The property has been in the Monge family since the late 1940's bought by Jose Monge Marquez. The campsite is located in a private property in the outskirts of El Yunque Rainforest in the town of Luquillo. The campsite areas and facilities are about 8 out of 43 acres of all the private property of rainforest, flowers, palm trees, and various fruit trees. The Sabana River, one of many that originate from El Yunque National Rainforest, the river goes through the property. All the campsites are close by the river with each having their own access and individual fire pits. The local attractions are: -El Yunque National Rainforest 15 minute drive up the mountain. -Las Paylas rockslides (2 minute drive & 8 minutes walking). -The Luquillo beaches which are La Pared, Playa Azul, Barneario de Luquillo. My neighbor has a flock of Peacocks that are usually out to be seen (it's a hike to see them, but we can take you there if you'd like). Coqui's singing romantic songs all through the night. Crabs in the creek for the kids to catch. It's a jungle. We have a lot of fruit trees on the property. If you see anything ready for the taking let us know and you can partake in the experience of harvesting and eating it. Bananas, avocados, soursop, guava, fig, calabaza, coffee, name, coconuts, pana pen, and more. Clean filtered mountain water is available for purchase. As well we keep a regular supply of Caribbean snacks available. Sweet and savory available for purchase. Exciting.

They went out of their way to make sure we had a safe place to park our 22ft camper van, even letting us in after regular hours, after all our other overnight camping options had fallen through. Great communication and a nice spot in the jungle next to running water and plenty of coquis to sing us to sleep. Will definitely consider coming back for more than just an overnight stay next time!

Excellent stay. Luis was very polite and discreet. I had no problem with the camping area. Not far from the town, but high enough to have beautiful views and beautiful sunsets. Will be coming back! // Excelente estadía. Luis fue muy cordial y discreto. No tuve ningún problema con el área. No está lejos de lo urbano y es lo suficiente alto en la montaña para encontrar vistas y atardeceres bellos. De seguro regrese!

Very peaceful place. I personally enjoy nature and the lake is stunning. Next time I can't forget my fishing gear! You see big fishes close to shore. At night they have solar lights that helps a lot. The running water is only in the bathrooms which are very well kept. A place to get ice and supplies is a 2 min drive. Highly recommend!

Its easy to drive to the property. Near by there is a gas station you can purchase ice and other supplies. They also have a food truck near the gas station. There is a very peaceful and serene atmosphere. Bathrooms are clean. There is running water in the main gazebo that you can wash dishes. I love the place. Is my second time here and I plan to come again.

Awesome secluded location! Yet you're not to far from good food and tons of adventure nearby. Robert and his wife were super nice and accommodating. If your schedule allows it opt for the breakfast on the balcony! During our stay we did stuff all over the island this place is fairly centrally located. Which was perfect for our trip.

We drove a camper van to the location & the host was very accommodating to what we needed for the van. Its a very steep drive so caution when getting there. But sleeping in the forest with the coqui’s and water right next to us was so magical to wake up to!

Weekend Trip to Hacienda Monte Rey near El Yunque

This was our second time camping at Hacienda Monterrey in Luquillo, Puerto Rico, and it’s quickly become one of our favorite places. It’s easy to get to from the main road, but once you’re there, it feels like a peaceful escape into nature. One of the things that makes this place stand out is the host, Gerardo. He’s incredibly kind and attentive — both times we’ve stayed, he personally came by to make sure everything was in order and that we were comfortable. That kind of hospitality really goes a long way and makes the experience even more special. The campground is simple and clean, with no electricity, which actually adds to the relaxing, unplugged vibe. It does have clean restrooms and hot showers, which we really appreciated. Toilet paper is provided (a small detail, but super helpful!), and parking is available and conveniently close. My 9-year-old son told me this is his favorite place in the world right now, and he’s already asking to go back. As a parent, there’s no better review than that. We’ll definitely be returning. If you’re looking for a quiet, family-friendly spot to connect with nature, Hacienda Monterrey is a hidden gem worth discovering.

It was a great experience. The river was beautiful and we explored a lot! Got connected with nature! Good place too relax and have a good time. We brought our own stuff like shower, water, solar lights and a bathroom so we didn’t used the facilities but I will definitely recommend if you want to camp outside bring all your stuff. and If you brought your tent definitely bring a mat or a comforter so u can sleep comfortably in the ground.
