Hacienda Monte Rey near El Yunque

The property has been in the Monge family since the 1940's bought by Jose Monge Marquez. The campsite is located in a private property in the outskirts of El Yunque Rainforest in the town of Luquillo. The campsite areas and facilities are about 8 out of 43 acres of all the private property of rainforest, flowers, palm trees, and various fruit trees. The Sabana River, one of many that originate from El Yunque National Rainforest, the river goes through the property. All the campsites are close by the river with each having their own access and individual fire pits. The local attractions are: -El Yunque National Rainforest 15 minute drive up the mountain. -Las Paylas rockslides (2 minute drive & 8 minutes walking). -The Luquillo beaches which are La Pared, Playa Azul, Barneario de Luquillo. Los Kioskos de Luquillo, ect. (10 minutes drive). We look forward to hosting you!

When you book this place it will be totally reserved for you. The property is still recovering as all our forests are, after massive hurricane in 2017. You will see many trees growing back again. Most of them are native and protected.

Preferable to arrive at property before sun down. Definitely good area to do bonfires or use the firepit. Back in the day, The Boys Scouts of America, used to come here to camp. I myself was a boy scout😁 so I think is a good place to come, camp in a quite surrounded area with many trees doing a natural fence. I got fruit trees planted that are ready to go as soon as the fruit is ready to grab. There's more to mention but I'll get better with this profile thing ☺️

At that time as certified HG instructors we thought ok lets try..came down here with our backpacks, a few hang gliders, and figured we would see how it worked out. Renting places to stay for a few years and including rooms for visiting students we had this opportunity to get and fix up this old house. It was a continuation of my dream to have a back pack travelers , adventure travelers, artists, LBGTQ friendly, off the beaten path type of place to stay. And so in 2004 Barefoot Travelers Rooms and Adventures Guesthouse was born.
