Fremont culture and Anasazi people were the first known inhabitants of the area. Petroglyphs, pithouses, arrowheads, pottery, and manos dating from A.D. 750 to 1250 found in the area are evidence that it was on a major thoroughfare of early indigenous peoples. At nearby Parowan Gap ancient people inscribed petroglyphs on smooth-surfaced boulders that feature snakes, lizards, mouse-men, bear claws, and mountain sheep. Located near the Parowan Gap there are dinosaur tracks. East of the Gap and petroglyphs hikers can discover Hadrosaurs tracks that were originally formed in non-resistant mudstone. Later, the Old Spanish Trail
passed through the area.
The nearby town of Parowan was founded in 1851, twelve months after Parley P. Pratt and members of his exploring party discovered the Little Salt Lake (dry lake bed)
which is straight out from the property.
The area was traveled by early settlers that used the nearby Red Hills to pass through the area
to hide from aggressive Indians that hid in the nearby mountains that watch for them traveling on the Spanish Trail. Many arrow heads and artifacts have been found on and near the property.
Later (early 1900's) sheep herders camped in the same place as the location of the property.

Hello, and welcome to my private horse hobby ranch. My family has lived in Southern Utah for over 26 years. This property is within only a couple miles of the Three Peaks Recreation area near Cedar City, Utah. Three Peaks offers mountain bike trails, hiking, free day use campfire sites, an RC track, ATV and OHV trails, campgrounds, and an equestrian obstacle course and trailheads. Nearby is the county shooting range as well. Cedar City is home to many more hiking, biking and equestrian trails all within a 10 - 30 min drive away. Bryce Canyon National park is only a 1 hour’s drive away. Zion’s national park is only a 1 1/2 hour’s drive away. Cedar canyon is only a 20 min drive away and boasts beautiful canyons with evergreen trees, aspens, ponds, trails, and waterfalls. Cedar Breaks National Park is only a 20-30 min drive away with spectacular rock cliffs and overlooks. Brianhead ski and mountain bike resort is also only a 30 min drive away. This is a central location with endless possibilities to go exploring the amazing outdoors.
This is a private residential property in a neighborhood with lot sizes ranging from 1 to 10 acres. There is only one RV site so it’s much quieter than a public campground. The driveway area circles around the private home so it is easy to pull your RV through to the RV pad/spot. Please realize your respect to this property and neighborhood is of utmost importance. There are neighbors with cows, geese, chickens, goats, dogs and pigs so realize it’s not as quiet as some places but still more private than many public venues. We also respect you, so please look at pictures and read descriptions. I am happy to answer any questions before you book. There is only one RV site here. You could put a tent up in the dirt but I don’t recommend it as I can’t imagine it would be very comfortable. There are horses in corrals, my people and dog friendly dog is off-leash, and there are 5 barn cats who roam free on the property (2 of which are as friendly as dogs). All persons staying on the property will need to sign a liability waiver since it is a horse property and horses are present. My horses aren’t offered for riding but ask about other ways you can interact with them if you desire. At no additional cost you can help care for them, brush them, and learn a few fun facts about them. For a fee you can get guided experiences with them on the ground (not in the saddle), do breath work sessions with them, and learn basic horsemanship skills.

Rachel has a great site near Cedar City that is very level and accommodated our 43' fifth wheel without any problem. She has updated the site to have full hookups, including 50 amp electrical. While here, we enjoyed mountain bike riding at Iron Hills and Three Peaks (only 5 miles away...). We also explored Cedar City a bit. We'll be back in the future, and would absolutely stay here again. Absolutely loved this campground. The sights were beautiful and it was well maintained. It was secluded enough that there was no campers nearby and we had the whole area to ourselves. But it was also fairly close to Panguitch for things like bathrooms and gas. It was about 40 minutes from Bryce Canyon NP which was a HUGE plus. Instructions on how to get to site were clear.
I would say the only downside of this campground was the dirt road there. The road is a little scary in a small car but manageable. At one point, you cross through a dried river bed. that is fairly sandy and has a small drop off. Our little Nissan Sentra made it through but we were very stressed it wouldn’t. The only suggestion I would make for Gunsmoke is maybe adding a tire ramp to make that drop off less stressful.
That aside, our stay was perfect!

This was a great experience!! Sally was so friendly and helpful!! The location was great!! For our experience, it was nice and isolated so we could really have our privacy. We did come early in the year so it could be more hopping if that is your preference as the season takes off. Regardless, you could walk away feeling like your were going to your roots and roughing it, while still having access to some amenities, i.e. toilets, picnic tables and fire pits. It was perfect for us!!
At the risk of losing the more isolated feeling, I really can't recommend this camp enough!!

Beautiful secluded campsite in an open field with amazing dark skies!! The Milky Way was incredible it was almost too hard to find my favorite constellations among the stars in between! Also very close to town for any necessities and a short drive to Bryce Canyon!
The only thing I would not recommend is bringing a 37’ 5th wheel unless you’re as risky as I am! If you’re careful enough you’ll make it without damaging your pick-up.

Rachel was an incredible host, even though we didn’t have the best weather we got to brush and help feed horses as much as we wanted. She was very responsive and helpful and her pup and mine got along awesome. Views are incredible, easy to get in and park and super close to town. We had 1 good day of weather and snuck off to Bryce Canyon national park for the day it was only about an hour ride. Can’t say enough nice things about the stay and the host 10/10 recommend.

Rachel is one of the nicest Hip camp hosts we've met, always looking to please us and our dog. Lovely farm surroundings including Rachel's farm.....having the horses near to us was spectacular!! Super quiet setting. We'll definitely be back!😊
