Larger parties can rent both the camper or cabins & bring some tents additional people. Or bring a friend and rent one site in conjunction with some of our other sites. you can even split up your camping trip with a night in our backcountry camp site. Located in the rolling Appalachian hills of Southeast Ohio. This farm has been in our family since 1869 when our relatives settled here from Germany. Originally farmed for cattle and sheep with many orchards over the years our property is now mostly mature forest. Southeast Ohio, including our property is known for its hilly topography and microclimates. Hills range from 400 to 1,100 feet. Nearly 500 acres of land with an additional 200+ acres of Wayne National Forest adjacent to our farm and close proximity to other Wayne areas for outdoor activities. We have nearly 10 miles of available trails for hiking. Many activities can be done at or centered around our property. Such as excellent and challenging road biking, mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, kayaking and boating. We are two miles from the Little Muskingum River. A great river for kayak trips. The Wayne Kinderhook horse and hiking trail is roughly 5 miles from our location. Hike the Irish Run Natural Land bridge trail also a short drive to the trailhead from our property. Ride your motorcycle up Rt. 26 a great Ohio byway for scenic driving. This is also a great home base for dual sport or adventure bike motorcycle riders to camp while adventuring along gravel roads through Appalachia. If motorcycles aren't your method of entertainment and travel. Bring your horse and ride on several of our trails. From steep ascents to long flat ridge lines, you will have lots of time to immerse yourself with nature while hiking. We're next to a section of the Wayne National Forest and a short drive to other similar Wayne activity sites. If you like to camp, but don't want the busy public park experience then you will enjoy the privacy of our camping location. We are also only about a 20-minute drive to downtown Marietta. Where you can find restaurants, bars, and many other fun activities.

We have two sites different sites in the property. Site #1 “ A mountain Side Retreat” Is a 20ft diameter Bell tent yurt on a 20x24 foot platform giving you a 4foot porch to sit and listen to nature. It sleeps 2-6 people, outhouse, and outdoor shower. Features: -WiFi -electric -water -outdoor sink -outdoor shower with propane insta hot water heater. You have 104 degrees instantly. -grill with propane - firepit with cooking grate -tiki torches -1 bundle of fire wood provided. Additional wood $5 a bundle -outhouse is limed and well maintained. Be cautious of wildlife and look for WARNING signs. We have a private shooting range in the bottom fields of the property so you may hear gun shots April- September. The range is for our junior marksmanship program to practice for Nationals and local matches. For winter months Oct-April water supply will be limited. A propane heater can be requested as well for the the yurt.

2 nights at Appalachian Retreat Camp

Nature Camper is an absolute treasure of a space! We stayed in the trailer and it is wonderfully appointed with hot and cold running water, a propane stove, outdoor shower, a gorgeous back deck, and a hip composting toilet in the outhouse. The property is magnificent, offering some great hikes and gorgeous scenery. The trails are clearly marked, and you can actually enter the Wayne National Forest from the property. We happend to be there for one rainy night, and the sounds were magnificent. We also hear the coyotes calling! There were no fewer than 10 bird species singing in the morning! The site is also cloe to everything in the Marietta area. You are very close to the town, the Ohio river, the Wayne National Forest. serval trailheads, and lots of attractions. I highly recommend The Nature Camper!

We had a lovely stay in the renovated camper that’s got everything you could need. Loved falling asleep to the sound of the creek and enjoying the peace and quiet. Would recommend the site for anyone looking to get away but still wanting some creature comforts.

J was very attentive and thorough with my needs and communication. The camper was so cute and had a great rustic and modern style on the inside. The shower and the outhouse was the most impressive. Upscale and clean for a camper vibe. There is access to trails you can spend hours walking in just behind the camper. Its also 20 min from town so a doable drive just in case you need to pick up anything you forgot.

This was a great camp spot for my partner and our dogs. Lovely camper with a lot of amenities. Bathroom was very nice and kept clean. Lots of great trails nearby to hike. Great to chill by the fire and since it was cold out, it was very nice to have heating in the camper. Overall great time; will be back if ever in the area again!

J was very hospitable and the space was perfect for a weekend away with my husband. We camped here in January, so it was pretty cold outside but so cozy with the wood burning stove inside the cabin. There are lots of trails to explore the property and are easily accessible from the cabin. The hills are steep though, but worth the climb!

Weekend Trip to Olde Tyme Cabins

The location was perfect! We felt secluded in our little camp and were able to hike up the hillside nearby. We loved the campfire with the lights strung around, and there were roasting sticks in one of the RV cubbies. The hot tub was amazing. We did get rained out of the hot tub, since there is no awning over it, but once the rain stopped, we were able to enjoy again. The master bed was comfortable, and the bunk beds have a curtain to keep lights out for later sleepers. We camped in mid-November and stayed warm and cozy the whole time. Our only complaint was the water. It never quite worked well enough to shower, and washing dishes was frustrating. We did let our hosts know, and they came quickly to work on it, which helped for a short while, but didn't last the duration.

Weekend Trip to Appalachian Retreat Camp

Wife and I had all we needed at the Nature Camper. Camper has water, hot water, stove, oven, fridge, microwave, and a Solo Firepit on the private deck. Lots of charm inside, more like a tiny house with completely new appliances and birch walls. Best of all you are on 500 private acres. We hiked part of the 10 miles of trails in total privacy. Site also has huge grassy tent area you can expand into with large fire-pit - comes with the camper so no neighbors. Owner’s family goes back to the original log cabin, that is still there off one of the trails. Owner has made his own private preserve, He was interesting, respectful and responsive. Camper pdf had all the details you need. Easy drive to Marietta Ohio River historic areas, shopping, dining, activities, and Wayne NF trails. No cell or WiFi but it comes in as you drive down the road. Unplug and enjoy!

I wish we’d had more time to explore the Appalachian Retreat. It was a lovely and lush piece of land and the little a-frame was very cute and comfortable. I appreciated all of the cool design features of the cabins and outhouse. We only arrived late at night, slept well and had to head out in the morning.

Really cute A-Frame with everything you need to enjoy a time away. The property has many trails to explore and plenty to see without ever getting in your car. The cabin was comfortable and equipped with many nice add ons, aside from the occasional expected creepy crawler. Nice small generator that kept all of our devices charged, and a nice bathroom and comfy bed. Definitely recommend!

3 nights at Appalachian Retreat Camp

My brother and I rented the A- and R-frame cabins and stayed three nights. What an amazing camp! Calm and serene, brimming with wildlife (butterflies, birds including woodpeckers, hawks, and owls, deer, possum, and more). Great, well stocked firepit. The A- frame is definitely more rustic than the R-, so if you want to feel more connected to nature, the A-frame is for you. The hosts were communicative and friendly and they've clearly put a lot of thought into their camp. Lots to do in the area if you're into fishing (we caught a 15" bass at the Devola dam) or hiking. The creek was dry when we went, so we got our water from the house nearby. Both my brother and I would definitely want to go back, maybe at a time when the creek would more likely be running since it runs right by the cabins and would be incredibly relaxing to listen to. My brother at the end of the trip, "I give that camp ten out of five stars." :)

Looking for a unique getaway? I highly recommend yurt camping! My recent trip was fantastic. The yurt was incredibly private, giving us a true sense of being out in nature without sacrificing comfort. It was also very well-supplied and had everything we needed, which made packing and planning so much easier. The yurt and the surrounding area were spotless and super clean, and the whole experience was just plain fun. It's the perfect mix of rustic adventure and cozy relaxation. We're already planning our next trip!

My Lovely companion and I were touring the area on motorcycles. This gem was perfectly, centrally located for our excursions. The weather was exceedingly hot when we arrived and started down the shaded pathway into the cool glen. This place is dripping with charm and teaming with all sorts of wildlife! It’s very well provisioned and equally romantic. Very private. We were unable to meet in person with “J” unfortunately, given our itinerary, but our host was still completely available and accommodating via text. We are already planning another trip to the area with every intent to stay here again but with a small group. Thank you!

Weekend Trip to Wolfhaven Tree Farm-Secluded

We needed a short weekend to recharge and reconnect - while we love camping and backpacking, for this trip we wanted a little extra comfort for sleeping arrangements. The Wolfhaven yurt and pond were a perfect match for what we were looking for, and we feel lucky to have been able to book last minute. The yurt is very cozy and inviting, with some lovely glamping extras (i.e., real bed, Keurig coffee maker, some lighting if wanted) without taking away from the desire to disconnect from tech/work etc. The portion of the property for guest enjoyment is fairly spacious, with an open sky view but surrounded by gorgeous trees, and of course the small pond. My husband enjoyed catching a couple of bass during our stay. We camp-fired, cloud-watched and star-gazed and enjoyed being together in this beautiful place. We fell asleep at night listening to the bullfrogs and tree frogs. A tip: if you're planning to stay a few days, give some thought to meal planning in light of no refrigeration or cooking appliances other than the campfire. There are nearby places to resupply for fresh food, but a well-stocked cooler with ice was very handy for our warmer weather trip. We brought a cast-iron griddle and some camping utensils to use over the fire, which we were glad of! Amber, our hostess, was communicative and helpful before and during our stay (while also giving us our space and privacy). We are hoping to come back, with and/or without our children, for another stay in the future!

Great little spot in the woods! Yurt was very comfortable with soft mattress, microfiber sheets included! The yurt has electricity, lots of games available, a firepit, with a bundle of dry firewood. The deck is large and has a sink with running water near the side and table. Tiki torches are available, if it hasnt just rained, they work and theres a lot of tiki torche oil. The host was nice and brought over some extra hanging lights and check in to make sure we were all good. Great place to stay

Weekend Trip to Appalachian Retreat Camp

We stayed at J.’s “Cabin in the Woods” and it was awesome! It’s nestled deep among the trees and really makes you feel like you’re in the woods. It’s so tucked away that it’s hard to see from the lower cabin so make sure you read those instructions carefully! The cabin itself was very clean and comfy! There was a ton of handy extras inside like a lantern, a camping chair, a lighter, a hammock, and even some bug spray! The porch had a nice spot for setting up our camp stove and the area around the solo stove was great for sitting around the fire and hanging out for the evening. J was super helpful and responsive! Can’t recommend it enough if you’re looking for a super isolated stay in the woods! Oh and the bugs weren’t too bad and it rained pretty hard most of the night and we stayed nice and dry in the cabin. Oh and there were two overhead LED bulbs that let us stay up chatting even when the rain drove us inside. Can’t recommend it enough!

Beautiful part of West Virginia. The site was very secluded and had everything we could want. The yurt was HUGE! Plenty of room inside the tent. The outhouse was well maintained. The hot shower was great! Our dogs loved the freedom of not being on a leash.
