There was originally a camper parked here with a roof over it while the main house was built back in th 1970s. When the home was finished the camper was moved out and it was turned into the cabin. It originally had a wood stove but it was always to hot so we replaced it with an electric heater and at the same time remodeled the interior. It is very comfortable for two to three people as it only has the bunk beds, microwave, small closet and dining table with 4 chairs including a rocker and a cabinet with pots, pans and silverware for your convenience.

Recently we were very close to the Crown Creek fire and a hotshot crew came and "prept" our property and cut down a lot of the underbrush therefore changing the landscape around the cabin so the main picture has changed to the current one.

Iron Mountain Ranch features the owner's hand built straw bale house which is run off solar power, a friendly herd of horses along with a few cats and three dogs. (look up the ranch social media accounts online for additional pictures).
Since this hut is built with partially screened walls and partial solid walls, you should consider the season when requesting a booking. I will accept bookings starting on 1st but even in May the night time temps can be cold. Checking the local Northport, WA weather forecast can give you an idea of what weather we will be expecting. Please consider this luxurious tent camping as there is no heat source in the hut, no electricity or running water. Please bring lanterns, flashlights, headlamps etc.
The futon is a queen size and I can provide sheets and bedding but prefer you bring your own if possible as we have no laundry facilities on the ranch.
***There is a very limited supply of potable water on the property so you are required to pack in your drinking and cooking water. Washing and shower water is provided.***
In the early spring and late fall we cover the screened walls of the hut with clear window plastic so that the nights are not very cold inside the screen house. We provide a propane buddy heater that is safe for indoor use to help keep the space warm for you!! A hot water shower with equally impressive views is close to the straw house but still as private as you need it to be.
Once owned by the Lael family (whom the road is named after), this land supported lots of horses in it's past. The Lael family homsteaded this area, raising horses on their acerage and the original Lael house is still standing on the lower section of the property. Old and beautiful apple, plum, cherry and pear trees still thrive in the orchard they planted along with massive willow trees. I'm honored to continue the Lael's love for the equine with my own herd of horses.
Horseback riding is available upon request and for an additional fee of $75 per person for a ride.

A Resource Book is available to borrow with listings of local attractions, outdoor activities, shops, and restaurants to help you plan activities during your stay. ~ If visiting Canada is of interest, a scenic 30-minute drive further north on Hwy. 21 along the Kettle River takes you to the border crossing at Grand Forks, BC.
If you have questions about the campsites, please reach out. If all sites are booked, contact us… we may be able to create a spot for you. We have room to grow but are doing it slowly.
The day of your booking we will reach out on your ETA. We always meet and greet first time campers at the gate and escort you to your site, so please arrive as close to Check-In time as possible.
We understand that travel can delay arrival. If you tell us you’ll be here at 4:30, we’re sitting and waiting for you. So if you’ll be late, please be courteous of our time and let us know… communication goes a long way.
NOTE: we don’t have cell reception and we’re only online once each day. After booking, we will send you our home landline number (no texting) to call for communication.
This is a working Ranch so please be aware that there are sounds associated with our activities: sheep and goats get excited at feeding time; livestock guard dogs bark while doing their jobs, and the rooster announces the break of dawn.
~ The Ranch borders State Land and is within 1 mile of the Colville National Forest means endless miles of picturesque hiking and wildlife viewing
~ Swimming, fishing, boating, and water skiing are only 15 minutes away at Curlew Lake State Park and the Kettle River
~ One bundle of firewood, 5 gallons of potable water, and a compost toilet are included with your stay. BYOTP though
WILDLIFE: There is a wide range of wildlife around the Ranch- snowshoe hare, grouse, turkey, bobcat, Canada lynx, coyote, cougar, wolf, and black bear. Please use common sense while camping! Always be aware of your surroundings. Keep garbage secure in a vehicle. - There are also ticks in the area.

A Resource Book is available to borrow with listings of local attractions, outdoor activities, shops, and restaurants to help you plan activities during your stay. ~ If visiting Canada is of interest, a scenic 30-minute drive further north on Hwy. 21 along the Kettle River takes you to the border crossing at Grand Forks, BC.
If you have questions about the campsites, please reach out. If all sites are booked, contact us… we may be able to create a spot for you. We have room to grow but are doing it slowly.
The day of your booking we will reach out on your ETA. We always meet and greet first time campers at the gate and escort you to your site, so please arrive as close to Check-In time as possible.
We understand that travel can delay arrival. If you tell us you’ll be here at 4:30, we’re sitting and waiting for you. So if you’ll be late, please be courteous of our time and let us know… communication goes a long way.
NOTE: we don’t have cell reception and we’re only online once each day. After booking, we will send you our home landline number (no texting) to call for communication.
This is a working Ranch so please be aware that there are sounds associated with our activities: sheep and goats get excited at feeding time; livestock guard dogs bark while doing their jobs, and the rooster announces the break of dawn.
~ The Ranch borders State Land and is within 1 mile of the Colville National Forest means endless miles of picturesque hiking and wildlife viewing
~ Swimming, fishing, boating, and water skiing are only 15 minutes away at Curlew Lake State Park and the Kettle River
~ One bundle of firewood, 5 gallons of potable water, and a compost toilet are included with your stay. BYOTP though
WILDLIFE: There is a wide range of wildlife around the Ranch- snowshoe hare, grouse, turkey, bobcat, Canada lynx, coyote, cougar, wolf, and black bear. Please use common sense while camping! Always be aware of your surroundings. Keep garbage secure in a vehicle. - There are also ticks in the area.

It doesn’t get much prettier than the Idaho panhandle. Situated between Big Sky Country of Montana and the vibrant evergreen fields of Washington (which seriously look Photoshopped to the naked eye), this forest holds more than half the state’s surface waters, and wilderness vibes are guaranteed by the deer, elk, bear, caribou, and wolf populations who call this spot home. Moist maritime air comes in from the Pacific coast, and historic cabins dot the landscape. Near Spokane and the border can get busy on the weekends, but with this much acreage you can always find seclusion here. Make sure to check out at least a portion of the bikeable and walkable Hiawatha Trail—weaving 15 miles through tunnels and across high steel trestles in the Bitterroot Mountains, it’s been called one of the most scenic stretches of railroad in the country.

The location was easy to find with instructions given for checking in. The area was beautiful. The outdoor shower was great and easy to use. Taking a shower under the stary skies and while the sun rose was amazing. The Port-a-potty was clean and well stocked. The dome was clean with plenty of space for our things. The stars and planets were big and bright in the night/early morning sky. We heard coyotes in the early morning and a few white tail deer ran across the field.. We loved our stay.

Flying squirrel was occupied by girls ranging in age from 14 to just shy of 18. They loved their days there. I could hear the late night laughing and joyful tones of their voices. Having the small fire pit so they could make s'more was brilliant. They loved exploring the camp and leaving their fairy houses for others to enjoy. They are planning their 18th birthday celebration there. Thank you for providing such a beautiful location to strengthen the bonds of family and friends.

We loved our stay at Flying Squirrel Treehouse. This was a truly unique HipCamp experience - sleeping outside but undercover, with very comfortable beds. The Flying Squirrel Treehouse was an amazing space and having our own bedside firepit was amazing.
A Wee Place in the Woods is a magical location. The kitchen facility is very well appointed and our daughter loved the craft area.
Charlon was a great host and made us feel welcome and encouraged us to make the space our own.
Highly recommend and would most definitely stay here again, should we take another trip to Sandpoint.

We had the best time reconnecting as a family at this magical campground. The hostess was so kind to our family & the other guests were very friendly. Everything about a Wee Place is so intentional & energetic. The photos don’t do this campground justice, you have to experience it to truly grasp the essence of this place. We stayed in July & underestimated how cool it can get at night but it just gave us a chance to cozy up next to each other. My significant other & I are already looking at our calendars to see when we can come again without the kids. Absolutely stunning campground, you will not be disappointed staying here.

Absolutely amazing experience. Such a great little set up with an awesome view, comfortable and cozy. The outdoor seating areas are relaxing, while the outdoor shower gives you a sense of freedom. Inside the dome you'll find a very comfortable bed that puts you in the perfect location for a beautiful sunrise. I would definitely stay here again!
