With only one campsite on the property, and the comfortably secluded surroundings, you will indulge in peace and beauty. Campers leave feeling refreshed and healthier than they arrived. The fresh air, the perfect sunshine and good quality mountain food feel great to consume.
You can enjoy the plentitude of animals here and surrounding the property. Both wild and domestic. If you're a bird watcher, this is like a natural sanctuary. Song birds sing all through the day, and the doves snore beautifully at night. Cranes, owls, hawks, humming birds, parrots, and many more I'm not familiar with visit all the time. We got farm ducks, and chickens too. My neighbor has a flock of Peacocks that are usually out to be seen (it's a hike to see them, but we can take you there if you'd like). Coqui's singing romantic songs all through the night. Crabs in the creek for the kids to catch. It's a jungle.
We have a lot of fruit trees on the property. If you see anything ready for the taking let us know and you can partake in the experience of harvesting and eating it. Bananas, avocados, soursop, guava, fig, calabaza, coffee, name, coconuts, pana pen, and more.
Clean filtered mountain water is available for purchase. As well we keep a regular supply of Caribbean snacks available. Sweet and savory available for purchase.

🗺 Your rock shelter name is Refugio Caney. You will have a video in your self check in instructions to make it easier for you to get there on your own. You need to bring good grip shoes for the trail and your hands should be totally free. Bathroom and parking spot are located at the entrance of our property, at about 3-4 minutes hiking from the rock shelter.

Hiking jewels can be found at 20 minutes drive: Las Tetas between Cayey-Salinas, Canon San Cristobal between Aibonito-Barranquitas, and Bosque Carite, Cayey.

Property is not fully fenced.
Nights can be really colds so bring your jackets.
The place uses solar lights, doesn't have electricity, so be prepared to connect with nature.
Must bring your own tent, blankets and towels.

This is a rural and country property, surrounded by nature and creeks, with direct access to Cidra Lake. Drive carefully, but all vehicles can get access without problems. Vehicles like a Toyota Camry, an SUV, or a 4x4.
Other things to note
Use only Google Maps to drive to the property; you can get lost if you use other apps like Apple Maps. Remember this is a rural area with just a few traffic lights; we highly recommend arriving early the 1st time to get familiarized with the area.Wi-Fi: There is no Wi-Fi signal in Grandpa's house, but if you need to use it, you can access the Wi-Fi service close to the main house.You will be in the middle of 5 acres of land, in total contact with nature and in an emblematic property from the 50's. In simple words: there are no screens on the windows, and you sleep with a mosquito net. Insects are a vital part of the flora and fauna, and you can see a wide variety of them in the surroundings, from lizards to fireflies. In the same way, and despite the fact that we have an exterminator visit every 2 weeks, sometimes they can be inside the grandfather's house. A real, genuine, and magical experience.For those not familiar with the local driving conditions, it's advisable to approach the journey with a sense of adventure and patience. The roads, while providing an authentic experience of the country's topography, may require a bit of adaptability from drivers more accustomed to city driving.Compact vehicles are more than capable of reaching our hidden oasis. With only one campsite on the property, and the comfortably secluded surroundings, you will indulge in peace and beauty. Campers leave feeling refreshed and healthier than they arrived. The fresh air, the perfect sunshine and good quality mountain food feel great to consume.
You can enjoy the plentitude of animals here and surrounding the property. Both wild and domestic. If you're a bird watcher, this is like a natural sanctuary. Song birds sing all through the day, and the doves snore beautifully at night. Cranes, owls, hawks, humming birds, parrots, and many more I'm not familiar with visit all the time. We got farm ducks, and chickens too. My neighbor has a flock of Peacocks that are usually out to be seen (it's a hike to see them, but we can take you there if you'd like). Coqui's singing romantic songs all through the night. Crabs in the creek for the kids to catch. It's a jungle.
We have a lot of fruit trees on the property. If you see anything ready for the taking let us know and you can partake in the experience of harvesting and eating it. Bananas, avocados, soursop, guava, fig, calabaza, coffee, name, coconuts, pana pen, and more.
Clean filtered mountain water is available for purchase. As well we keep a regular supply of Caribbean snacks available. Sweet and savory available for purchase.

This is a rural and country property, surrounded by nature and creeks, with direct access to Cidra Lake. Drive carefully, but all vehicles can get access without problems. Vehicles like a Toyota Camry, an SUV, or a 4x4.
Other things to note
Use only Google Maps to drive to the property; you can get lost if you use other apps like Apple Maps. Remember this is a rural area with just a few traffic lights; we highly recommend arriving early the 1st time to get familiarized with the area.Wi-Fi: There is no Wi-Fi signal in Grandpa's house, but if you need to use it, you can access the Wi-Fi service close to the main house.You will be in the middle of 5 acres of land, in total contact with nature and in an emblematic property from the 50's. In simple words: there are no screens on the windows, and you sleep with a mosquito net. Insects are a vital part of the flora and fauna, and you can see a wide variety of them in the surroundings, from lizards to fireflies. In the same way, and despite the fact that we have an exterminator visit every 2 weeks, sometimes they can be inside the grandfather's house. A real, genuine, and magical experience.For those not familiar with the local driving conditions, it's advisable to approach the journey with a sense of adventure and patience. This place enchants the heart, by simply surrendering to the magic landscape visuals and sounds all around and within this site. You hear nothing but purity on this marvelous site, from the sounds of 5 species of coqui frogs and so many native birds from local endemics to native resident birds and migratory passerines and birds of pray. I grew up in PR and explored the island thoroughly for nearly 30 years and I had never been on a place where I heard seven to eight pairs of PR screech owls joyfully chanting all at once from all around. A relatively short hike within the property takes you into another realm down by the river where isolation is bliss. A night hike through the property trees brought me so much wonder from hundreds of fireflies and the night orchestra from owls, coquies and so many insect sounds. We loved the space! There are thoughtful touches, the tent platform is flat, and we loved waking up to the nice trees. The gates you need to walk through to get to the Hipcamp are grey and not green (we got confused at first because it was dark). The hosts are very responsive and super nice! We really enjoyed chatting with one of them in the morning on our way out. We would definitely recommend this place!

We had a nice time at Refugio Caney and loved that it was so close to climbing and that the tent and mattress were provided. A couple of things to note: if you're 6ft tall, you can only fully lay out in the tent if you do so diagonally. You can hear the freeway from the tent, but it didn't bother us. Also, the climbing day pass is paid for separately. Refugio Caney is cool and we loved climbing the ladder to get to the tent and seeing all the trees in the morning when we woke up. The owners are super nice and we enjoyed chatting with them!

It was so nice to have Luis welcoming me and showing me around when I arrived. The view is amazing, it is an authentic Puerto Rican experience, complete with the neighbor singing along to his stereo system into the night. The terracing was done with clay so it does not absorb the moisture, so the spot was rather swampy. It seems installing a wooden platform could correct for that.

Ive been camping 4 times in PR, at all different sites and this site by far was the best. It had plenty of tables and chairs, a huge covered area, running water and hot showers as well as both a charcoal and gas grill. We had a group of 16 and there was space for 2x that number of people. The view was amazing and the river below was a great activity for the kids (ages 2-4 in our group) although the hike up from the river (~20 minutes) was a bit of a workout. I give it a 5 star review and will be back.

Awesome awesome spot. One of the best camping places I’ve been ever been to. Grill, views, private waterfall, and the owner is super friendly. Nice bathrooms and showered too.
