This property and farm has been in our family for 3 generations. In 1964 my grandfather started the campground due to limited camping at New Germany. My father tells stories of it being filled with guests all summer long! Over the years there was few upgrades and now it's in need of a facelift. Landscaping, electric upgrades and bathhouse remodels were completed Spring 2021. We will continue to renovate in phases it's been a labor of love, but you can still see the beauty of this rural location and enjoy the peace and quiet. Hope you enjoy your stay. Lots of trees, shade and nature. It's located near New Germany State Park, 1.5 miles by car, less than a mile by foot. The state park has a lake and hiking trails. Garrett County has so much to offer, waterfalls, lakes, hiking, skiing, Amish gifts, history, fresh air, beautiful scenery. The campground was first started in 1964 by my grandparents, we are currently completing renovations in phases.

Learn more about this land: This wooded area is 5 miles away from the Ohiopyle State Park whitewater launch area and GAP bike trail. We are less than 9 miles from Frank Lloyd Wright's Classic Fallingwater and about 8 miles from Kentuck Knob one of the last resident homes he designed (both are open for tours). Fort Necessity National Battlefield is 5 miles away. There are numerous native trout streams in the area. Youghiogheny Reservoir is 7 miles away for fishing, boat rentals, and water-sports. The Fern House is the primary camp cabin on the property. Although if someone would want to park a "self contained" camper or small RV on the property we would permit the unit to occupy the area in front of the driveway just pass the entrance gate. It is not within the ferns and is next to the road. There is an electrical outlet available at this small RV or van camper site. We are "nice pet" friendly. Dogs should not be left in the cabin alone. We have a mountain spring (when the spring is running) up the trail road (450 feet away). The ferns will normally be in full glory by the end of May to mid September and are amazing, covering the forest floor. Deer, bear, wild turkey, fox, chipmunks, squirrels and many woodland birds abound the property especially owls. A picnic table, fire ring and firewood is available on the property. Free WiFi on the property as long as the plant life is not too thick! There is a mile hiking loop right on the property and many challenging trails in the area, including the starting point for the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. No smoking is permitted in the cabin. We are less than 9 miles from Frank Lloyd Wright's Classic Fallingwater and about 8 miles from Kentuck Knob one of the last resident homes he designed (both are open for tours). Fort Necessity National Battlefield is 5 miles away. There are numerous native trout streams in the area. Youghiogheny Reservoir is 7 miles away for fishing, boat rentals, and water-sports. The Fern House is the primary camp cabin on the property. Although if someone would want to park a "self contained" camper or small RV on the property we would permit the unit to occupy the area in front of the driveway just pass the entrance gate. It is not within the ferns and is next to the road. There is an electrical outlet available at this small RV or van camper site. We are "nice pet" friendly. Dogs should not be left in the cabin alone. We have a mountain spring (when the spring is running) up the trail road (450 feet away). The ferns will normally be in full glory by the end of May to mid September and are amazing, covering the forest floor. Deer, bear, wild turkey, fox, chipmunks, squirrels and many woodland birds abound the property especially owls. A picnic table, fire ring and firewood is available on the property. Free WiFi on the property as long as the plant life is not too thick! There is a mile hiking loop right on the property and many challenging trails in the area, including the starting point for the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. No smoking is permitted in the cabin. Me and my partner chose to rent this cabin for thanksgiving. It was absolutely fabulous, the cabin is so cozy, the composting toilet did not bring any smell, the shower was great, the bed was very comfortable and the view from the bed was the best part of the trip. I cannot wait to rent this again. Virgil and his wife were also very welcoming. I highly recommend renting this property.

The location was perfect! We felt secluded in our little camp and were able to hike up the hillside nearby. We loved the campfire with the lights strung around, and there were roasting sticks in one of the RV cubbies. The hot tub was amazing. We did get rained out of the hot tub, since there is no awning over it, but once the rain stopped, we were able to enjoy again. The master bed was comfortable, and the bunk beds have a curtain to keep lights out for later sleepers. We camped in mid-November and stayed warm and cozy the whole time. Our only complaint was the water. It never quite worked well enough to shower, and washing dishes was frustrating. We did let our hosts know, and they came quickly to work on it, which helped for a short while, but didn't last the duration.

Virgil & Pam really go above and beyond at The Fern House! The cabin was comfy and stocked with everything one could need for an extended weekend away. Our hosts were generous and gracious. They provide great communication and hospitality. We spent 3 nights and wish it could've been longer! Our pups loved the mile walk around the property each morning plus great hiking spots nearby. We took advantage of the fireplace, local eatery suggestions, and the loft was the perfect hideaway for resting and waking to beautiful wooded views. We cant wait to come back!

We absolutely loved staying in the Fernhouse!! It was perfect. It was adorable and so cozy. It was very clean and had everything we needed. The location was wonderful! So close to hiking trails and lots of outdoor recreation. The hike around the property was beautiful and our dogs loved walking it with us in the morning. The outdoor area is super cozy too. Virgil was so kind and welcoming. We will be back again in another season!! I would highly recommend.

LOTS to do and quite a bit of amenities- a coffee pavilion that has outlets for charging, an abundance of firewood ($12.50 for an entire wheelbarrow full of wood), port-a-potties with toilet paper, air fresheners, sanitation wipes, and hand sanitizer. I drove 3 hours to camp here with some friends. We had 6 adults and a handful of kids. This place ROCKS! The campground was awesome, the river/beach was very fun and extremely beautiful, and the host(s) were impressively friendly. Jim and Vincent were unbelievable nice and did everything possible to make sure we had a great time. The firewood was also extremely cheap and it made for a good time. I HIGHLY recommend stay at this campground. I’m positive we’ll be back.

Weekend Trip to Abrams Creek Campground/Retreat
We decided last minute to go to West Virginia for the weekend and booked a cottage on Michael’s land. The area was lovely with a stream and big boulders right next to our cottage and the kids LOVED it. They also provided a sheet with suggested activities in the area that we appreciated and used. We will definitely come back.

The cabin was peaceful and cozy. Virgil made sure we can ask for anything if needed. Lots of stuff to do in the area. I kinda wish we had done breakfast with Virgil and Pam.

It was a great find in a beautiful location. Nice sized sites. We didn’t stay in the cabin, but it was a convenient option for storing gear. And the porta john was maintained.
