opportunities are year-round, including recreational vehicle and fishing opportunities on and around the 417 acre lake flowage. The private +2 acre property has panoramic views of the secluded headwaters opening into the main flowage. Set back off the main lake, wildlife viewing, especially birding, is the best I have experienced. Neotropical migratory bird species are abundant in the Spring as well as a resident breeding pair of Trumpeter Swans, many ducks(!), Bald Eagles, Loons, Sand-Hill cranes; many woodpecker spp. including Pileated; Screech, Barred and Great horned owls. Some of the more entertaining wildlife include deer, otter, beaver, muskrats, red squirrels and the occasional wandering black bear (no problem bears). In the Spring, the esker's neighboring wetlands come alive with many frog and turtle species. For me, the allure of the wild still dominates here. The esker provides an amazing vantage point with nearly 270 degree panoramic views of the flowage. From the Gazebo, take one of two paths to the overlook before descending down to the lakefront. In 2021, I plan on adding a short pier but the natural rocky peninsula already provides excellent access into the deeper thalweg, an excellent fishing/ swimming hole! All pontoon and fishing boats can be accommodated here. Learn more about this land:The property is located towards the end of a Forest Service road (Meadowlark Lane) with one year-round resident at the end. There's a large turn-around for trailers and larger vehicles. Neighbors are well separated, located over the ridgeline and out of earshot. The property has a relatively wide, flat 100 foot driveway to the cabin from the road. Easy access to the cabin from the driveway. The cabin is surrounded by mature maple/birch/balsam/hemlock forest and several wetland/tamarack bogs (very diverse terrain bordering the lake). At the base of the cabin there's a small pier for direct kayak and canoe access. Larger boats can easily dock on the lake-end of the property, a short walk from the cabin. From the natural driveway a concrete paver staircase leads up to the main campsite (see pics). The campsite includes a 3 season 14 foot enclosed gazebo with electricity. Essentially, the land is a 2 acre esker (kettle moraine feature) that serpentines through the woods to Reservoir "Pond" lake system. Excellent views of the lake! The Flowage has headwaters from McCauslin brook and connects 3 lakes totaling 417 acres. Maximum depth 27 feet. Fishing and Pontoon boat docking on shoreline. The closest boat launch is on Horn Lake which is passed on the way to the cabin and approximately a half mile away as the crow flies. Plenty of areas for tenting/ wall tents, 2 picnic tables (one near the cabin and the other by the gazebo), and a separate outhouse with toiletries at the top of the hill. Attractions in the Area: Sleepy Hollow Minature Golf on Nicolet Rd (just East of Horn Lake) Sunset Resort of Townsend located on the SE end of the flowage. Accessible by boat or short drive from camp on Burnt Dam Road. Hill Crest Lodge Supper Club on Nicolet Rd (you'll pass on the way in) 4 Stars. Great spot, site owner has everything you need, worms, fire wood, porta potty, little cabin, and Hugh bluegill in pond that are a blast to fight with. Well maintained, all functional amenities if you use them. Five star rating all around. May not be big enough for like a 30 ft rv unless you got some good backing up skills. But little 16-20ft rvs should fit in just fine. I had a little 8 ft gear trailer and I had tons of room.

The host was great I let them know in advance would be a long day of traveling, they took the time to make sure everything was arranged so I had everything would need upon arrival. Both the cabin and bathrooms were clean and you can tell they take pride in the property as it was clean and well maintained.

This place is a hidden gem! Roy provided a boat and firewood, which is super convenient. Roy was really friendly and showed me around the property. The only downside was the mosquitoes and bugs, but that’s just the price you pay for a spot on water. So don’t forget to bring bug spray, though! Overall, I can’t complain it’s a beautiful property and a great stay.

3 nights at Bluegill Haven

If you love nature, peace and quiet, and good fishing... This is the place to go. Stayed from 7/3 thru the 7/7. Caught plenty of nice size bass, and bluegill, saw turtles muskrats, heard owls and plenty of birds! The little cabin, was great, there was 2 of us , had electricity and a fan, surprisingly the mosiqutoes weren't bad at all, but you do what to bring spray, Roy the host very nice, and the bundle of wood, is huge! Didn't even use all it during our stay!!

3 nights at Bluegill Haven

Roy’s little cabin setup was perfect because I didn’t have time to haul out all my tent gear. The pond has great bird and animal watching, plus you get it all to yourself. Everything was clean and well-kept. The electricity was an excellent surprise and my dogs loved the experience too. I will definitely be back to do some fishing. I saw many bass and bluegill right from the dock. Roy is an excellent host and I highly recommend this Hipcamp.

We had a little less than a day at Pond Cabin, and it was wonderful. Roy is a very friendly host that will show you around upon arrival, he had just purchased a fishing boat that's fun to use with the connecting ponds. Plenty of fish, too. The cabin is small but surprisingly fits 3 people comfortably. He provides some wood and kindling which is nice. Overall had a great time, make sure to bring bug spray because the mosquitoes are bad around nighttime.

Roy seemed very genuine and respectful. The spot was very affordable, had electricity, some great fishing, and pretty land. Did not expect to have a row boat available, either, but that made the trip even better. My friends and I had a good time, and I would recommend this place to others. Hopefully I can come back with friends or family again sometime soon.

4 nights at Esker Ridge

Beautiful well-maintained property. Both the studio cabin and gazebo are very well built and very clean. There are so many amenities provided that we didn’t need to bring much gear other than sleeping bags, towels and toiletries. It’s one of the quietest, peaceful places we have stayed and we especially loved The Point. We were able to completely unplug for a few days and spend time relaxing. We enjoyed paddling in the canoe and kayak. Birds and wildlife are abundant. It was like our own private nature preserve. Would love to return one day. Thanks Don for sharing your wonderful space.

If you're looking for a secluded place to camp where you can fish and enjoy the scenery this is a must see! Roy's property is beautiful, and he provides a cabin with a table that can be made into a bed as well as a futon. It was nice to not have to worry about setting up and taking down the tent. The ponds are well stocked with plenty of fish. It was cloudy when we were there, but it would be the perfect place for stargazing. Roy was very accommodating and friendly. Go check it out, you won't be disappointed!

Weekend Trip to River Forest Campground & Rafting

We had the most amazing and peaceful time at River Forest! The site was lovely with the twinkling lights, and the cabin was so clean and cozy! Amy was kind enough to give us maps, suggestions, and lots of info on where to fish, hike and eat..and Dan was the nicest! He brought a porta potty right to the sight since it was already too cold to use the facilities, and made sure we had more than enough firewood. He also gave us a GREAT food suggestion of a nearby place called Grudgeville Pub and Grub! The food was awesome and the hospitality even better! (Go there!) It was chilly, as we went in early November, but we will DEFINITELY be coming back in the spring and/or summer!!
