The nearest town, Menard, is about a 12 minute drive from the property and has a grocery store, gas stations, a couple restaurants, a pub and a bakery. Lovers of history might enjoy visiting the Presidio de San Saba, about 20 minutes from the farm, as well as the historic Pioneers Rest Cemetery in town. Low Gear Farmstead is a safe, welcoming space for queers and POC.

The property is been completely fenced. Please close and secure gate after entering and exiting with the lock provided. Code provided before arrival. There is a manual gate and a automatic gate you will be given the code for both.

We have secluded camping available. Primitive tent camping, or if you want to go glamping you can bring an RV with a generator and be even more secluded but still have the comfortable amenities of an RV.

What stood out the most was Colin, very understanding & helpful through our trip. I will most definitely come back & bring more people to enjoy the scenery & campground. We just finished up our overlanding trailer and wanted to find a spot a few hrs away from home to test it out. While Texas really doesn’t have a whole lot of public land, we thought an RV park would be perfect for the first trip. Our neighbors recommended Mason Tx to us and this park came up and looked perfect! Well sure enough it was!! We were immediately greeted upon entry and the gentleman was incredibly nice and helpful! Got to our site (4) and it was beautiful!! Nice and quiet with a gorgeous view! We even had the same helpful lady who answered our phone call, come out and check on us to make sure we were all set before the super cold front came in! 10/10, will definitely be coming back!!

We really enjoyed our stay here. Communication was great from the beginning and they were super hospitable to us during our stay here. We only got to spend a limited time here since we were there to visit inks lake and enchanted rock during the day. It was just a short drive to both and very convenient. Had so much fun trying to get pictures with the longhorns too. Hopefully we can come back and visit again.

Very impressed with this campground. Went on the guided bird walk and learned so much about bird calls, how and where to spot them, and some interesting facts. The hosts are kind beyond words, highly communicative, and knowledgeable of their landscape. Their pup will come by to say hello and sometimes sleep by your campsite! If you want to stay up late to stargaze, listen to the river run, and have a great time then this is the hipcamp for you.

Really pretty campsite with good distance between neighboring campsites for some privacy. The night sky was amazing — we even saw the Milky Way around 7:20pm! Our toddler loved the visit from their friendly dog and hearing all the animals. Host was also quick to respond whenever we had questions. Overall, a really nice spot if you’re looking to chill, relax, and enjoy a starry sky.
A couple small things that could make the experience even better: slightly more maintained paths around the campsite area (helpful for families with young kids), and a bit of tree trimming along the road in would make the drive smoother. For the price, it’s great… just come expecting a nice, rustic experience.

My husband and I both enjoyed our stay at site 2! The host was friendly and the campground was overall clean. There was a beautiful view of the river that provided a great place to see sunrise and sunset. The river was accessible, but by a hill so I would keep that in mind if you have difficulty with steep inclines. Clear, cool and clean waters! Little to no light pollution allowing for an incredible view of the stars at night. It is by a county road so there was some road noise but not frequent. We will definitely be back in the future!
