Peaceful camping with privacy on a 160-acre historic farm! Minutes from Harpers Ferry, Antietam Battlefield and the C&O Canal to name a few. We are within an hour of Gettysburg and within an hour and a half of DC if you're planning a day trip. We have a prime central location with close access to so many things to do. This beautiful property is nestled in a  valley between Elk Ridge and South Mountain with incredible sunrises, sunsets and starlit night skies. Walk out to the fishing pond, or follow the trails around the pastures to meet the cattle grazing. We have Scottish Highlands and Black Angus grazing as well as Alpacas. We also have beautiful peacocks on the property. We are a working farm so expect to see tractors and you may even see us baling hay or tending to the cattle. You may smell some animal smells which we work at keeping to a minimum but again, we are a working farm. It’s a true farm experience. Also, please keep in mind that during warm weather you may encounter some bugs. Gnats and flies are always a possibility and of course at times they can be worse than others. That can always be a possibility when camping or being outdoors. Bring bug spray, citronella and anything else to help with insects. If you stay by the pond you may hear frogs which personally I enjoy hearing but some may not. Consider bringing a generator and run a fan if you think the sound might bother you or some way to block sounds. We enjoy talking to our guests so feel free to stop us for a chat. At the RV sites you have 30 and 50 amp power as well as water. All the water spickets are potable and drinkable. Please be aware that some may not have great cell service and as noted in the amenity section we do not have WiFi at any of the sites yet. It is something we are looking into for the future. If something is urgent you should be able to pick up WiFi near the tenant house and a password can be provided for you to try.

The spaceCottage is built from years of reclaimed lumber and timber raised and cut on our property nearby. We designed the cottage to be a private location, the back deck is surrounding by trees.&nbsp;Learn more about this land:Brand new cottage crafted from all reclaimed materials. Open floor plan with high ceilings are sure to impress. The luxury of this cottage cannot fully be felt until your perfect stay.The spaceCottage is built from years of reclaimed lumber and timber raised and cut on our property nearby. We designed the cottage to be a private location, the back deck is surrounding by trees. Your only complaint will be having to go home the next day. Cleaning precautions for everyone are taken to extreme lengths. All linens, pillows, etc. are completely removed and cleaned. All surfaces receive commercial disinfectant and upon the request of the guest we can cordinate fogging services. We apologize in advance that some normal things are removed completely like printed house manuals. We ask that you remove all trash and a few other things upon departing to help us stay safe as well.The internet cannot be guaranteed if there is a problem with the provider. In a wooded area bugs are normal. Loud noise or Guest not on the reservation will result in immediate termination and removal. We have a zero tolerance policy. Our relationship and safety of our neighbors and neighborhood is of upmost importance to us.

Sweet Grass

Enjoy a relaxing stay at this newly renovated historic milk house. The original structure sits on a functioning farm with beautiful picturesque pond. The cottage (sprinkled with timeless antiques) has all the amenities for a perfect stay- bed, sitting area ,full bathroom and full kitchen with dining table. This treasure is located right off the road and minutes from the areas finest wineries, cideries , breweries and farm-to- table restaurants.

Firewood is included at no additional cost. 

Bears Den Campground

Set up your tent in our remote but easily accessible campground, 100 yards off the Appalachian Trail. Roast marshmallows by the fire pit and watch the sunset over the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah

About the property

Located on a 66-acre plot just five miles from the Shenandoah River, our property offers amazing access to hiking and the outdoors while also keeping civilization within striking distance. Bear Chase Brewery is just a half mile walk across the street, and we are 15 miles from Purcellville.

The land and lodge used to be the summer home of a trained opera singer, whose singing could be heard throughout the mountain.

Your Host lives onsite in the stone house that also acts as a hostel for hikers on the Appalachian Trail. Built in the 1930's all from locally sourced hand-hammered stone, the house is open every night from 5pm - 9pm.

Note that we offer several campsites relatively close to each other, so you should expect to see and hear other campers on the property during your stay.

About the listing

Pitch your tent in a forested area just a short walk up from where you’ll park your car. Enjoy unbeatable proximity to hiking and panoramic views while still having basic amenities that ensure a comfortable stay.

You’ll have access to a composting pit toilet, and can access potable water from the tap in the lodge. That’s also where you can access hot showers. As noted above, we host Appalachian Trail thru hikers on the property, so you may see them hanging around or sleeping in the bunkhouse near the shared facilities. so please be respectful of hours when you come in for a shower. 

No showers after 10 pm 

For meals, we have picnic tables, and you are encouraged to cook over the fire pits that accompany each site. Please practice Leave No Trace practices during your stay, as the property has raccoons and other critters who will be drawn to any food scraps that are left behind.

Pets are allowed! Please keep them on leash during your stay.

No kitchen equipment is provided, so campers must bring their own supplies if they'd like to cook.



We do not offer WiFi, but there is good cell reception for all common carriers.

Button Farm

The Button Farm Living History Center is a hands-on education facility dedicated to preserving the history of the Underground Railroad.

 It is operated by the Menare Foundation through a long term lease agreement with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

Several of us who work for the non-profit live in the Button Farm house and share the land with our pigs, geese, chickens and lots of wildlife.

 We're a close drive to Germantown and all the basic amenities of modern life, but when you come down our drive, you enter a world of natural beauty and rural quiet.

When booking, keep in mind that all persons--regardless of age or whether or not they intend to spend the night--must be paid for.

Our restroom includes hand sanitizer.

We are the Maryland Health Society, one of the oldest clothing optional resorts and campgrounds in the USA.&nbsp; Established in 1934, we are 100% not-for-profit and 100% volunteer run.&nbsp; We have 98 secluded acres of wooded beauty, including cabins, RV sites with 50amp service, tent sites, swimming pool, clubhouse with kitchen and full restrooms, BBQ pit, 5 outdoor showers, 7 miles of hiking trails.&nbsp; Bordering the&nbsp;Patuxent River, we are 10 minutes from Washington, DC. Nestled on a hillside overlooking the tributary to the Potomac this glammed out cottage has everything you need for a romantic getaway. Immersed just outside the tall glass walls is a private deck overlooking a forest for miles. Keep an eye out for wildlife, you might get lucky and see a couple of bald eagles on your visit. Enjoy indoor or outdoor shower. The treehouse is completely private and equipped with wifi, kitchen, king bed and more.
