The property has been in the Monge family since the late 1940's bought by Jose Monge Marquez. The campsite is located in a private property in the outskirts of El Yunque Rainforest in the town of Luquillo. The campsite areas and facilities are about 8 out of 43 acres of all the private property of rainforest, flowers, palm trees, and various fruit trees.
The Sabana River, one of many that originate from El Yunque National Rainforest, the river goes through the property. All the campsites are close by the river with each having their own access and individual fire pits.
The local attractions are:
-El Yunque National Rainforest 15 minute drive up the mountain.
-Las Paylas rockslides (2 minute drive & 8 minutes walking).
-The Luquillo beaches which are La Pared, Playa Azul, Barneario de Luquillo. Los Kioskos de Luquillo, ect. (10 minutes drive).

What an awe-inspiring, beautiful and grounding experience in Utuado. Our stay at TJ Ranch was more than we hoped for and exceeded our expectations. Tina's warmth, hospitality and farm-to-table meals left us feeling taken care of in a way that moved us to extend our stay an additional night. The cabins were clean and well-kept. The land was a unique perspective of the mountains and the stargazing was phenomenal.
Our kids enjoyed the pool and especially the animals. Tina and her family took the time to show them their daily farm routine and maintenance.
Be prepared for a windy, uphill drive to get there, but it's totally worth it!
We would recommend this gem to anyone looking for a unique, off-the-beaten path place to unwind in Puerto Rico! We certainly look forward to returning in the future!

Alexa and Naldo have created such a magical experience, staying here was the highlight of our trip to Puerto Rico! We stayed in the cob house, which is a work of art and an inspiration in sustainability. Loved how everything was completely off grid, but never felt like it lacked any common necessities. The composting toilet with the live-in chicken was constant entertainment for my 6 year old daughter. The "hike" down to the serene river swimming hole is not to be missed. Definitely recommend sampling the chocolate as well. We really hope to make it back here someday!

This was such a unique and fun experience! Definitely make sure suitcases and things are put away before you sleep- it poured on us a lot of the night! Luckily, the tent stayed completely waterproof and the sound of the rain was really cool.

Amazing place to camp near El Yunque!
Very quiet and peaceful next to a beautiful stream that led all the way to a water hole we could swim in. Host was super helpful and informative, bathrooms were super clean. Would definitely stay here again!

Weekend Trip to Hacienda Monte Rey near El Yunque
A hidden gem.
Sleeping in the Tree Tent was an experience compared to none other.
Before opening my eyes in the morning I had a sense of being a young green sprout surrounded by the hard outer seed. The welcome morning rain nourishing and softening that seed pod. Eventually emerging to see a lush rainforest all around, a beautiful tucked away river, birds and butterflies of many species flying about.
I’m not sure their are many places on Earth like this left to discover.

This was a beautiful stay!! The tree tent was comfortable for me and the site had everything I needed. Gerardo gave me all the information I needed before the stay and was helpful while I was there. It was so peaceful to hear the sounds of the rivers and jungle. I would love to stay again and have already told my friends about this place!

I had a perfect trip. Camp grounds were clean and quiet. Perfect place to start and end the day when taking local trips and just as good a place to spend a day on the grounds to recharge. Turtles, snails, birds, lizards, flowers and a beautiful river. Sleeping to the sounds of the forest was an unexpected bonus. Might be my new wake up alarm.

We stayed here for six nights and it was everything we could have asked for! The deck is open so you get to fully enjoy being in the rainforest, while the cozy bed and simple utilities ensure that all your creature comforts are taken care of. We really enjoyed spending time with Naldo an getting to chat with some of the other guests, while also appreciating how private and secluded our space was.
Alexa and Naldo have created such a relaxing and welcoming place that we would certainly stay at next time we make our way to Puerto Rico, and highly recommend for anyone who is looking to get away from their daily grind.
